Habibi at Fullton Stall Market 8/05/2012
Habibi

Brooklyn's Habibi kicked off the 2012 Sound Bites Series down at Fullton Stall Markets on Sunday afternoon (8/5). This is the third year I've booked this little concert series and the third stage location we've done it. The stage is now set up on Beekman street sidewalk just off South St which is probably the best place we've had it, as it didn't conflict with the folks trying to get to the different farm stands but was still basically right there with the market. (It also will allow bands to play a little longer/louder than last year.) Habibi, who are currently putting the finishing touches on their debut LP, sounded great if I do say so, despite some humidity-induced fret problems that guitarist Caroline worked around with good humor.

Habibi will open for Chain & the Gang and Calvin Johnson at 285 Kent on Thursday (8/9) and next month will be on a tour with Vetiver which includes a show at Glasslands on September 21.

The Sound Bites Series happens every Sunday afternoon in August. This Sunday (8/12) is Eternal Summers.

wow, i was kinda thinking the same thing. suppose i should listen to them first before drawing a conclusion based on their images / gear choices. the wicker amp grille is cool, but black hardware on drums is a little gauche.

Posted by the_jim | August 6, 2012 10:22 AM

Based on this picture, there music sucks...but they make up for that in cute/sexy. ALWAYS WORKS. Idiots

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 10:29 AM

I can't take much more of this kind of thing.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 10:49 AM

space looks tiny. can't wait for eternal summers.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 10:51 AM

I haven't heard a note but this band sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 1:17 PM

Black hardware is gauche? Do you know what gauche means?

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 1:37 PM

All of my left handed screwdrivers are black. What's that to you?

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 1:55 PM

Please, for the love god, will someone stop Brooklyn?

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 2:44 PM

I want to make sexfuck inside all of them.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 3:20 PM

I saw them open for King Tuff a couple months back. A couple of songs were interesting, but they were just awful at their instruments. Sorry, good try.

Oh hey, a bunch of "scathing" "critiques." You guys really have a lot to say! I'm impressed! What are you taking, Creative Writing 101 at the New School? Rolling Stone magazine should call you up, I bet they'd love to get a review. Fuuuuuuuuuuck off dick suckers.

Posted by Scott Paul | August 6, 2012 5:57 PM

What a bunch of thoughtless bullshit. Never have I wanted so badly to reach through cyberspace and choke the living shit out of such ignorant, petty scum as yourselves. "never heard a note but this band sucks??!?!?!?!?" really? Why would anyone want to sound like such an ignorant fuck head on purpose? Oh, because it's anonymous. What a sad thread. Habibi rocks the shit and looks good as hell doing it! So keep your bullshit comments to yourselves, you bottom-feeding pussies!

These pictures are awful! These girls are such dolls in person. Terrible photographer. Why aren't we criticizing the real talentless person here

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 8:46 PM

Nice job objectifying women anonymous assholes.

Posted by Colin P Fitz | August 6, 2012 9:13 PM

Colin P. Fitz, they're not gonna fuck you.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 9:55 PM

Habibi are a lot of fun live! Promising group, great energy! They seem like a bunch of cool, upstanding people!

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2012 11:00 PM

All these haters.....it's kinda sad

Posted by Lou Valentine | August 7, 2012 12:17 AM

If they want to sound like The Shaggs, they got it. Otherwise, its just a horrible, off-beat (not in a good way), talentless music by a band composed of semi-hot chicks. Put dudes in there, and that band wouldn't be allowed to play on their parents basements.

For the record, ive seen this band play quite a few times (not by choice if i may add)

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:31 AM

i enjoyed this band when i saw them, and having played with heavy cream for a few years i can also say that the misogynistic comments made on BV or anywhere won't stop this band from continuing to do what they do.
if it makes you feel better to belittle them through your anonymous commenting, than by all means.. but the bands just feel bad for you. what you're attempting to do is ricocheting- just getting people to talk about them more. no such thing as bad press. heavy cream is still out there doing their thing, and better than ever. i wouldnt be surprised to see habibi follow a similar trend.

Posted by danny | August 7, 2012 12:53 AM

saw habibi at sxsw, they were my personal favorite!

