ATP

The first-ever ATP NY happened back in 2008, but up in the Catskills. That lasted three glorious years before moving to Asbury Park last year. Asbury Park was also great, but wasn't in the cards for 2012 so ATP moved the festival to NYC where it happens THIS WEEKEND at Pier 36 (you can see the location in the map above). Today's schedule looks like this:

Friday 21st September
Festival opens - 6.00pm

Stage 1:
Lightning Bolt - 8.30pm-9.00pm
Lee Ranaldo And Leah Singer Edan The Dee Jay - 9.15pm-10.15pm
Philip Glass And Tyondai Braxton - 10.45pm-11.15pm
Frank Ocean - 11.45pm-1.00am

Stage 2:
Kurt Braunholer - 7.05pm-7.25pm
Hannibal Buress - 7.30pm-7.55pm
Janeane Garofalo - 8.00pm-8.30pm

Films On Queen Of Hearts:
Koyaanisqatsi - 8.00pm
Quadrophenia - 10.00pm (featuring the brand new surround mix made by the Who)
+ Edan The Dee Jay

Poor Kurt B. And hopefully that 30 minute break between Glass and Ocean is enough time for the awkward changeover to happen. I mean, I love Frank and Philip, but I'm afraid that A LOT of Frank fans will be showing up just for his set, and many of them will have very little interest in the rest of the lineup, especially music you need to be very quiet during. Check out the full, three-day SCHEDULE. Get your TICKETS (THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR).

UPDATE: Lee Ranaldo has been replaced by Edan (a DJ who is also DJing later in the film room). We also recently found out Chavez was replaced by JEFF the Brotherhood on Saturday.

Listen to some music below...

This lineup is epically bad.

Have fun pretending to have fun at this disaster!

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:01 AM

Lee Ranaldo got yanked on Friday, and replaced with a 90 minute Edan DJ set. If I wasn't dreading having to sit through Lee Ranaldo twice, I'd be complaining about a bait and switch. As it stands, I'm goddamn relieved.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:02 AM

^ I'd rather hear about people having fun at this than you attempting to piss on their Wheaties.
Fuck off small minded white man.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:03 AM

Now that Lee packed up his shit, every act on Friday is awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:05 AM

how many people do you think actually paid for this event? 100?

They moved this year due to shitty ticket sales and a ton of people asked for refunds. I've heard people are getting comps left and right. If you know someone who has ever written a blog post or a tweet about music ask them if they're on the list. They probably have a +10.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:10 AM

Lee Ranaldo info updated, thanksss

Posted by brooklynvegan | September 21, 2012 11:11 AM

I do love the ATP flyer though.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:12 AM

Quadrophenia should run during that dang DJ set . WTF?!?!

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:15 AM

Wish I got a refund while I had the chance. I am starting to doubt that it will even still be running come Sunday noon.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:16 AM

As much as this has been a complete shitshow, it should still be a great time. ATP, even at their worst, rarely disappoints on site. The livelier Friday lineup should help that along as well.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:16 AM

the ATP NY saga has become incredibly depressing :(

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:19 AM

@11:15, Quadrophenia is playing at IFC this weekend in case you're interested.

This whole event is almost as bad as Rock the Bells this year.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:28 AM

^ thanks 11:28, but I actually paid the full nut for this shit, so I'm just bummed at this disaster. The only redeeming things are Afghan Whigs and GY!BE, both of which are great but not worth $200.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:31 AM

^doesn't know anything about music

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:33 AM

here come the nerds.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:40 AM

^ ha ha the amazing Kreskin you are not! Post your top three picks of what I should be listening to now, oh musical wizard. I'll wait.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:41 AM

Thee Chick Pees

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:43 AM

Three cheers for listening from outside the venue during one or two acts!!!

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:45 AM

Can't wait!
ATP is the best festival out there and this year I can sleep in my own bed. Stoked about the Make-Up and Godspeed for starters.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:45 AM

Do you think Phillip Glass will get bashful or shy while Koyaaniqatsi is playing?

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:46 AM

Hahaha is that map right? It's gonna be under the fucking FDR???

Oh man that should sound GREAT! What a great, totally not-the-worst location!

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:48 AM

what kind of square goes to see bands when the sun is out? no thanks.

ATP is basically a convention for dorks.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:49 AM

11:33 - still waiting for your wisdom and insight on what good music is. Come on wise one, school us all on what music is all about.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:51 AM

I SAID THEE CHICK PEES

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:53 AM

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:54 AM

Post a link for THEE CHICK PEES or they don't exist faggot

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:55 AM

GRRR HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:57 AM

Tell you what cool is not ... sitting in your mom's basement in Dubuque Iowa posting on a Brooklyn website thinking that you are cool. You are a sad little man 11:33

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 11:59 AM

Does anyone know why Lee Ranaldo is not playing?

