Guitarmy marches (photo by Danny Villa)
Guitarmy

There was an OWS concert in Foley Square yesterday. Today this is happening:

Occupy Guitarmy is part of the music working group of occupy wall street. We will be taking part in September 17, Occupy one year anniversary actions in downtown New York City. We invite musicians, noisemakers, and everyone else to come join us on the streets for a day of action. We will be meeting at each of these spots at these times. Come meet us and spend an hour or two with us, pop in and out, and enjoy a day of talking and acting with like-minded people concerned about the economic, cultural, social, and environmental future of our world.

9am Liberty Park @ Liberty (150 Broadway, Bank of America)

10am Morris and Broadway (The Bull)

11am Broadway and Beaver Street (Bowling Green)

2pm Whitehall Street and South Street Staten Island Ferry Terminal - THE PEOPLE'S YACHT - ride to Staten Island and back.

3:30pm Water Street and Coenties Slip (Chase)

4pm Liberty and Nassau Street (The Federal Reserve)

5pm Broadway and Murray Street (City Hall)

6pm Assembly (either Liberty or Foley)

Occupy Guitarmy will also be on hand outside the Jay-Z concert at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Sept. 28.

It's the closest thing most of these codgers have ever come to "playing out".

How fucking embarrassing.

I don't understand the hatred of OWS kids. Instead of just being embarassed for them. It's kind of adorable, really.

Playing songs for a purpose died with Guthrie. Now, people play songs to get laid, receive free drink promotions and to be on some in-the-know blog like BV.

Sing a song, yeah, that's the ticket.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 12:29 PM

Sorry, can't "join them." I'm at work.

Good to see a lot of artists support OWS.

And fuck Jay-Z.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 12:54 PM

Jay-Z is going to sample them for his next hit song.

Let's stand on Varick St. and strum guitars to end... capitalism or something.

Tomorrow, lets jump rope on 14th Street to end... mean-ness.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 2:29 PM

How is this a "day of action"?

I'm not trying to be snarky, I really mean it.

"enjoy a day of talking and acting with like-minded people concerned about the economic, cultural, social, and environmental future of our world."

...what the fuck does that even mean?

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 2:35 PM

tl;dr: "If you are an upper middle class suburban white kid who is still feeling adolescent rebellion but with absolutely no real world problems, come to a thing called 'a day of action and feeling' or something so you can raise your fist in the air and tell yourself you are a revolutionary, before taking the 9:04 metro north back to Chappaqua.

How much is this OWS carnival costing NYC taxpayers? There must be 500 cops in spitting distance of my building, all with nothing much to do--except get paid double OT or whatever the F. In my short constitutional to Starbux (as a working stiff), all of 90 seconds on the street, I witnessed thick knots of NYPD'ers, but this: OWS supporters holding up some silly sign, "Blah, blah, F the X%..Blah Blah" and some guy walking by, saying, "It's a gorgeous day, try and cheer up a little." The OWS supporter unsnarled his lip long enough to spout, "Oh yea? Is it a gorgeous day for the middle class?" The guy, dressed in khakis and polo shirt, laughed a little and said, “Asshole, I AM the middle class!” ZING.

Then I walked into Starbux. Huge line, maybe 15 people. Some big fat cop walks in, sees the line, and proceeds to cut everyone, grabs two cans of espresso whatever the F, and I lip read what he says to cashier, “Can I just pay for this?” and walks out. To do what? Address some clear and present danger? NOPE. To stand there with all the other fat cops, laughing, probably thinking about the beaucoup dollores they’re making from this nonsense.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 3:03 PM

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 3:06 PM

what if the nypd and media chose not to humor this and didn't show up? FIZZLE. probably more cops and journalists out there than "radicals" anyway.

Whoa whoa we got some internet tough guys, I'm gettin' outta here!

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 4:25 PM

Oh here's Mr. "Internet Tough Guy", shows up in every thread accusing others of being "Internet Tough Guys". This is the kid you kick yourself as an adult for not beating up more frequently when you had the chance, when he was just the annoying kid that smells awful in the back of the bus. Hah ha ha ha fucking twerp. Now watch, he'll accuse me of being an "Internet Tough Guy". So predictable.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 4:36 PM

Are you aware the phrase "internet tough guy" is a term not limited to one person?

It's as silly as saying "oh look, it's the guy who laughs out loud all the time!!!!"

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 4:44 PM

And as you know fuckwad there is a guy - the same guy - in every thread on BV that only knows this as his catch-all accusation when he has nothing to add to the conversation, or another poster is totally in his head, or he's just butthurt because someone just called him out on his bullshit. I'd say we hit the trifecta with this assclown in this thread today amirite.

If the left has taught me anything it's that rock concerts are the solution to everything.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 6:02 PM

OWS is the best thing going right now.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 6:05 PM

It sounds naive but music is so powerful it's gonna bring down the whole system. All of it. Like that Rage Against The Machine album that popped the tech bubble.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 7:12 PM

"Which side are you on" is a really good song.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2012 2:06 AM

The music of one percenters. Not the richest 1% mind you, just the smelliest and ugliest one percent. Vegans. High school dodgeball victims. Fags who shop at anarchist bookstores. Basically the bottom of the barrel 1%. I hope there were good papier mache masks and puppetry involved yesterday, though.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2012 8:41 AM

I got a OWS balloon out of the deal. SWAG! It says "I am not a loan". Which is true, I guess. But it's a sad slogan for a movement because by asserting via punnery that the movement is not just backed by the few (i.e., not alone, get it, get it?), you underline how isolated you really are. Where's Goebells when you need him?

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2012 10:35 AM

They have plenty of willing propaganda organs. The problem is that their primary allegiance is to Baracky, and OWS just isn't all that helpful to a left winger who is seeking re-election to a national office. They don't bring anyone new.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2012 11:53 AM

OWS does not necessarily support Obama...

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2012 12:13 PM

Right, OWS does not support Obama the way the Tea Party does not support Romney.
