The Fugees

Before The Miseducation and that ridiculous cover of "Stayin Alive", Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill were in a little crew called The Fugees. Their split was, in the words of Ron Burgundy, kind of a big deal but the reason why has always been a mystery. (Beyond egos and "musical differences.") Until now...

The answer, says Jean, is that Lauryn Hill tricked him into believing her firstborn son, Zion, was his. But we all know now that the father is Rohan Marley.

"In that moment something died between us," Jean writes in "PURPOSE." "I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn't forgive that."

Jean goes on to say that the betrayal he felt from Hill led to the band's breakup. -[EURWeb]

More details surrounding the alleged affair are supposedly available in Wyclef's new book Purpose: An Immigrant's Story, which conveniently hits shelves Tuesday (9/18).

In the case of thirteen-year old Zion... Wyclef?

You are NOT the father!

So he was mad that the woman he was cheating with was also with someone else... because people who cheat are so trustworthy? Interesting.

3:39, I think he was angry bc she lied to him and told him the kid was his, rather than either tell him she knew the kid wasn't, or that she wasn't sure who the father was

@4:36 - yes, that's how I read it, too. It's just extraordinarily naive. I guess I can't blame him for being naive, it's just not exactly book-worthy or in any way profound. It's Jerry Springer shit.

ayo brooklyn vegan...on some GOAT-rap-group-type-real-shit, i really don't like the little snarky comments in the way this author wrote this post. you should watch your tone when you write about rap groups that have an album as classic as "the score". very few rappers these days have albums you can listen to the whole way through. what happened with the fugees was a tragedy, no matter what drama caused it. with all kinds of rumors drummed up throughout the years about reunions and feuds and such, fans like me and thousands of others around the world ache for this kind of information. this is an importance piece of the puzzle that you really just needed to report on. you didn't need tomention ron burgundy's pretentious ass quotes, obvious sarcastically placed quotation marks, and the word "conveniently" into this news brief.
