UPDATE Deakin issues an apology, explains situation

Speaking of Kickstarter accountability,
In 2009, Josh Dibb, who performs in the experimental noise-pop band Animal Collective as Deakin, set up a Kickstarter campaign to fund a trip to Mali. He'd been invited to perform at the famous Festival au Désert and wanted to simultaneously work with Malian anti-human-trafficking groups. He promised fans photos, field recordings or a book if they donated, and he raised more than $25,000.Animal Collective recently put out a new album and are touring their way to Williamsburg Park.If one looks at the top comments on his Kickstarter campaign site today, however, it's full of fans complaining that they have never received anything for their money. "I backed this as a gift to my boyfriend... good thing we're still dating since 2009!" one wrote. [LA Times]

Can't say I have even an ounce of compassion for the kind of losers who give money to kickstarter gambits.

I'll find him and thump him for a bit.
Won't get you your money, but at least he'll get a painful taste of reality.
Watch you back, Dick-on! You're easy to find.

the guy who is going to get shown around by a local who runs a real cool desert music fest...
anyway, this was THE first kickstarter campaign I ever saw. (maybe on of the first ever?)
It's a damn shame people haven't gotten their stuff. Probably because he didnt actually do any creative work on the project while he was over there or got lazy when he came back. I was actually made to feel like an asshole by deakin himself on the animal collective messageboard 3 years ago when I was trying to point out that this seemed a little weird from the way it was originally presented. I now do not feel like an asshole for my comments three years ago and am glad I didn't help fund this. I'm sure Deakin has been busy but no excuse for this. People would have been happy to get a CDR of recordings from his trip which would be very simple to do