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:11 AM

would cover the red one in jizz, just like kbk. think she gags on it? and how big do you think those tits are? Either way, take off your clothes or go away, cuz no one cares about your music.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 2:00 AM

Nothing special.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 4:24 AM

Did they all learn to "play" this year? SOunds like it....

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 6:08 AM

I bet they know a thing or two about "secret hummus recipe"

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 8:23 AM

Persian girls give me such hard wood

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 9:01 AM

@2:00am would travel back in time to convince your mother to abort you after showing her your lame-ass bv comment

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 10:28 AM

wow i'm glad all of these jealous, sexist losers never leave their apartments/parent house otherwise there'd be more attempted date rapes occuring

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 10:30 AM

would cover you in my period blood and drop you in shark infested waters.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 10:33 AM

Just listened to a few tracks on soundcloud. This is like a C-list version of Vivian Girls, which is itself a D-list version of Tiger Trap.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:00 PM

I just want the singer in her knee high socks.nothing else

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:14 PM

people, People, PEOPLE! Reality Check -- people want to be entertained, not have to filter their experience through some labyrinth of other bands and their over/under of skill and presentation. MEANING (for you dumb fucks) it matters not whether it sounds pedestrian, it is meant to just be fun. Which it is. So, you al need to chill out, or go yell in the forrest if you need to vent about stupid shit.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:17 PM

no opinions on the music, but getting their friends to step up, give names, and defend the band is pretty lame, guys.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:32 PM

damn so much negativity and ignorance. as if this band OR ANY BAND thats ever been subject to the bs of bk vegan comment boards, would need their friends to defend them. who gives a fuck what some ignorant, sexist, jealous dumb assholes have to say. i hope they havent read this awful shit. and kudos to the fans/friends who showed their appreciation, bc honestly its nice to be nice. and its healthy to be positive and not dark and bitter and jealous and hateful like some of you clowns on here are. ive never listened to the band but if they are touring with tuff and playing with chain and the gang and calvin johnson as mentioned above, i bet they are doing something right.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:44 PM

LOL

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 3:37 PM

fuck that, this is a comment board to express one's opinion. Why cant i say they are a horrible band? same way ill express my love for those who deserve it, i will say whatever i feel like for shitty bands like this.

Also, what would be the difference if i identify myself as "Danny" from BK? Would that make me less anonymous? Or you also want me to post my address, phone # and Social Security on a public forum? Bitch Please!

This band sucks! Get over it...

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 4:58 PM

When do these cheesy girl group wannabes go away? This band sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | August 8, 2012 7:14 AM

butt sore jealous haters. habibi are fuckin rad!

Posted by Anonymous | August 8, 2012 10:33 AM

Chicks with guitars. What's not to like?

Posted by Anonymous | August 8, 2012 10:49 AM

Horrible!

Posted by Anonymous | August 8, 2012 2:18 PM

"Chicks with guitars. What's not to like?"

The music...if they just posed naked with the guitars they would be rad, but they are a band and we are judging them as such.

Posted by Anonymous | August 8, 2012 3:38 PM

Frumpies cover band

Posted by pfft | August 16, 2012 6:19 PM

They have a less is more, tough edged, no bullshit approach to their songs, which I admire and find really FUN. Something very conceptually interesting about their music. It's like the Shangri-La's smoked a hookah laced with PCP while on a mid 90s time machine voyage and robbed a guitar shop. Tough, demure, WEIRDness! These women are so naturally beautiful that it is a bit intimidating... that's why some of the BV message mongerers hate hard, they can't handle it! For anyone to have such a strong opinion in either direction means Habibi is getting it RIGHT ON!

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 2:52 PM

Are Girls At Dawn going to put out another record, or what?

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 6:29 PM

I do my best to not be a sexist objectificator, but: what I know of this band musically is that they can't play very well; and I also know that just looking at pictures of the lead singer at my kitchen table makes me need to pull on my boner. I would lie to her about how good her band is through the entirety of our faithful marriage.

Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 6:25 PM

great singers. The girls I mean.

Posted by jordon | July 25, 2013 1:02 PM

I think the photos are really cool. They capture the atmosphere very well and really give you the whole vibe of the event.
