BrooklynVegan photo exhibit "480 Pixels" opened last night, Thursday (8/16) at 92YTribeca and we threw a party that went a little beyond your typical box wine opening, with Screaming Females, Hunters and Heliotropes playing. It was truly a memorable -- and seriously rocking -- evening.

This was my first time seeing Heliotropes and Hunters and really liked both. A confident rock band through and through, and with big riffs and close-style harmonies, Heliotropes dip a little into early '90s Seattle but they own it. I'm not sure how much of the crowd knew them before their set, but everyone I talked to was really impressed. Catch Heliotropes again at Rippers in Rockaway Beach on September 2 and when they headline Glasslands on October 2 with Cloud Eater, Grandfather and Fan-Tan.

Hunters, meanwhile, are a little more in punk and post-punk territory with platinum pink haired singer Isabel Almeida a natural frontperson, wailing into the mike while tangling it's cord around her and often writhing on the floor. You can't take your eyes off her. Her personality matched well with the band's in-your-face sonic assault, led by guitarist Derek Watson, that was short, sharp and danceable. And loud.

This all had the crowd primed for the evening's main attraction who did not disappoint. A veteran of BV events, Marissa Paternoster (who also has art displayed as part of our show) is a double barrel threat of serious guitar shredding and a set of pipes that validate the band's name. There was a bit of a pit going for Screaming Females which probably doesn't happen often at the venue, given the evening began with an announcement to please put our cellphones on vibrate. If we hadn't, Screaming Females' sonic attack was shaking them for us. Screaming Females' next NYC show is Riot Fest on September 8 at Williamsburg Park with the Descendents, Gogol Bordello, and more.

Big ups to BV's Chris La Putt who put the whole thing together. If you weren't able to go last night, '480 Pixels' will be up at 92YTribeca through September 6. As good as the pictures on display look here on the site, it's something else entirely to see them big in high resolution. Definitely stop by if you can. UPDATE: These are the summer hours:

Monday, 8/20: open 8am-3pm
8/21- 8/24; 9/4-9/5: 8am-8:30pm
8/27-8/31: 8am-3pm
9/3: Closed for Labor Day
Closed on Sats & Suns.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 6:36 PM

There was no hummus at the reception.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 6:48 PM

I'd make these females scream. Amirite? AMIRITE!?!

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 6:51 PM

In agony, maybe.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 7:00 PM

i heard a rumor that there was a Yaps photo wing full of Yaps prints but before the show even opened Yaps bought all the photos because the world only needs one Yaps.

Thanks for sharing the information, It's very informative and helpful.

Posted by serasa | August 17, 2012 7:10 PM

Excellent show,Marissa rocks.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 7:27 PM

it took a while for people to start moving around during screaming females but after 4 or 5 songs things started to pick up, a lot of fun

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 7:30 PM

For some reason I have a strange attraction to the lead singer of screaming females.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 7:52 PM

Is that girl from Hunters OK? It seems like she can't stand up for long periods of time.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 8:42 PM

heliotropes and screamales were fucking great -- crazy guitaring from both bands. really surprised how solid that whole show was.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 9:01 PM

7:52 needs shock therapy

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 9:04 PM

Why? I'd lick her slit too. We should try it together

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 9:09 PM

I think I have yellow fever now.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 9:20 PM

Loved the Frohawk portrait.
Disappointed there wasn't a big spread of hummus and pita.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 9:20 PM

Can't really get a sense of the crowd or how much fun it either was or wasn't.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2012 10:35 PM

Pink hair's got killer thighs.

Posted by Regular reader | August 17, 2012 11:52 PM

Am I the only one who thinks the lead guitarist from Screaming Females looks like a dude?

Posted by Sam | August 18, 2012 12:09 AM

Why is that screaming female deep-throating a microphone in the concert poster? Lesbos don't suck microphone.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 12:09 AM

You do not even know what deep throating is, if that's your description of that photo.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 1:50 AM

92y is anti-Palestine.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 6:47 AM

^how can you be anti something that does not exist? is it like being anti-Atlantis? anti-Santa Claus?

