Toadies/Helmet/Ume at Webster Hall 8/02/2012
For a band of only three people, Ume had incredible power -- they blasted sound and strength out into the crowd at Webster Hall.Webster Hall celebrated the 1990s last night (8/2) with a pair of bands that cut their teeth in the era, and another that worships at the altar of some it's biggest names. Helmet and Toadies joined forces with Austin's Ume to play the East Village venue, part of the latter two's ongoing set of dates together and a short set of dates with Ume. Pictures and video from Webster Hall are below, including a video of "I Burn" during Toadies set that featured members of Helmet and Ume.
Frontwoman Lauren Larson's frenetic energy and distorted guitar meant lots of movement -- Ume is perfectly suited to playing on a huge stage with ample room to move about.
While some may prefer the raw energy of their live show, I prefer the nuances on their album. The standout tracks on album Phantoms are "Captive," "Destroyer," and "Dancing Blind."-[After The Show]
