Die Antwoord @ ACL 2012 (by Glen Brown)
ACLACL

We've completed our coverage of this past weekend's Austin City Limits festival with a set of pictures from Sunday, Die Antwoord (like the above) included.

Die Antwoord have a new and controversial video for "Fatty Boom Boom" which you can watch below.

Still no word on the identity of the body found near Austin Music Hall.

Maybe you heard it's CMJ week here in NYC and we're already tired and we haven't even seen any shows yet. But we are pumped to be throwing two day parties on at Public Assembly. Saturday's line-up hasn't been announced yet, but you can check out Friday's (10/19, including METZ, Savages and The Intelligence) here.

We also are sad to report that, despite what the flyer says, Sharon Van Etten is NOT playing that Thursday day party at Ace Hotel.

Muppets

A "Million Muppet March" is being planned in Washington DC on November 3 (three days before the election) to protest Mitt Romney's pledge to cut funding to PBS if elected president. The second of three Presedential Debates happens tonight at 9 PM EDT... UPDATE:

Speaking of, Menomena just toured through NYC and played Music Hall of Williamsburg and Bowery Ballroom.

The Lollipop King is suing South Park.

Watch Godspeed You! Black Emperor on Windy City kids show Chic-A-Go-Go.

More stuff below...

---

Beyonce will perform at the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show.

You can stream Julie Dorion's new album, So Many Days, over at Exclaim!

Southern Lord pressed more copies of Sleep's Dopesmoker double LP and they're available now.

'Under the Radar' mag protest signs
sign

Music mag Under the Radar's Charity Protest Auction, to benefit War Child, starts today. You can win autographed signs used their "Protest" issue from the likes of Janelle Monáe, Death Cab for Cutie, Tegan and Sara, Dan Deacon and more. (Those are examples above.) If you haven't seen the issue, it's worth seeking out an actual physical copy, great photographs throughout.

I think the term 'Haters Gonna Hate' has helped ruin everything about culture.

Cause now when something sucks, i.e. Insane Clown Posse, Die Anterwood, HONEY BOOBOO... the list goes on. They just say we are haters.

And we are, cause YOU SUCK...BAD!
Terrible 'artists' get more famous because of the negative attention. I know art is objective, but seriously...who enjoyed "Piss Christ"(remember that!) except some nerd who was desperate for attention

What happened? I MISS REAL ROCK STARS/ARTISTS.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 10:27 PM

Obama needed a big win, a classic Andy Pettitte clutch win, a Derek Jeter dive in the stands game saving catch ... and he got at best a tie. And got told to sit down and shut up (which he did).

Obama's over.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 11:05 PM

Amen to that! Time for a university job and an MSNBC gig.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 11:53 PM

That was a win for the President.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2012 1:07 AM

For those of you who can't read between the lines of 11:05's comment, let me help you.
When a typical repuke troll claims the President tied in the debate, that is basically him conceding that the President won. They just don't like to admit it.

And win the President did. Easily. Romney the robot comes off so idiotic and stiff and a bitter little bitch.

But yes 11:05 please keep believing those polls and thinking your man is gonna win. Keep thinking women are turning for Romney as time gets near and the majority of women realize if this moron wins they can kiss Roe V Wade goodbye. Remember ladies and remind your fellow women, the next president will probably get to name 2 Supreme Court justices. Look up Robert Bork and see the man who would be advising Romney on justice pics.

The day after the election is gonna be some fun watching Conservative cry.

Late night typo. Obviously pics=picks

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2012 1:22 AM

Beyonce at halftime? I guess they ran out of old rock stars so now it's worthless pop stars. I think I'll pass.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2012 1:54 AM

Here is Mitt Romney in a nutshell for people who don't pay attention to the debates.

