Madge Merch

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Many Madonna fans are wondering if the "Material Girl" owns a watch after she took the stage late in Philadelphia Tuesday evening.

Some concert-goers were so frustrated that they left the Wells Fargo Center before the show even began.

The concert was scheduled to start at 8 p.m., but Madonna did not take the stage until about 10:30 p.m. Making matters worse for fans was the fact that the opening act was simply a DJ spinning some tunes.

Madonna fan Jen Gililand told Eyewitness News she paid good money to bring her 10-year-old to the show, but she had to leave before it started because of Madonna's tardiness.

"It's 10:15 ... it's time to go," Gililand said...

...When Madonna finally did take the stage, she apparently apologized to the crowd. However, in typical Philadelphia fashion, Madonna was booed, not once, but twice. - [CBS Local]

Madge should know better than to start so late on a school night. (Even though school starts next week.) Let's hope she starts on time at her two Yankee Stadium shows next week.

That's pretty cool that lady gaga's grandma still tours. Did AARP sponsor this trek?

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 1:42 PM

Is her tour manager Axl Rose?

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 1:46 PM

how completely unprofessional.

When she apologized, did she give a reason?

Such lateness is excusable at a club show but not at an aren show.

I hope she had to pay the unions much bucks in overtime.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 1:46 PM

Madonna is trying to be Axl Rose.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 1:47 PM

Why would you pay 'good money' and then leave?

Is there anything so important going on at hoe on a Tuesday night that you had to leave and miss the show you came to see?

If you waited until 10:15, why not wait a little longer and at least see the show?

You are going to be pissed in any case, but at least stay and see the show.

That being said, Madonna is a jerkoff for doing this.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 1:49 PM

How is lateness excusable at a club show?

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 1:50 PM

How dare they boo Madonna. They're lucky to be in the same vicinity as Madonna. If I didn't have a restraining order against me that was put out by her people, I would be in that vicinity.

I was at the show. when Madonna hit the stage, people went CRAZY!

F must stand for fag

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:04 PM

@149 from what i gathered, the woman had brought her 10-year-old daughter to see the show, and a show starting past 10:15pm would extend far past her bedtime.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:05 PM

Anonymous, you can't even reveal a real name? What's the problem? There were 20,000 people at the show and the crowd LOVED it. That is all I am trying to say.

Posted by John F | August 29, 2012 2:07 PM

I was at the show as well. One of the most fantastic shows I have ever seen. Too bad there was no AC...I felt like I was going to faint. Oh, and there were no boos once Madonna hit the stage.

Posted by Ali 2Tday | August 29, 2012 2:11 PM

Can we please touch on how lame it is that this tour is called MDNA, an obvious play on MDMA? So which is it Madge, are you an ultra-religious follower of ancient Judaism or just really into the club drug scene??? Uggh, such a weak attempt to tap into the youth market at a show probably outweighed by soccer moms.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:11 PM

Axl Rose >>>>> Madonna >>>>>>>>>>> LaurEn Hill

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:11 PM

@ Ali 2Tday - the AC temp was fine, just were just vibing too hard.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:13 PM

How is this news?

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:28 PM

2:05, and there is the problem to start with. Bringing a ten year old to something like this is risky business. This isn't the circus or the Sesame Street Live on Ice matinee.

This is an evening performance for adults. If you bring your ten year old, you can't complain that it's getting too late for her bedtime.

A Madonna concert is not meant for a ten year old.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:31 PM

yeah what's with this crap nowadays where parents being their children to all sorts of non age appropriate events and then complain when the events don't turn out to be 'kid-friendly'?

LEAVE YOUR TEN YEAR OLD HOME. STOP COMPLAINING!

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:33 PM

2 1/2 hours.

Thats 2 1/2 hours to stand and ponder why the hell you're at a Madonna concert in 2012.

Self-realization ==> self-hatred ==> hatred ==> bitching at Madonna ==> go home and listen to the Immaculate Collection with your grumpy face on.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:33 PM

Her showing up late was most probably intentional. She is trying to be edgy and relevant and it fits in with her desperate attempt to be seen as 'unpredictable and dangerous'.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:35 PM

madonna is SO over - that is, if she was ever.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:36 PM

and I'm sure everyone in listening distance had to listen and endure the ire of the parent of the ten year old all the way home and the next day and so on.

Oh the injustice!

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:36 PM

what kind of parent takes a kid to concert and then leaves?

nice. Do you take her to a toy store and then drag her out because the salesperson is taking too long?

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:37 PM

1:49 - it said she had a kid with her - prob'ly babysitter & school issues.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:41 PM

2:28 did you know about this before this story? If you answered no..then it is news!

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 2:41 PM

was Madonna supposed to start at 8, or did the SHOW start at 8?

If the show started at 8 and there was an opening DJ, then that's standard 30-45 minutes right there followed by a standard 20-30 minutes break between acts. There's an hour plus right there that should be expected. If this is the case, then she was really only about an hour late, not two and a half hours late.

Madonna looks like some old aging stripper with new age tendencies.
She did not age well.

Trendies love to argue about Madonna
Yeah, you're all really not fabulous though

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 3:06 PM

dunno if its trendies arguing about madonna, or a new generation with their eyes wide open who are calling it as they see it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 3:10 PM

I don't see anyone arguing - just a lot of disdain/dislike plus 2 paid shills.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 3:14 PM

Just imagine what would happen if she would pull this shit in the Bronx!

