Artwork for 'KVLT'
Blood Duster - Kvlt

Actually, do people go to the record store to buy their BLOOD DUSTER music anymore? No, everyone just rips it off from the internet. This was one of the major points of discussion when the band set out to record their latest bunch of noise.

..Taking the DIY punk ethos one step further, they have created their own ethos called, Do It Yourself, For Yourself or DIYFY, and will release their brand new album on limited edition vinyl but it's pretty much unplayable. You can buy the record but it will have the album's title KVLT scratched into the grooves rendering it useless.

BLOOD DUSTER have proven to you that they have made an album, they just don't want you to hear it. This is a band taking total control of what is theirs.

The band have even taken the extreme step of destroying the masters so there is no chance of it ever mysteriously turning up on the net, no super fan ever getting that one copy. Nothing. The album literally no longer exists.

Well there you go. Look for the MDF alums Blood Duster to release a new "5 song download through all the usual channels", the SVCK EP which comes out the same day (11/1) as their unplayable full-length, KVLT. I guess.

Check out some video of Blood Duster destroying the vinyl master of KVLT below, along with some other jams by the death metal/grind crew.

in other words: we rip you off by making you buy something useless
i guess serves them well, for those who listen to this garbage rightly deserve this

I wish MC HAMMER would take this approach.

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 1:52 PM

Thanks for making an album nobody can listen to.

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 1:55 PM

Authentic, relevant.

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:00 PM

Wow, what a dumb band.

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:02 PM

who cares

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:02 PM

"by making you buy something useless"

yeah, they are really making anyone do anything.

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:02 PM

dumbest idea ever.

just really dumb.

I'm still in queue for Kraftwerk tickets - should I refresh and risk losing my place in line or just keep waiting?

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:08 PM

crybabies

music : internet = books : library

grow up and be good enough so people will want to see you live

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:12 PM

They should at least include edible Hummus with the record if you can't play it.

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:16 PM

2:12

1) your logic is flawed

2) Blood Duster sells out their shows

3) who is crying besides you?

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:16 PM

This amp goes up to 11.

Q - Why not just make 10 louder?

A - But I said this one goes up to 11.

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:17 PM

stupidest marketing gimmick ever.

surpassed in stupidity only, perhaps, by those stupid enough to buy it.

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:20 PM

Q-Are we not men?

A-We are Devo.

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:22 PM

Yes, the model has changed. Bands issue records to promote their shows (really just the Gtateful Dead model). These guys know that non fans are unlikely to hear the music and go to the show. Folks are more likely to see the show after hearing about the trashed master. Commercial geniuses...

This is hilarious

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:32 PM

Pitchfork will still give it an 8.5

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:34 PM

That's not the real master in the video. They're gonna re-release this in a limited edition box set a year from now. Trust me, I know.

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:36 PM

this would be annoying if i remotely wanted to listen to this. this band is awful.

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:41 PM

Who?

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:49 PM

"Nigel Tufnel: It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black"

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 2:56 PM

They stole my idea.

"The band have even taken the extreme step of destroying the masters so there is no chance of it ever mysteriously turning up on the net, no super fan ever getting that one copy"

Spinal Tap?

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 3:03 PM

i heard they just spilled bongwater on the board while mixing it, fried the whole system. FAIL

Fuck yes! All hail the 3-oh 7-oh.

Posted by Old Boots | October 22, 2012 3:49 PM

This band isn't anywhere nearly good enough to do this without just looking like massively arrogant imbeciles.

They sound like fucking teenagers in their thought process to destroy their album, except teens have made better death-grind than this.
"Piss Stomper"? Laughable.
If you truly make music only for yourself, then don't publicize your existence.

No one buys your shit in record stores because you suck, dudes. Plenty of people buy physical media for GOOD metal albums.

Posted by Anonymous | October 22, 2012 4:33 PM

Yes 3:04 PM just keep putting your metal event up over and over again.

If a sausage slides into the glory hole, and there is no one there to revieve him; did it really happen?

Posted by Anonymous | October 23, 2012 12:46 AM

They didn't have to scratch the record to make it unlistenable. the recording alone did that.

Posted by Anonymous | October 25, 2012 10:09 AM

Your ideas was totally easy to get. Happy to find that there’s an person online that gets it precise what its is talking about.

Theres about maybe 10 interesting metal bands who have been around for a while out 10,000 or so that pop up every 50 mints lately.

People want to support the artists but what's the point when it barely goes to them?
