Kraftwerk at MoMA in April (more by Greg Cristman)

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2013 nominees: The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Albert King, Kraftwerk, The Marvelettes, The Meters, Randy Newman, NWA, Procol Harum, Public Enemy, Rush, and Donna Summer.
For the first time in its history, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will offer fans the opportunity to officially participate in the induction selection process. Beginning on Thursday, October 4 and continuing through December 5, the public can vote for the five nominees they believe to be most deserving of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a "fans' ballot" that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2013 inductees. The Induction Ceremony will take place at Nokia Theatre in LA on April 18, 2013 and will air on HBO.

who cares? all these bands suck, except Rush.

Waste of Time and Money
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 11:00 AM
The Marvelettes and Joan Jett should definitely be in there.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 11:03 AM
RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 11:07 AM
Rush sucks.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 11:11 AM
rush is easily the most horrible band that's ever existed. i'm not trying to be disagreeable here. it's just a fact.
in general, prog rock (yes, rush, elp, genesis, etc.) sucks the big one.
but rush are the most embarrasing.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 11:15 AM
I never defined Kraftwerk as rock n' roll before.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 11:15 AM

if kraftwerk tours and I see them...I be happy with that
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 11:22 AM
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...what a joke. What's gonna happen when all of these boomers finally kick the bucket?
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 12:04 PM
11:15: Most hipsters don't like prog rock in general, so it's not too surprising to see a comment like yours.
10:56 is correct.
Either way, these are just nominations, not inductees yet. Still a long way to go.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 12:10 PM
every band is great except for rush.

"rush is easily the most horrible band that's ever existed. i'm not trying to be disagreeable here. it's just a fact."
Your knowledge of music is embarrassing at best. It's just a fact.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 12:49 PM
theory: the induction event is in LA on the thursday between coachellas. maybe some convenient scheduling for kraftwerk to play coachella and attend the ceremony? (assuming they are inducted)
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 12:50 PM
Public Enemy, NWA, fine artists. Ditto Miles Davis, etc.
But this is not rock 'n' roll. They have no business in the Hall.
But really, who cares about the RNRHOF, anyway? #irrelevance
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 1:02 PM
Wait...Deep Purple sucks too? The opinions of you pathetic a-holes never ceases to amaze.

Don't think I know anything about Butterfield, Albert King, marvelettes, meters, or procul harum
chic i only know 'good times' and fucking love that song 'and roller skates, roller skates!'
Joan Jett is whatever to me, ok you're a tough rock chick, go smoke a cigarette behind the bowling alley
Heart sings barracuda? Maybe they merge with Joan Jett and do some big rock chick thing
Rush is cool, I have 2012, fucking rock opera ok
NWA and Public Enemy - I kind of know the difference between these 2 bands, but think they're the same thing anyway, what would easy e do (wweed)?
Donna Summer is disco I think
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 1:31 PM
Oh yeah I like kraftwerk, trans europe express is cool, i play man machine before i play ping pong with my wife
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 1:32 PM
Drop the RnR from name of Fame.

1:31's comment is the perfect embodiment of what the readership of this blog has become. So fucking sad.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 1:59 PM
1:59 is 1:31 trolling himself.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 2:07 PM
Well at least you can take warmth in the fact that really stupid people have been here from the start and still remain. Case in point, idiot 2:07
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 2:12 PM
Hey, I'm just glad Bon Jovi didn't get a nomination this year.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 2:20 PM
I know this isn't the Disco Hall of Fame, but Donna Summer will get the sympathy/dead person nomination. And Chic was a legit band. Very underrated.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 2:22 PM
Funky Meters!!
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 2:23 PM
1:59, if it's so sad then cry about it dingledog, I don't know every band ever :0 so sue me cranky-pants - send correspondence to Van Cankles, Da White House, 1600 PA Ave., D.C.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 2:23 PM
KISS sucks, but they should be nominated and they are always ignored. Say what you will, but they influenced what arena rock has become. There's no denying their influence on rock.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 2:24 PM
Joan Jett, Newman, NWA, PE and Rush are shoe-ins, along with the family of Donna Summer to accept her award.
I am not a fan of Rush, but these are the only folks that would make for a good 2 hour HBO special ratings wise. Also, since I always see Rush touring with Yes, perhaps their could be a two-for-one clause written into the ceremony.
Are the Wilbury's in yet?
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 2:27 PM
Thanks 1:31/2:23,
At least it gives some satisfaction to know that not only are you lacking musical knowledge but you also are not clever, funny or intelligent to boot.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 2:30 PM
I should rephrase...Wilbury's would have been eligible this year, correct?
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 2:31 PM
Chic is cool and all but not rock n roll. Why not just be "Post-1964 Popular Music Hall of Fame?"
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 2:42 PM
I think all these nominees are legit but I'm still waiting for a first time nomination for the Shangri-Las, Joy Division, and T. Rex.
Other previous nominees that are worthy but seem to have fallen off the radar include the New York Dolls, MC5 and Gram Parsons.
I'm also thankful that Bon Jovi, Yes and the Moody Blues weren't nominated.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 2:50 PM
It's likely that Rush will ultimately not get accepted into the HOF. I love Rush, but snobby rock critics and music snobs in general do not, because they're prog. They're lucky they got nominated in the first place.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 4:49 PM
No KISS or Jandek = Hall Of Bullshit
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 7:46 PM
All good bands, great list.
I want to like Rush, but can't stand Geddy's singing, and I like "bad" singers like Neil Young and Isaac Brock.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 8:06 PM
NWA?! Well, those niggers DID have attitude.
Heart, Joan Jett, Randy-fucking-Newman...but no Dolls? Right.
Donna Summer = homophobe.
As a (former?) fan of the band for thirty-seven years - FUCK Kraftwerk (and MOMA).
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 11:11 PM
The actual best bands here, musician-wise, are The Meters and Chic. Neither of whom played rock and roll but whatever.
Rush's Randian bullshit should never be allowed anywhere.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 11:22 PM
Jesus Christ with a popsicle.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2012 11:32 PM
Rush should of been in long ago. One of the best drummers and bass players to ever live in the same band. Hands down the vote for this years class.
Posted by Anonymous | October 5, 2012 8:44 AM
You "should of" paid attention in school

I, like Rush, could care less about the Hall of Fame. Rush is on a totally different level than many other bands anyway. It is amazing that people on this site could say bad things about Rush. Rush is not for everyone and I don't mean that in a sarcastic or condescending way, so if you don't like it, fine. But you cannot ignore the success and the dedicated fans Rush has amassed all over the world. The only other band that comes close is Iron Maiden, whom I am also a big fan. So keep on playing Rush. And BTW, you guys rocked at the Prudential center on October 20th. Keep up the great, and never duplicated, work. Regards, Diehard Rush fan.
Posted by anonymous | October 22, 2012 3:07 PM
Linda Ronstadt should be number 1, not number 49.
I cannot believe she hasn't ever been nominated, let alone never inducted. And what about Heart, Stevie Nicks (solo), Carly Simon, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, and Donna Summer?
Why aren't more women from rock'n roll in the 1970s in the RRHOF? What's the story behind this?
Posted by get real | November 16, 2012 8:37 PM
All these Rush haters probably haven't heard their first album. And I dislike the proggy Rush stuff I've heard.
Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2012 1:50 AM
Joan Jett's music is iconic and after all these years she still sounds as good in concert as on any of her recordings. Her performance on Aug 9th 2012 in Brooklyn NY was one of the best I have seen.
I have seen many artists since the late 60's including Joplin, Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Stones etc, etc etc.
Joan Marie Larkin you still rock!
