ATPNY

The Greg Dulli-curated ATP NY is this weekend (9/21 - 9/23) and organizers just released the schedule which you can check out below. Music (and comedy on Friday) happens on two stages with films, talks and bingo taking place on the Queen of Hearts boat which is docked just nearby. If you're wondering, Frank Ocean is at 11:45 PM on Friday. Also, Chavez dropped and and have been replaced by JEFF the Brotherhood (Sat. 9/22 7 PM).

This is an extremely DULL-i lineup. Is there a special price I can pay just to see Dazed & Confused or Harold & Maude? It's not as if those are on cable 6 times a week.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:29 PM

NOOOOOO! BAH, FIRST LOSING LOUIS, NOW CHAVEZ!

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:29 PM

frank ocean listed on the top is one of the most ridiculous things

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:32 PM

Lightning Bolt, Philip Glass, Emeralds, The Magic Band and GYBE and then yaawwwwnn...

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:32 PM

is this under a tent or something? calling for plenty of rain sunday....what is the plan?

is it gonna sound shitty as hell outside too?

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:35 PM

THEE CHICK PEES

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:39 PM

what's stopping anyone from just standing outside to hear this?

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:40 PM

Most of the bands are only playing for 45 minuets. That seems way too short.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:45 PM

Is there going to be any seating?

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:47 PM

This is going to be a shitshow. But at least there will be some good comments to read with my coffee monday morning.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:50 PM

This is gonna suck so hard. Tix at the usual places going for under face already. Wait till Fri morning and watch the ticket dump

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:50 PM

Afghan Whigs will suck as usual

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:50 PM

Tickets can "be gotten online?" Please tell me that was an attempt at irony.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:51 PM

Hold on - someone actually is paying $75 per night for this shit? No fucking way. Someone - anyone - explain this to me.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 4:54 PM

i think that this is going to be a very fun weekend.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 5:07 PM

"i think that this is going to be a very fun weekend"

I think that you either work for ATP or you are the dumbest fucking idiot roaming the planet.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 5:12 PM

Jeez you guys are a bunch of whiny babies. Relax.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 5:28 PM

the lineup is too disjointed, Sure there are probably some people who like Philip Glass AND Frank Ocean, but not many, and most will show up right before Frank Ocean goes on.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 5:56 PM

I would love to see the Dirty Three but I can't justify paying $75 to see them play for 45 minuets when the last time they played here they played 90 minuets for $15.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 6:05 PM

Yea. This is not the kind of lineup you charge hundreds of dollars for.

Promoters are either greedy, or have very specific and peculiar tastes and don't realize...

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 6:07 PM

I would love to see Dirty Three play 45 minuets. That would really be something!

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 6:20 PM

Afghan Whigs are gonna kill it!

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 6:31 PM

ATP is the best. i can't wait.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 6:33 PM

This is slightly better than a free festival lineup, but one or two big names per day does not a festival make.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 6:38 PM

Atmosphere is just not going to be there. ATP has always been about the music and the experience...this is just lacking all over.

Very disappointed there were not Dirty Three shows added...even a Philly date would have been nice.

They made the mistake last year allowing every person in the lineup add NYC date...this year is the direct opposite and this thing may still fall flat on its face.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 6:43 PM

Wait... are Philip Glass And Tyondai Braxton playing TOGETHER?

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 6:44 PM

been to ATP the past few years, this is the weakest lineup in a while... bummed about Louis CK, Chavez played last year though.. Would've liked to see Shellac again though. Though I am looking forward to Ian Svenonius and The Make-Up, Hot Snakes, Lanegan, Jose Gonzales and a bunch others.. should still be pretty dope. See you there.

Posted by Will | September 19, 2012 6:52 PM

I think I am going to have fun and see the pictures to remind me of my fun time Monday. I will laugh at the negative comments cause I had fun. Fun is a good thing. More readers need to discover fun.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 6:52 PM

The Chick Pees > all these bands

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 6:55 PM

6:52 - Fun is a terrible band.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 7:11 PM

@6:44 - Yes.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 8:35 PM

Frank Ocean is are really not that good. I don't understand why all the blogs are so interested in him. I tried to see what the fuss was about. I don't hear it. The songs are boring. A lot of Odd Future sucks too. They must really have someone spending a lot of money for them.

Good for them.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 11:09 PM

6:31 "Afghan Whigs are gonna kill it!"

You mean kill the chances of there ever being another ATP NY festival? Certainly looks that way.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2012 11:49 PM

Does anyone know what can be done to replace a lost ticket? The ATP festival website is not terribly useful.

Posted by Kristen | September 19, 2012 11:59 PM

you guys are the best! See you at ATP!

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 1:54 AM

This like every other ATP is going to be amazing.why make snide comments on something you've never attended? Fucking dickwads

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 5:04 AM

5:04. I've been to the ATPs, chilled w/ Cox. Played cards with Albini. I was thurr.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 8:30 AM

I like frank ocean, but the fact that he has top billing makes this festival look shitty to me.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 9:12 AM

Billy Ocean and Afghan Wigs? INteresting.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 9:19 AM

I will have fun.
My friends will have fun.

