Grimes at River Rocks 8/09/2012
Grimes

The weather forecast was gloomy, with thunderstorms predicted for 8 PM but the winds were with the 5000+ folk who showed up to Pier 84 for the final 2012 River Rocks show with Grimes, Wild Nothing and DIIV, the final Hudson Park River Rocks show of 2012. While the rain stayed away, the air was thick with humidity which just added to the sweaty nature of the show.

Grimes has certainly come a long way in the last two years and though she still has a nervous, conversational rapport on stage, she has become a confident performer. Flanked by two dancers and armed with bubble machines, Claire Boucher had the masses dancing (and shrieking) for a good hour. She came back for an encore, playing a brand new, "not finished" track that the audience ate up like it was "Oblivion." They really did not want her to stop or leave the stage.

Grimes will be back in October for four sold out shows at Bowery Ballroom and Music Hall of Williamsburg. All Grimes dates are listed below.

The other acts of the night were of the indie rock (Captured Tracks division) variety, with Wild Nothing and DIIV. Wild Nothing played much of their new album, Nocturne, and had it for sale at the merch table, two weeks early. Setlist is in a picture below. They sounded terrific and have also come a long way and move around much more on stage.

Nobody moves more than DIIV, though. The indefatigable band never stop and put on another good set last night. This was the first date of their and Wild Nothing's tour together and all upcoming dates are listed at the bottom of this post.

Pictures, videos and setlists from last night, plus listed tour dates, are below.

how was the line to get in?

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 2:46 PM

So much Grimes love on this blog.

Posted by BRBpizza | August 10, 2012 2:47 PM

Two dancers and a bubble machine? That's so 1987 Boys & Girls club.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 2:47 PM

Line was surprisingly easy to get in, it was the beer/food line that was absurd .

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 2:51 PM

wild nothing were so good last night. stoked on their live sound. place was filled with bottomfeeding grimes fans though

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 2:52 PM

DIIV + Grimes

two reasons to truly loathe this generation

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 2:53 PM

Oh 2:52
don't count yourself out of the mix of bottomfeeders. Last night, both Wild Nothings and Grimes had their share of douche losers. One thing is for sure, when you go to a show and there are a bunch of kids waving and throwing around glow sticks, you know that scene and those bands are uncool.
The other thing you can be sure of, young girls these days love to fuck to Grimes.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 3:00 PM

Delusional kids who don't know their shit from shinola.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 3:03 PM

scary girl with grimes exact hair cut giving the stalker gaze.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 3:05 PM

show was so awesome. get real yall. if you didnt have fun at this you are incapable of having it. beer line was insane tho.

If this was written without irony then god help all mankind.

great show, but the pole dancers were lame. When they came out there was a lot of laughing...Grimes needs a kick ass light show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 3:33 PM

raise your hand if you were among those assaulted (sexually or otherwise) by this psycho-bitch last night: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/img/music/grimes/pier84/34.jpg

Posted by Amoneymouse | August 10, 2012 3:46 PM

The last song was "Nightmusic" not an "un-finished" track, Mr. Pearis. Get your facts right.

"raise your hand if you were among those assaulted (sexually or otherwise) by this psycho-bitch last night: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/img/music/grimes/pier84/34.jpg"

I was assaulted by the stupid pole dancer. Hit me in the face because I refused to clap along to her crap out of place dancing. Grimes was awesome though.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 3:57 PM

Someone gave me a handjob behind the porta-potties but I didn't bother to look and see who it was...

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 3:59 PM

FUCK YOU GRIMES.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 4:01 PM

Gojira pics from last night? Awesome show.

Good job coming to a Grimes show dressed like Grimes. Nice life. How some people don't feel completely foolish existing is beyond me.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 4:05 PM

1 out of every 3 people at this show was dressed like a complete asshole. I didn't stay for Grimes, but Wild Nothing were great. The new songs translate well live.

How does DIIV's bassist wear pants that tight?

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 4:29 PM

how does the guitarist/moaner wear pants that baggy and also filthy

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 4:46 PM

Wild Nothing should open for DIIV next time.

5000 people showed up for Grimes, but only about 400 showed up for Braid. Sad state of affairs.

not.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2012 8:30 PM

that Grimes lookalike chick with the creepy eyes is her manager you goofs. you can't say she isn't hotter than Grimes herself.

Posted by Serpent | August 10, 2012 9:09 PM

I saw !!! instead. Great show. I agree with the poster who said young women like Grimes. That's the kind of crap they'll play in the morning before you leave their place.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2012 10:48 AM

There were no black people at the show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2012 1:00 PM

^Then clearly you are either blind or weren't there.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2012 1:54 PM

Wild Nothing FTW!

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2012 12:56 AM

Grimes needs to lose that dreadful haircut. And stop hanging with Skrillex.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2012 10:22 AM

A good insight and ideas.. I will use it in my article. You’ve obviously spent a lot of time on this. Congratulations!

Posted by miniclip | August 28, 2012 12:53 PM

I remember hearing Grimes and thinking this is such unqiue techno music. Nice to see artists reaching new creative heights.

Posted by ontario honey | November 12, 2012 10:34 AM
