UPDATE: This happened.

Occupy Wall Street

In recognition of Occupy Wall Street's first anniversary there will be a concert, from the Occupy Guitarmy folks who are looking to educate Jay-Z to the OWS cause outside his first show at the Barclays Center, will be held in New York's Foley Square today (9/16) featuring Tom Morello, Jello Biafra, Michelle Shocked, Lee Ranaldo, Das Racist's Kool A.D., My Brightest Diamond, and more.

The concert starts at 1 PM, following at march from the West Village and will be an open jam, playing classic protest songs like Woodie Gutherie's "This Land Is Your Land," Florence Reece's "Which Side Are You On?" as well as more modern sing-a-longs like Cee lo Green's "Fuck You." More info at the OccupyGuitarmy website.

You all know Woody Guthrie wrote over 1,000 songs, right? Some of them ACTUAL protest songs... Well, since this whole movement seems to be based on wrangling people into an umbrella cause using the lowest common denominators, I guess it wouldn't be worth trying to actually teach people anything new. I would pay to see Jello leading a verse of This Land is Your Land.

How much has the Occupy Corporation made in it's fist year? Has anyone been keeping track? Oh, that's right. It's all donations so Occupy doesn't have to pay taxes on it...

Just to get ready for this event I haven't showered for a couple days.

morello's diatribe in most recent rollingstone would've been better placed in the onion. isn't he, ya know, like a yale grad and multimillionaire hanging with models in hollywood? flying private jets. staying at the ritz carlton. diligently filling out backstage "riders" for post-show champagne, bottles of perrier chilled to precisely 36 degrees, foie gras warmed so as to dance on his delicate taste buds. it's not just hypocrisy. it's far more pernicious, if you give it even a moment's thought. biafra, however, is mentally ill. deranged, even. he is anti this, anti that, having foregone vast riches by disallowing DK songs in television commercials, etc. still, with his record label, he, too, is a mogul, someone detached from reality, just far less flamboyantly than morello (well, biafra's flamboyant, just, er, in a different way)

HAHA. Millionaires ranting about other American citizens hording wealth. Hilarious. What's the expression? "We met the enemy and he is us?" HAHAH. Glad we live in a country where hypocrisy could run so wild on city streets, in city parks. Happy Sunday.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2012 10:49 AM

A loaded one.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2012 10:53 AM

I don't see Lee Ronaldo on the poster.....

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2012 11:11 AM

Okay, so Tom Morello sucks because he's a shameless corporate whore, and Jello Biafra is mentally ill for NOT being one? Great rationale. We really value your opinions here on BV.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2012 12:56 PM

12:56: reading comprehension begins at an early age. sorry you missed you. not one mention of corporate whoredom for morello; it says he's stinking rich, however. do you want me to re-explain biafra, too?

Will Occupy have anyone policing the joint to assure that I won't be ass-raped by a jobless and mentally-unstable Occupier? I'm saving my ass for marriage.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2012 2:57 PM

Couple battalions of NYPD out there! Your asses are safe!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2012 3:10 PM

Occupy was a success last year. America hates bankers now.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2012 3:14 PM

i hope they bring in tear gas and attack dogs for all the people going to the shows. This will show them to attend free show and supporting the banks

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2012 3:15 PM

Should we tell all the hedge funds and private equity firms to just pack it in? I mean... there's an Occupy Thing(tm) going on. That's pretty much the end of capitalism.

Didn't you see the bandanas?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2012 4:43 PM

Oh man, this is gonna make such a huge difference in the world. Everyone who attends should really feel like they're fighting the power, a real revolutionary, like Ghandi.

So brave...

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2012 4:47 PM

@2:35 - and how exactly did he get rich, genius? its okay. spend the night working on your next big BV essay - someday you'll touch a woman!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2012 6:15 PM

I wonder how many women got raped?

The fucking stupidity.

Dead.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 5:23 AM

Who is John Galt?

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 8:17 AM

^^^I get Rearden steel in my pants everytime I hear that phrase.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 8:42 AM

I'd like to use Reardon Metal to crack some Occupy skulls. Their stupidity makes them ineffectual and worthy of laughter, but they smell like diseased vermin, and that, this dude can't abide. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Muthafuckas.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2012 9:47 AM

Smell you later you disgusting hypocrites & deadbeats. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on you way out of the city.
