Amanda Palmer @ Webster Hall in 2008 (more by Dese'Rae L. Stage)
Amanda Palmer

ATTN STEVE ALBINI: Amanda Palmer, who plays Stubb's in Austin tonight, is now going to pay those previously-volunteer musicians she corals locally for stops on her tour. Amanda writes:

for better or for worse, this whole kerfuffle has meant i've spent the past week thinking hard about this, listening to what everyone was saying and discussing. i hear you. i see your points. me and my band have discussed it at length. and we have decided we should pay all of our guest musicians. we have the power to do it, and we're going to do it. (in fact, we started doing it three shows ago.)
Meanwhile her new LP debuted at #10 on the Billboard album charts.

nothing like a public shaming to get people to pay up.

I only care about this story if pitchfork likes it

Lol, she got shamed into acting like a decent human being. But at this point , I'm guessing she'd do just about anything to divert attention from her shady accounting practices.

Yeah except she pays her guest musicians in eyebrow pencils

This story is getting more coverage than Romney's gaffes.

Something shady will happen with those kickstarter projects sooner or later. Well, I mean they will be exposed. Fairly certain they are not all on the up and up.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 7:12 PM

I am so sick of Amanda Palmer telling everyone that she is an artist!

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 7:25 PM

What will her next publicity stunt be? Time for her to divorce her sugar daddy yet?

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 7:27 PM

Am I the only one who thins that she looks like a female centaur in that picture?

I will say one other thing: I don't know where that Kickstarter money went, but I'm fairly certain that it didn't go toward plastic surgery.

what's shady about kickstarter? her kickstarter thing wasn't shady. it was just ridiculous that people were paying for the stuff she was offering. it was like $50 for a signed CD with a note and shit, and thousands of people bought it. $200 for an 'intimate concert' which is worth about 1/10th that.

her fans just fell for it.

She should pay everyone who saw her hairy armpits in that bathtub video.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 8:32 PM

She should pay Merrill Garbus for stealing her uke 'n' shout act.

now just go away

Still don't understand why this has gotten so much coverage. Especially if you're dumb enough to play without getting paid.

i'm glad we were able to help... trolls united 1 - palmer 0.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 8:55 PM

I really care about this.

Sweet! Welcome back to reality, AP. Now, the real question:

How much are you paying your horn and string players, and how much are you paying your management team?

Posted by confucious | September 20, 2012 9:35 AM

I am pleased with this result. Case closed!

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 9:44 AM

Im glad I have no idea who this person is.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 9:54 AM

Miss Palmer. You are too kind.

Amanda Palmer EXPOSED. All of the fanboys were claiming she was out of money... now all of a sudden there's money!! looks like Neil came through...

She needs to tuck her man junk and go away. I can't stand her.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 12:03 PM

Well, I'm sure a lot of the money probably went to Scientology

Her music is horrible and her stupidity regarding payment to musicians begs the question just how out of touch can you be to not pay your band. So fucking lame she must be.

I was going to come here and post something nasty about Ms Palmer, but I see that has been done with skill and economy I can only dream of. So I'll just add that the 30-odd years of her life that she will undoubtedly endure as a has-been will be more of a punishment for an attention whore like her than anything any of us could possibly dream up.

Posted by Left Out | September 27, 2012 9:43 AM

^ Couldn't care less about her music, but i'm pretty sure it's better to be a millionaire possible future has-been (gasp!) rather than a never-was bitter broke musician whining on brooklynvegan.

Just a thought.

that's a lot of assumption combined with your wind, anonymous