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 9:16 AM

^ that makes zero sense.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 11:25 AM

^Makes sense to me (note: I'm not 9:16)
Maybe you should read the news a little more often, 11:25. That way things will make more sense to you
Or not.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 12:44 PM

I understand what that person is trying to say but they are wrong. You can be anti-Santa Claus. If somebody tears down a bunch of Santa decorations they could be considered Anti-Santa Claus.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 12:53 PM

^ My point exactly. People are anti many ideologies and thoughts that don't have a physical presence. Sorry 12:44, the onus of ignorance lies with you.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 1:12 PM

oh, the things people will argue over on BV.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 1:19 PM

Well when you bring up the sensitive subject of whether or not God or Santa Claus exists, you are bound to get into arguments.

Politics, Sex, Religion, and Folklore are four subjects I tend to stay away from in social settings.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 3:17 PM

Palestine is not a country, dickless 6:49. Sorry that you are ignorant to reality, but you really should take some classes or something. You really are showing your ignorance profoundly.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 4:13 PM

So, can I be anti-Anonymous on BV? If so, which one? And when? And can there ever really be a way to prove it?

Palestine does not exist. It hasn't since the British nullified it prior to 1946. There is only Judea, Galilee and Samaria.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 4:17 PM

I am pro-Viking, and we claimed the world for our own purposes about 1000 years ago. So, you're all our bitches! Now, get to work!

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 4:19 PM

They didn't really claim anything. They just kinda paid lands a visit then went on their merry way. Vikings were like tourists in a way.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 4:53 PM

^ Oh goodness, please say that you are joking, because no one is that stupid. The Vikings raped and pillaged a wide swarth of lands including Iceland, Scotland, of course the entire present day Nordic region, Greenland, and were known to have landed in Canada prior to Columbus, etc. I'm sure that the residents that served as the "tourist bureau" for those "summer holidays" may have disagreed with your branding them as tourists. Puhleeze!

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 5:29 PM

Raiders, merchants, explorers. Outside of scandanavia, not really occupiers or "claimers".

Yeah. Tourists sound about right. Tourists that needed to get laid.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 5:47 PM

Glad to see all those online history courses at DeVry Institute helped all of you.

Fucking morons.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 6:37 PM

DeVry is a University not an Institute. They don't teach history there.

The joke was neither funny nor accurate.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 6:46 PM

LULZ @5:47 and all your other posts - arguing about ridiculous shit on a beautiful day. The joke is truly on you, shit-in. Maybe change out of the Cheetos stained underwear and go for a walk? SMH @ you

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 7:07 PM

"Outside of scandanavia, not really occupiers or "claimers"."

LOL! Apart from that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?

The Vikings occupied a bunch of lands. That's why many people around the world worship the god, Odin.

You can't walk most areas without seeing a temple in his honor.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 7:33 PM

Dude looks like a lady. And 7:07, get outside for a while. You are gonna suffocate on your own truffle methane.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2012 9:38 PM

^ha ha 9:38 on a Saturday night and your mind goes drip drip drip drip
you fail, loser

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2012 12:09 AM

Blah blah blah 92y still is anti-Palestine

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2012 1:21 AM

IPODS - DIVERSITY FROM TRACK TO TRACK

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2012 2:18 AM

Plus, the people living in the West bank and Gaza are still refered to as "Palestinians" even in the west, and generally still consider that land "Palestine."

You really just fail all around, 9:16.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2012 7:42 PM

massive lulz at everyone getting up in arms at an obviously lazy, yet surprisingly successful attempt at trolling ("92Y is anti-Palestine"). good grief.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2012 8:10 PM

^ that makes zero sense

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2012 12:39 AM

ALL OF THESE BANDS ARE ANTI-PALESTINE!

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2012 2:52 PM
