Passion Pit @ BrooklynVegan CMJ showcase 2008 (more by Kyle Dean Reinford)
Passion Pit

Passion Pit, who just played Saturday Night Live, just announced they'll headline Madison Square Garden on February 8 with openers Matt & Kim. Tickets go on sale Friday (10/19) at noon. Pretty amazing they were playing Pianos just four years ago. Updated Passion Pit dates are listed below.

Meanwhile, some of you may have noticed Ayad Al Adhamy is no longer in Passion Pit, deciding instead to focus soley on his group Team Spirit. The band have signed to Vice & Warner Brothers and NYC will have a bunch of chances to see them this week during CMJ, including the Banners showcase at Pianos tonight (10/16); the NYC Taper day party at Pianos on Wednesday (10/17); the Noisey CMJ showcase at Santos later Wednesday night; and the Fuzz showcase at the Swat Bar on Saturday (10/19). They've also got a few dates with White Denim and Maps and Atlases and their full tour schedule is listed below, along with a stream of their EP from earlier in the year.

Cue all the people saying this will be half-empty.

With Matt & Kim playing with them and the fact that it's on a Fri, they should be fine.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:28 PM

Good luck selling enough tickets to that one!

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:28 PM

Yikes

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:31 PM

Gross.

Posted by MC Young Elder | October 16, 2012 12:31 PM

Good for them! Like Janis said "Get it while you can"

This seems ambitious.

yawn

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:33 PM

isn't this guy supposed to be busy being mentally deranged or something

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:37 PM

Glasslands, 2008. Capacity: 300
MSG 2013, 2013. Capacity: 18,200

That's 3,580 tweens / yr!

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:38 PM

why?

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:39 PM

I'm sure people will go but I've never been impressed with these guys live.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:40 PM

Why?

"Cue all the people saying this will be half-empty.

Another BV know nothing. This will be the same thing as the Interpol/Cat Power show at MSG a few years ago. All the idiots on here went on and on telling everyone the show would be easily sold out. In fact Bowery had to add another band and the show was still half empty. A total embarrassment.

Here we go again in 2012

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:48 PM

wow. first sign of the apocalypse. they are truly terrible live. that falsetto thing gets old after 10 minutes.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:50 PM

yah some of the songs are catchy but the singer is near tone deaf honestly.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:52 PM

I love how bands play 9:30 club then MSG on the same tour!?

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:52 PM

are you fucking kidding me?? wow, this is definitely a sign of the apocalypse.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:56 PM

Saw them open for Broken Social Scene for free just a few years ago. Is this real life?

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:56 PM

^ that's because DC is a shithole wholly devoid of culture. not difficult to understand.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 12:58 PM

^Ok..how about they are playing Lupo's on the same tour as MSG! Better?

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:00 PM

thought they would reschedule Apollo!

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:01 PM

Half empty

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:01 PM

half full! Pessimist! If Passion Pit can play MSG Blur surely can!

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:03 PM

"Another BV know nothing. This will be the same thing as the Interpol/Cat Power show at MSG a few years ago. All the idiots on here went on and on telling everyone the show would be easily sold out. In fact Bowery had to add another band and the show was still half empty. A total embarrassment."

Nah, PP have much more cross-over appeal than Interpol.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:05 PM

truthfully, they don't deserve to be on that stage

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:07 PM

Look! It's booger from Revenge of the Nerds!
We've got bush!

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:10 PM

pretty ridiculous. they're gonna need to pull a phoenix to make this show anything but a disaster. is daft punk available that night?

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:10 PM

"Nah, PP have much more cross-over appeal than Interpol."

Very wrong. Show will not be close to sold out although I expect to see Bowery Presents funny stuff helped along by blogs like this.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:12 PM

Not to mention they only have two albums. What are they going to play, 75 minutes?

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:15 PM

The lead singer of this band is such a douche-bag. Hopefully he doesn't kill himself before he has to play for a half empty MSG.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:17 PM

ricktatorship!

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:17 PM

Are they fun? Yeah. Are they good? Sure. But are they as good as they used to be? Based on the new album, no. Is it probably too big for them? Yeah. But who cares.

If you don't want to go, then don't go, and stfu. The end.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:21 PM

1:15 Rolling Stones play a 19 song set...Passion Pit could too

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:23 PM

there'll defintitely be a point in time where this show is 'sold out' in the BP sense of the word(s), but this show will be very empty. it just doesn't make sense, honestly.

i would've said three nights at T5 at the most for PP, maybe 2 shows at radio city. but this show isn't good for anyone - no one wants to see a band like passion pit play a half-empty venue 5x too big for them, there's zero advantage.

kind of a dick move on passion pit's part since they blatantly just wanna say that they played MSG or some shit; i hope they at least have something special planned.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:24 PM

^If I were them I would do the same..strike while the iron is hot. Their album debuted at #4 too...

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:28 PM

they sold out three nights at the 9:30 club in Washington - capacity 1,200

and now they think they can sell 18,000 tix in NYC???

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:29 PM

i hope 1:23 is being sarcastic comparing the rolling stones to passion pit

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:36 PM

they totally ripped their new tune from this:

Posted by arteest | October 16, 2012 1:40 PM

1:36..all I was saying doesn't matter how many albums you have...many bands headline arenas with short sets

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:45 PM

$50?!

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:48 PM

These guys suck. So fucking corny. That SNL performance was shit.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:48 PM

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:49 PM

They will put Local Natives in the bill and this shit will be sold out....

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:59 PM

congrats, PP!

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 1:59 PM

Ha ha 1:59! True!

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 2:02 PM

I got to PP now!

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 2:24 PM

I don't like the faces that this guys does when he plays the keyboards and he's a bit tubby. We'll need Local Natives in this bill (and possibly Shitus Andronicus too).

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 2:25 PM

This simply boggles my mind.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 2:26 PM

MSG is some weird flagship venue for bands who cant come close to selling arena numbers. Even with thousands of label/band/media comps this won't sellout.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 2:42 PM

this band should not be playing MSG. bowery presents will of course do dirty tricks again.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 2:51 PM

PP at MSG most ridiculous thing I've heard all week.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 4:04 PM

Bowery will pretend it's sold out as usual. Then all the high school kids will get excited about not being able to see Passion Pit, thus driving up demand and actually making it sold out when they release tickets to the brokers and through TM at the last minute.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 4:45 PM

Matt & Kim add potentially about an extra 500 fans to the audience.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 4:46 PM

i wrote a really insightful comment, but bv censored it. i find that my comments get censored a lot, but i don't use any of the stupid catch words that are probably blacklisted (the asian guy who played for the knicks, the band who wrote that song about two princes, etc). wtf?

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 4:54 PM

Mi scappa la PP, papa.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 4:55 PM

the asian guy who played for the knicks

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 5:04 PM

I'm going to buy floor tickets to this show, show up on time, watch the first Matt & Kim song, and then "take a walk" right out the fucking door.

Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2012 5:33 PM

Major mistake. They'll be forgotten by the end of the year. When February comes it will be Passion who? Even Radio City would have been ambitious.

Posted by Bubba | October 18, 2012 10:42 AM

I see the "asian chick in the band" gimmick hasn't run its course yet.

Posted by Veiled Clothing | November 22, 2012 6:11 PM

the festival loses tons of appeal if they leave the polo grounds. the venue is why most people go!
