Grimes

As you can see in the tweet above, Grimes got all of her gear stolen at the Manchester show on her European tour last night (8/30). This is unfortunate news for Grimes, who has otherwise been having a pretty great year and is on an extensive world tour right now. Her tour is scheduled to continue at Dublin's Electric Picnic this weekend, and eventually hit NYC for four sold out shows in October. It hasn't been announced if she'll need to cancel any dates because of the theft.

Best of luck to Grimes in recovering her equipment. A list of all remaining dates on her tour is below.

Musicians need to take better care of their gear. It sucks that they lose all their shit, but they left it alone. This can happen to anyone, even big bands like The Stooges, who lost their whole truck, with really rare and valuable stuff. Good luck getting your stuff back

that sucks, plus holy shit thats a lot of shows!

So what you're saying is she lost her laptop......Matt Pike's stolen guitar is more important.

"Musicians need to take better care of their gear."

Damn effing straight there Bubba. If I need a computer for work, I make sure that thing doesn't get coffee spilled on it, it has proper ventilation, and I sure as hell don't leave it unattended outside of my sight at any time.

If these people can't afford roadies or some neighborhood kid to watch the stiff, then put the effing bong down, decline the invite to Puffy's club joint that night and WATCH YOUR GEAR!

I mean, this really isn't brain science here people.

Her "gear" could probably fit in a duffle bag. Seriously, how much room does a mic, vocal efx machine and cheap hair dye actually take up?

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2012 10:55 AM

@1055 part 2 >> she uses three key boards, 4+ synthesizers and at least 10 peddles. and a microphone.

@1055 part 1 >> its because they're all on (really good) drugs

There is a lord and he is merciful.

This seems to happen like every other week, what exactly are musicians doing with their stuff? I'm assuming they just leave it in their van or whatever - Where do they stay when they're on tour, why don't they bring the stuff inside? Although I remember one band said they specifically stayed at a hotel with a locked parking lot and their stuff still got stolen.

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2012 1:37 PM

I never get my stuff stolen. I stay in my bedroom, mostly. In my parents' house. What's wrong with all these people, like, getting their stuff stolen all the time? I mean, really? Get a life already.

its a nonchalant/non pacnicky tweet because she can afford to buy new shit today this minute etc

@12:27 We can only hope.

a roadie is a touring musician's best friend. they can watch the equipment and they work for low wages. the stars of the show can go promote their latest tour and album while the roadie keeps their equipment safe from thieves.

Posted by musician's friend | September 1, 2012 12:23 AM

I think I saw the lowlifes who did it. one guy had dreadlocks, two others were wearing doo-rags and another guy looked liked he wasn't wearing any pants, just boxers.

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2012 9:35 AM

Unfortunately, the possibility of gear being stolen is a constant concern for low(ish) budget touring acts. That's why you never see actual working bands (read: they don't have buses and large staff on payroll) with that overprice "boutique" gear. That stuff's for made exclusively for dentists, lawyers, and members of Wilco.

But again, and I don't want to sound like a cynic here, but the party who stole Grimes' equipment should get some kind of reward. Can you make Caveman, Chairlift, Kreayshawn, and the Killers next on your hit list?

Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2012 7:27 PM

Whoa, someone stole JJ Fad's gear . Like, OMG

Posted by Supersonic | September 1, 2012 7:43 PM

you guys are all idiots.

Posted by Anonymous | September 2, 2012 2:19 PM

11:06 - peddles, yo.

Posted by Anonymous | September 4, 2012 12:37 PM

@11:06 - she does not use nearly that much gear. I've seen videos and pitchfork listed the gear. 1 keyboard, a sampler, mic, mixer, and 1 pedal. sucks but its not thaaaat devastating, especially because it's not vintage or hard to find gear. sucks but Probably just over 1 grand worth of shit. hard part might be recovering certain things on memory cards?