You fucking people can sit home and rot.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 9:21 AM

GY!BE is worth $75 alone AND they have a two hour slot. Oh the humanity.

Better yet and nothing against ATP (not every year will please everyone and this year proves that) but if you want to see Godspeed in a truly once in a lifetime space. Take a road trip tonight up to Hudson, NY where they are playing Basilica Hudson for $20. You couldn't dream up a better space to experience GY!BE.

http://basilicahudson.com/about/

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 9:23 AM

Correction - $15 for Godspeed tonight...in an abandon foundry on the banks of the Hudson River. Could that sound any better?

http://basilicahudson.com/godspeed-you-black-emperor-2/

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 9:25 AM

I really wanted to see Godspeed tonight but could not corral any of my friends into the $60 Amtrak ticket plus $100 overnight hotel.

Which, is why the location change for ATP might be good. I have already convinced a few people to get day passes for this weekend. Even for myself, I would not have traveled and spent hotel money for this lineup in Asbury.

Obviously, I'd prefer in general that it had stayed away somewhere to keep the atmosphere. But there is an up side to this - I can bring friends I wouldn't normally get to bring to these events when they were overnights.

Even though it's a weak lineup for ATP, it's still a lot more interesting then your average festival lineup like Governors Ball. And if the people that comment miserable shit here don't go because... "Beck" isn't playing. Well, that's actually pretty great news for the festival. I just hope enough people come to justify it returning next year.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 10:36 AM

Seriously, how is Billy Ocean on this list?

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 10:36 AM

9:23 god damnit. I have unbreakable plans for the night, and would have been fine with this, but now I know I'm missing this. Fuck you.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 10:53 AM

Billy Ocean = BLOOD OCEAN

...I KNOOOOW WHOOOO YOOOU AAAAAAAAAAAAAARE!!!!!!!

BLOOOOOD.........OCEAN...

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 11:25 AM

Has anyone been to this venue yet? How feasible is listening from outside? I just don't want to get tickets for like 1/10th of the lineup...

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 11:50 AM

I'm looking at the map for that GYBE show, and I'm guessing it would be a 4 hour trip one-way if you're lucky. Thanks, I'm sure it will be good, but I can afford a few more dollars and a wait until Sunday.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 1:20 PM

We're doing it. 124 miles from the bronx up 87 so in theory 2 hrs up, 2 hrs back. Can't go on Sunday and this hudson venue does look nice and gloomy.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 3:29 PM

Start a BV rideshare!!!

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 3:39 PM

What I want to know is, how the fuck do I keep up with their ever-changing punctuation?

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 4:07 PM

@4:07 - it's easy. Go back in time 10 years to when they were just starting to lose their relevance and ask any (then) hipster. If the hipster hasn't already gotten sick of GYBE, they can help you out.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 4:25 PM

4:25 "relevance"? What are you talking about? I'm not sure GYBE were ever "relevant" in most senses of the word, they just make music that some people like.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 4:30 PM

Godspeed is not about being relevant (what does that mean anyway?). They are a group of people that sit in a circle and play music. Somehow it's kind of cool and a bit trippy. Relevant? Don't know about that.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 4:44 PM

4:30 / 4:44 - pool your resources and buy a clue, ok?

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2012 7:18 PM

Hey BV - Lee and Leah are no longer playing on Friday night, due to "technical issuees". He announced it on Facebook this evening.

Total bummer!

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:28 AM

"4:30 / 4:44 - pool your resources and buy a clue, ok?"

Eh, just shut up and let people like what they like. Ok?

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:19 AM

^ I'm sorry. I cannot do it. Must hate. Hate hate hate.

Posted by 7:18 | September 21, 2012 11:23 AM

^ little Cheetos fingers faggot ... figures.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:28 AM

11:28 - Are you tough? You don't look so tough to me! You're not so tough.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:35 AM

11:35 - I think that's a mirror, silly bunny. You want to show your face, we can talk all about it. I promise not to hit you, not at first.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:47 AM

11:47 - I was quoting the Matt Dillon movie "My Bodyguard." Having a bad day at work?

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:53 AM

Will be great like every year. Ready to hear some bands I don't know well and leave the "big name bands" to you virgin whiners. Suck it!

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:27 PM

Lush or Slowdive reunion? No? Then no thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2012 1:49 PM

Frank Ocean's music is completely average. The only thing interesting here is how he actually came out when Kanye, etc continue to stay on the down low.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2012 1:59 PM

1:49 - Miki swears she's never gonna do it. She's an overweight housewife now (not that that matters at all) who wants people to remember her and Lush as they were in their prime. A rare bit of anti cash-in integrity in this day and age if you ask me.

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2012 3:22 PM

integra who? apparently every housewife gets bored:

fuck shoegaze and lets have a fugazi reunion

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2012 3:55 PM

I loved getting the ATP music on Facebook from this weekend concert . I also loved the portal to Roger Waters and Pink Floud concerts. Keep me in mind for future posts. And I am a long time Philip Glass fan. Thanks.

Posted by Sally Nussbaum | September 22, 2012 9:46 PM

Good work! i love is jobs! They must really have someone spending a lot of money for them. Thanks for sharing!
