Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard released his debut solo LP, Former Lives, yesterday (10/16) and celebrated it with a private, intimate release show at HiFi Bar on Avenue A. He played a bunch off his new album and also treated us to a number of Death Cab faves like "Blacking Out the Friction," "Title and Registration," "Soul Meets Body," and "Grapevine Fires." During his set, Ben told a story about how he was happy to return to the space that used to be Brownies, where Death Cab played years ago. The show was opened by Bird of Youth singer Beth Wawerna. Pictures from the show are in this post.

Ben will return to NYC when his tour with Advance Base hits Town Hall on November 5. Tickets for that show are still available.
