Radiohead

This is surely old "news" to many (by the way, Ultraista play LPR Wednesday), but I never tried it until this new Buzzfeed article which says:

Oh, that wacky Thom Yorke. When he isn't staring joylessly into rainy window panes, there's a chance the rascally Radiohead frontman is plotting out decade-spanning musical projects meant to blow your feeble human mind. As most diehard Radiohead fans (Radiohead-heads?) could tell you, there was a strong overarching theme of "tens" surrounding the band's 2007 release, "In Rainbows" -- it was announced ten days before release, there are ten letters in the title -- capped off by the fact that it came out ten years after another of the group's landmark albums, 1997's "OK Computer," another title with exactly ten letters. So what does any of this mean, exactly? When shuffled together with a ten-second crossfade between tracks, the albums go really, really well together. A bit too well, actually, like they're two halves of one big, beautiful whole. For extra mind-boggle-ocity, the two titles, when combined, leave us with this clever anagram:

"Combination Super Work"

Far-reaching fan conspiracy theory or meticulously plotted masterwork? The world may never know.

Try it for yourself, all 1:32:48 of it, below...

Slow hummus day?

Posted by Anonymous | October 23, 2012 8:45 PM

No. Postponing Exit Music (For A Film) after Subterranean Homesick Alien is as jarring and wrong as breaking up the abbey road medley, and Nude doesn't even begin to work there.

Still makes a good tuesday night listen though.

This is some nerdy shit. I guess every generation needs their Dark Side of the Rainbow bullshit.

Radiohead is the sort of dopily dissonant, synth-mashing, warbling, British crap that passes for cutting edge these days. Their Internet fans are legion, their pretentious and egotistically dull albums continue to sell, and the people who malign the good name of critics by calling themselves as much incessantly drool over Radiohead like they've got platinum bars shooting out of their jocks.

Dr. David, may fate bring you to examine whatever is shooting out of their jocks or anyone else's for that matter.

You made some good points there. I looked on the web for more info about the issue and found most individuals will go along with your views on this site.

I love radio head.

I'm not trying to say it doesn't work and this is wrong, if anything it is only more testament to the production genius of it, but if you found yourself at all underwhelmed by this; Humor me, if you will.

1) start with the playlist as stated here and basically everywhere else on Internet.

2) flip all the 'In Rainbows' tracks positions (that is, arrange them from last to first instead of first to last).

3) [personal preference] start the show with "Fitter Happier", move it from its center position up to the top.

4) maintain the recommended 10 sec crossfade.

The list will look like this:

1. Fitter Happier
2. Airbag
3. Videotape
4. Paranoid Android
5. Jigsaw Falling Into Place
6. Subterranean Homesick Alien
7. House Of Cards
8. Exit Music (For A Film)
9. Reckoner
10.Let Down
11.Faust Arp
12.Karma Police
13.All I Need
14.Electioneering
15.Weird Fishes/Arpeggi
16.Climbing Up The Walls
17.Nude
18.No Surprises
19.Bodysnatchers
20.Lucky
21.15 Step
22.The Tourist

5) listen.

6) clean up after yourself.

On second thought, that is exactly what I'm trying to say. Whomsoever slapped together this lazy, unimaginative hodgepodge, or helped its proliferation: Thanks for helping to discredit every effort the band made in creating it.

So, mix a great album with a boring electronica-sounding bullshit album, and you get... a great album interspersed with boring electronica-sounding bullshit.
