CMJ starts to get really in the swing tonight, with lots of good options. Toronto's awesome METZ were just added to tonight's Death by Audio bill that also features Roomrunner, Die Die Die and Beasty. $7 at the door.

It's also the debut of UK act Savages tonight at Glasslands as part of Stereogum's showcase that also has Dum Dum Girls, Guards and more. You can probably still RSVP (you'll still need to pay $5 at the door) though this will be a hot show so you may want to get there early (doors at 8:15 PM). If you don't go to Glasslands tonight, Savages will play our free day party on Friday at Public Assembly.

In non-CMJ news, Ty Segall tore it up on Conan last night. Check out his performance of "Thank God for Sinners" below.

CMJ is especially bad this year. The same fucking bands playing every showcase.

Can you get into the Crosby Stills and Nash show with a CMJ Badge

What time did Fiona go on last night?

I don't understand the whole CMJ hoopla. There just seems to be a lot of shows that happen to be playing in NYC around this time of year. Are they there BECAUSE of the CMJ sponsoring, or do they just happen to be playing there anyway regardless of whether or not it's supposedly "CMJ sponsored"? Because it seems like any music or music-related event that happens in NYC for the 4-5 days gets the CMJ tag on it no matter what.

3:16 - I think it's somewhere in between. NYC has more shows in any given night than almost any other American city to begin with. Plus, everyone knows that people will be even more apt to go out and see bands during the week that CMJ designates as their Festival dates, so they plan even more shows to coincide with those dates...whether officially sanctioned by CMJ or not. It's sorta like a snowball effect. Add corporate sponsored events on top of that and you've got a (un)happy shit show. Whatevs...just go out, get wasted and see some music.

Is there any remaining way for a person to get into LPR tonight?

Posted by Anonymous | October 17, 2012 3:40 PM

3:26: Thanks for the explanation. I was just curious about it. I certainly will do those three things that I had planned anyway, haha.

CMJ is bad? Find some friends and go wander around from 11am - 4am and drink whiskey and listen to bands. Some are good, some are terrible. Some are boring, some are exciting. Most of the shows and booze are cheap or free. You have to put in a great deal of effort to NOT have a good time doing that.

OK...that Ty Segall performance does rip, broken guitar strap and all.
