Xibalba's 'Hasta La Muerte' art by Dan Seagrave
Xibalba

If we were to go strictly by the books, I really really should hate Xibalba's Hasta La Muerte. The reality is far different though. The So-Cal crew specializes in simple hardcore that focuses on breakdowns and clearly takes influence from bands of that grew up in the shadow of Madball. Yet Xibalba's absolutely furious vocals and mammoth, down-tuned hardcore stylings set them apart from the pack, making this record unique from the legions of flat-billed, Nike-clad, camo-short-wearing crews out there. Stream all of Hasta La Muerte below.

Don't forget, you can catch the animal-stylings of Xibalba at Power of the Riff East, where they'll team up with Agnostic Front and Pentagram to tear down Warsaw on September 1st. Tickets are still available for their appearance as well as for the second day (tickets here) with sunn o))), Repulsion, Winter and so many others.

Stream all of Xibalba's new LP (available via Southern Lord), and catch them on tour at the dates below.

Sausage at the gates of a temple? Pretty poor timing.

is this a dungeons & dragons spinoff?

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 11:52 AM

I'm sure this bands fans aren't complete scumbags. Nope.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 11:54 AM

Completely inappropriate choice of cover art to post today .

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:06 PM

I love it! Total lack of self awareness and concern for others on the part of the sausages, as exp[ected. This is why the PMRC was set up, to apply the good sense of a donkey to this backward "community"

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:10 PM

same old sausages.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:19 PM

Good to see people still hiring Dan Seagrave to do their covers. He's the man and did all the awesome death metal covers of the 90s.

Also this band sounds like way more like Napalm Death than Madball to my ears. They need a new publicist if they're making you think this is meathead hardcore.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:24 PM

Too bad he isn't wearing a scarf.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:28 PM

hummus filled tofurkey sausage?

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:29 PM

Don't be so quick with the sausage quips. You hipsters would like this. It's on Southern Lord.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:33 PM

Hasta le Cerdo

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:35 PM

^um, we're pointing out that it probably isn't in good taste to post the cover of a hardcore record with a cover of an assassin at the gates of a temple. It's sort of fucking OBVIOUS.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:37 PM

Cabasa de cerdo, los sausages
Amirite?

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:39 PM

that is some sikh cover art

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:40 PM

12:33 I listened to it. Same old meathead sausage rock.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 12:43 PM

^ make no mistake, you love barbara streisand, but got the hots for liberace

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:00 PM

^nice homophobia. Haven't you learned anything from the tragedy in Milwaukee. It's called tolerance sausages.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:02 PM

Serious question - why is it that metal singers screaming into mics look like they are about to take a big black cock deep in some gay porn video?

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:09 PM

1:02: And you trendies aren't prejudiced at all, right?

1:09: As opposed to an indie rock singer going up to it, as if there about to pastily lick it?

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:12 PM

sausage, hummus, lol, sausage etc. yep, it's a brand new day here on the brooklyn house of morons...

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:13 PM

^ chief moron amirite

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:14 PM

1:12 - defection is useless, evasion is noted, admission is evident

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:16 PM

xibalba (mexico) > xibalba (wannabe tough guy crap)

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:20 PM

1:12, these turds only listen to pasty white frenchmen in darth vader helmets twisting knobs

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:20 PM

Can you all stop the lulzy shrimpfest for one day?

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:22 PM

Hey Fred, you're a fucking moron and have no business talking about hardcore. I'm glad you broke away from your "not allowed to like real hardcore bands" rule and at least have the sense to like Xibalba. You like them and they aren't a shitty hipster metal band made up of washed up ex hardcore kids, that's rare!

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:32 PM

lol @ still making "camo/flat brim" jokes about hardcore. You still telling Lewinsky jokes man?

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:43 PM

Xibalba rules, probably the only band out there today that could put out a split with Incendiary and actually carry their weight.

If you like heavy music and aren't afraid that someone might see this on your ipod while you "DJ" at The Levee, this album is for you.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 1:55 PM

Anyone who would be embarrassed by songs on their Ipod needs to get their priorities straight. The whole notion of bands being "guilty pleasures" is bullshit. If you like it, rock it. If you don't like it, who gives a shit.

On that note, The Levee has never had a DJ, Xibalba is good, and Sausage and Hummus are delicious.

Posted by Jesse | August 7, 2012 2:34 PM

I never thought of that, actually. I bet a nice spicy sausage dipped in hummus would be very tasty. Or just a bacon wrapped sausage, always a solid option.

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 2:53 PM

More food comments! I'm getting quite hungry!

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 3:03 PM

While I would be embarrassed to have their songs on my iPod, I would never be embarrassed to listen to the iPods. Unlike Xibalba, that band really has diversity from track to track!

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 3:17 PM

^lol

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 3:33 PM

Diversity does not necesarily = good

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 4:14 PM

this is actually quite good, i've been wanting to hear it for awhile so thanks for posting! why is everyone so hateful to each other on here btw?

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 4:41 PM

1:43 Hit too close to home, eh?

Posted by Anonymous | August 7, 2012 5:46 PM

You are all a bunch of faggots.

Bartley Ridge will be accessible via Bartley MRT station on the Circle Line. Commuting to Toa Payoh and Paya Lebar area as well as the city area is therefore very convenient. It is also near to many eateries along the Upper Serangoon area as well as NEX shopping mall.