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 12:02 PM

Jewish holiday, can't go.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 12:03 PM

I thought Janeane Garofalo was pmping gas in Jersey these days?

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 12:05 PM

Anyone been to this "venue" before?

Listening from outside: possible? Or would "outside" be the other side of the FDR?

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 12:11 PM

Under the Skanklin Deleno HOsevelt

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 12:11 PM

Oh, now it's about the weather? Like any of the haters ever climb out of the Internet to feel the sun. Hilarious.

Soyhummuschickpea

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 12:22 PM

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 12:28 PM

The best ATP lineup this weekend is obviously Ty Segall at death by audio monday

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 12:29 PM

Lightning Bolt!

Dirtbombs? Yes please.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:01 PM

Fuck the haters.as anyone who's ever been to an ATP festival before knows, its the best festival on earth.i'd hazard a guess that 90% of the above haven't attended one

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:03 PM

12:05, please no bathroom humor.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:17 PM

^Well, I'd hazard to guess 100% of them haven't been to one underneath the god damn FDR

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:17 PM

Any occasion to hear Mark Lanegan sing like a satanic crooner is fine.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:22 PM

^ Yes, best festival because was outside of NY and in a remote location.

Having this in NY, with typical NY crowds will make all the difference. Nothing against the crowds, but when the show is over, everyone disperses across the huge city to whatever bar they choose and the camaraderie felt at the festival is completely lost. With a playground such as NY right outside the gate, who is really going to give the full line up the attention it deserves. I know IBYM fests are supposed to be different from typical ATP festivals, but AP and Catskills were probably the closest the US would see without having to shell out money to fly to the UK.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:23 PM

^Camaraderie? That sentiment isn't going to resonate too much on a comment board full of hating haters and basement-misanthropes.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:26 PM

what kind of asshole is looking for camaraderie at a concert?

Like I said: nerd convention.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:29 PM

^probably NOT an asshole. i think that's the point. Why don't you just stay at home and watch it streaming, so you can alt tab between that and whatever weird tentacle porn you watch on chrome incognito mode so you mom doesn't catch you.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:33 PM

^how about I just go see a band at a nightclub at night like a normal person?

Have fun at the nerd convention.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:40 PM

"nightclub"?

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:45 PM

"We Be Clubbin'" by Ice Cube

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:46 PM

your befuddled by the concept of a nightclub?

These conglomerate events are so whack. Who wants to see a rock band on Sunday at 3pm? What part of the game is that?

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 1:48 PM

Philip Glass will do for Toni Braxton what Giorgio Moroder did for Donna Summer.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:06 PM

So what if its a nerd convention? So what if its under the fdr? what a hardcore-arsehole do you have to be, to tease people for choosing to go to a festival they heard about, checked the line-up and considered it to be worth going to. quite frankly, reading the comments almost killed my buzz being able to go to that show. go to the concerts YOU like and stop making smart-arse comments about a festival you dont even intend to watch you arrogant twats

Posted by German in NY | September 21, 2012 2:06 PM

2:06 totally WANTED to spell Braxton's first name correctly, but was forced to choose between one of the members of the seminal 80s soul / rnb group Tony! Toni! Toné!

Working with such a limited set of options, I'd see it came out good.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:08 PM

2:06 don't worry, you won't run into internet trolls at actual concerts, because internet trolls live on the internet.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:09 PM

i wouldnt even go if it were free..

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:12 PM

^me either. I'm being 100% serious.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:15 PM

i'm not ruining my body with alcohol and cigarettes so i really like 3pm concerts. to be honest

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:16 PM

^lol

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:24 PM

^not really helping the argument that this is somehow not a nerd convention.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:24 PM

i'd prefer a nerd convention to a bro convention hardcore show where i have to be constantly vigilant for flying bro-boots

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:28 PM

^me too, but I wouldn't go to either.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:35 PM

Sorry 2:35, it's an either/or situation. You have to choose one.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:37 PM

^ha, yeah obviously.

stop fucking up rock & roll nerds.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:43 PM

"nerds"? Really? Are you guys still in middle school?

What's your stance on "jocks" maaaan?

What about sk8rs????

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:52 PM

^not really helping the argument that this is somehow not a nerd convention.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 2:53 PM

^idiot

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 3:05 PM

^nerd.

Is there a special hotel rate for you alt-rock hobbyists?

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 3:25 PM

Funny, Frank Ocean fans are so disconnected from the whole ATP thing. They're still trying to unload today's for face value on CL when you basically can get a whole weekend pass around that price...
ATP always had the token hiphop artist but letting it take over as a friday's headliner? Sad.

Posted by ME | September 21, 2012 3:26 PM

"hiphop"

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 4:36 PM

3:26 - Public Enemy and Kool Keith are "tokens" huh? Please be quiet.

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2012 8:21 PM