THE IPODS—DIVERSITY FROM TRACK TO TRACK

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 3:22 PM

Although Madonna really should give up on life nowadays, I have to agree with her in regards to playing in Philly. I always second guess myself every time I enter the city proper - the smell of despair reeks! I, like Madonna, turn around and vow never to return to the armpit of America!

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 3:23 PM

Trendies don't like to be called trendies.

Welcome to Generation cupcake. Now, where is my trophy?

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 3:25 PM

3:23 = wimp

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 3:30 PM

if she got on stage at 10:30 it only makes her about an hour late
she has always done the same, people showing surprise at this have probably never attended one of her shows, or any show for this matter
ask Axl

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 3:41 PM

She was at the Mets-Phils game; Keith Hernandez was talking about the Madonna concert and how he hoped it didn't let out at the same time the game ended because the traffic would be HORRENDOUS! Guess he didn't have to worry after all.

Ron and Gary playfully accused Keith of wanting to attend the Madonna concert, but he did not, though he did admit that he attended a Madonna concert once in his life.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 3:52 PM

Who cares

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 4:19 PM

Does anyone expect a headliner for a concert starting at 8:00pm to go on earlier than 10:30? Have these people ever been to a fucking concert before?

If you're confused by this, then music's not for you. Stick to reality TV, motherfucker.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 4:56 PM

I'm going to Dylan Tuesday in Prot Chester. I expect him to come out at 8:00 sharp and play straight through to 10:40 or so.

The difference is that Dylan is a professional, and Madonna is acting like a first year amateur.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2012 5:15 PM

Didn't Dylan just right a song about Fat Neil's whistle? That makes him untouchable for at least a year.

wahh wahh wahh.
as if any of you ever had to sing and dance and lead a world class production. here's one way for you imbeciles to relate:
imagine your show is about to start and something you ate doesnt' agree with you
what are you going to do, puke on stage in front of everyone in the middle of your song?
come to think of it, you probably would pay to see that

Posted by shutup you peasant | August 30, 2012 7:08 AM

But she lip syncs so well

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2012 8:02 AM

Who is older Madonna or Leslie Uggams?

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2012 8:21 AM

7:08AM, yeah mon, get out there, play, and run off stage if necessary, like Isaac did one time modest mouse played (United Palace maybe?) he just ran off stage and the band just jammed until he came back. If the crowd saw her run off they would realize it was something important.

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2012 9:25 AM

Who is older, Madonna or Queen Elizabeth II?

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2012 9:46 AM

Took a look at the setlist. A few questions

1) Does she really have that big of an ego to not play a greatest hits set? That's all people want to hear.

2) She seriously has a song called "Gang Bang"? Really? A 50+ woman has a song...called..."Gang Bang"...ugh.

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2012 10:33 AM

What is older?
Modonna or the ancient Mesopotamian God of Hummus?

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2012 11:11 AM

10:33, haha, but yeah, bring your 10 yr old kid to the Madonna show

Posted by Anonymous | August 30, 2012 11:59 AM

too bad her yankee stadium show is not on 9/4 coz then the "C U Next Tuesday" acronym would apply to this old hag

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2012 9:40 PM

Madonna's concert in Vancouver is one of the most anticipated events in Canada as well. But I'm afraid she can easily lose a lot of her fans if she continues to behave the same way as she did in Philadelphia. A fundamental change of her approach in this regard would definitely be a good idea.

Posted by jeremy | September 5, 2012 10:59 AM

My sister in Boston had the same experience at her concert last night! Madonna came on at 10:30 and the crowd had to listen to some DJ play for 2 1/2 hours beforehand. The only difference is that she didn't bother to apologize this time. It doesn't seem like she cares about her fans at all, she definitely doesn't respect them.

Posted by JLG | September 5, 2012 3:00 PM

Apparently she took the stage at 10:30 PM in D.C. too last night. So, what's the delay?

Posted by RC | September 24, 2012 4:41 PM

She was 2 1/2 hours late at the dc show too. I found out while waiting that she was exactly that late in Philly before the show I went to.

I love madonna and I loved the show, but it being that late on a Sunday night got so many people around me in a bad mood. I had to get a lady behind me kicked out cause she was drunk and was pissed for the show running late that she was screaming nasty comments to Madonna. And people in my row and in front of me were pissed and walked out early.

When I saw her in 2004 she was only an hour late. But 2.5 hours plus having a DJ that doesn't play the best music before hand makes for not the best experience. I hope the future concerts don't continue like this.

We have been fans for many years and saw our first Madonna concert in Houston last night. We were very disappointed. The DJ was on for an hour and was very boring. Madonna didn't appear until 10.45, although the tickets said the show started at 8, and then played for 2 hours - no time for an encore. It was way too late for us mere mortals who had been at work all day and also had to get up for work the next morning. The show and the choreography were stunning (although I could have done without the blood splattering all over the screen every time she 'shot' someone during the Gang Bang sequence). However, the drums/bass were so loud the seats were vibrating and we couldn't hear her singing at all. Even though we had paid a lot of money for our seats we seriously considered leaving partway through but stuck it out to the end in the hopes things would improve. They didn't!

Posted by Diane | October 26, 2012 8:53 PM

I know she showed up late but I don't think it's right to boo anyone for any reason. Sometimes things don't work out. It could of been totally not her fault that she started late. We need to show people respect.
