Garbage / Screaming Females at Palladium 10/2/2012

As mentioned, Screaming Females are currently on the road supporting Garbage, and while that's a double bill we'd love to see, unfortunately the tour doesn't pass through NYC. We did manage to catch the bands in LA though, and a set of pictures from their show at Hollywood Palladium on Tuesday (10/2) are in this post. This review is from their San Francisco show, which happened one day earlier (10/1):

Last night, the band was in hit mode. We got a setlist packed with Garbage's first-, second-, and third-tier singles, plus a few new songs, all delivered with remarkable energy. The setlist included all the tunes above, plus "I Think I'm Paranoid," "#1 Crush," "Milk," "Push It," "Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go)" and more. Of the big favorites the highlight was doubtless "I'm Only Happy When It Rains": It began with as a quiet string interlude from a synthesizer and a whisper from Manson, and climaxed in a massive singalong, with fans shouting and waving their arms all the way up to the rafters, leaving Manson beaming onstage. The song's subtle blend of programmed percussion and rock muscle -- led by Manson's charming villainy -- still make it this band's best achievement.

...

The contrast was striking: Screaming Females offered no production, no visual spectacle other than the members' whip-sharp performances, no sound from anything other than what instruments they held onstage -- and they were incredible. Like, devastating: Singer Marissa Paternoster's guitar alternately spat out Sabbathy sludge and flashy solos, all with a possessed energy, and all three members seemed mentally locked-in, dialing back their eruptions on a dime and launching back into the assault just as quickly. They evoked the another legacy of '90s alt: the invincibility and sheer joy of fearless, voracious, category-defying rock 'n' roll. And with a thrilling opening set last night, they also made Garbage's job quite a bit more difficult. [SF Weekly]

Garbage was here back in May to play Webster Hall and they haven't announced plans to return. Screaming Females, meanwhile, who live in the area, are going on an east coast tour with Black Wine in November which hits Maxwell's on November 11 (tickets).

Garbage also played Jimmy Kimmel last night and video of "Control" and "Blood for Poppies" from that are below, along with more pics (including one of the setlist) from the LA show are below.