The president is wrong
I'm a little whiny bitch so i need to always get the last word in
5 Point plan
5 point plan
5 point plan
(don't ask me for specifics cause I can't tell you cause then Congress would know my game plan)

Oh also forgot the best one "I am a jobs grower. It is what I have done al my life."
(of course ignoring all the companies Bain took apart and people thrown out of work while he enriched himself)

Seriously, I understand the economy is not good and the president has his mistakes but the stupidity of people believing this empty suit is remarkable. It would be laughable if it was not so frightening.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2012 2:05 AM

I MISS REAL ROCK STARS/ARTISTS

I agree. I love jazz, blues, Latin, African, Americana, Brazilian, soul, funk, reggae, some indie rock, electronic, trip hop, dub step etc but I miss real rock bands that can fill arenas/stadiums. No one since Radiohead and U2 can do it. Kind of sad. Foo Fighters, Kings Of Leon, Muse and any other pretenders just plain suck at it.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2012 2:06 AM

1:54 AM - Excuse me? You think you'll "pass"? I'm sorry, but that's just not an option here. You think they would have made Beyonce the halftime show if we could just "pass"? No. You don't have that choice. None of us do. Things aren't like that anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2012 2:26 AM

Late night typo.

Posted by nexen | October 17, 2012 3:09 AM

Wow, crazy eyes leftie up late last night ... I guess when your manic and miss your Lithium it's hard to unwind.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story, crazy eyes.

The real story is clear - Obama did not get the win, which he needed. And every legitimate news source agrees with this assessment, as well as those who participated in exit polls.

The problem is that the crazy eyes leftie thinks that if he thinks really hard and believes something that it will come to pass. Like congress for intance ... if only those damn Republicans in congress didn't foul up the Dem's plans (along with a supermajority that the Dems had for 2 years) ... it really is laughable. Like a child with magical thinking.

Please, crazy eyes, write back. I love this. You are like the ball of string, waiting to be swatted.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2012 5:23 AM

Can someone who watched the debate please tell me what Obama said he would do differently over his second 4 years from what he has done over this past 4 years? Because I don't want to have another 4 years like that.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2012 5:48 AM

^ EXACTLY! That is the dirty little secret - Obama promised to lay out his vision for the next term, and what we got was a lot of bitching about not having equal time (fact = he received almost 10% more time than Romney) and arguments over semantics of whether Obama said Bengazi was a terrorist attack (which he spoke generally about at that time but his subsequent actions support Romney's point).

The more debates they have, the more Romney looks like the adult in the room and the more Obama looks personally offended that anyone is daring to challenge him. Obama is so full of hubris that he cannot see how arrogant he is coming across. But, those engaging in polls obviously see it.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2012 10:36 AM

The question is not whether Romney won. The question is whether Obama won, decisively enough to balance the ass kicking he got 2 weeks ago. And the answer to that is resoundingly "NO".

Romney didn't have to "win". All Romney needed to to was to tie (to retain the momentum) and to continue to strike a presidential stance (which he did repeatedly by smacking Obama down and telling him to be quiet and sit down, which Obama did each time). So, advantage remains with Romney.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2012 11:05 AM

I'm amazed that there are still people defending this incompetent shithead who are not paid to do so. I'll admit that I voted for Obama, but only an idiot would do that a second time.

^ I think that you're assuming too much (or have exposed the truth) ... I would not be the least bit surprised if there are Obama staffers that consider it part of their job, no their civic duty, to spam post drivel in defense of this guy. I suppose that it's to be expected, given the same tactics used by his brothers in arms Chavez, Abidinijad, Asad and Putin. Not surprising as well that he and his cohort (Axelrod, Carney, Dailey, Emanuel, Jarrod, Holder, etc.) share political DNA with those dictators. All dictators are essentially the same.

^all people (on the left and right) who get worked up about politics, and think they know what's going on, are the same personality type.

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2012 1:42 PM

Dear America. The economy may not be in the best shape right now, but Republicans who continue to harp on this, even as it continues to rebound, have some serious collective f'ing amnesia. The US was on the verge of economic collpase and Obama absolutely helped to steer it back on course (a monumental task in and of itself) and continued to get stuff done along the way as well (pass healtcare, Wall Street & student loan reform, kill Bin Laden). Only the most petulant, partisan baby would not give him credit for that and understand fixing an economy that was driven into a ditch isn't as easy as calling AAA. Is Obama perfect and has he accomplished everything I'd hoped? No. But Romney is a formless, opinionless, cipher of an empty suit who will only do whatever the loudest, craziest and richest voices in the Republican party tell him to do and think.

The financial crisis was so much more the fault of Clinton than you crazy lefties are even capable of admitting. You need to take some business and econ classes and learn about how the world works. Then you can read the summaries published in Time, Newsweek, WSJ, Business Week, Forbes, etc. that pin blame much more clearly on Clinton.
