Animal Collective

As mentioned, Animal Collective are playing two nights at Terminal 5 (12/4-5) to make up for their cancelled Williamsburg Park show. The first night (12/4) is with Traxman, and no opener has been announced yet for the second night. Tickets for both shows are still available and a portion of the proceeds will go to The American Red Cross to help Hurricane Sandy relief.

Like Amanda Palmer, Animal Collective just spoke to us about their top 10 things of 2012, some of which were albums, like the one by their tourmates Micachu & The Shapes and the new Madlib-produced Georgia Anne Muldrow album, whereas other things on the list were restaurants they had memorable dinners at and British sketch comedy shows. You can check out the whole thing below.

---

truth... this was not their best year by a longshot.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 11:21 AM

They have always been a boring, bad live act. Great on record though.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 11:25 AM

this is a perfect example of how awful T5 is to get to from Brooklyn. T5 is built for jersey kids to cab there after taking NJ transit to penn station. Clearly anco is not big with the suburban jersey kids. love anco and want to attend this show but still hesitant to get tix b/c of how awful t5 is.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 11:32 AM

all your opinions matter so much to me, so i'm not going to go this show anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 11:43 AM

A boring live act with an album not on any best of lists playing at the worst venue in the world. I feel so stupid, what was I thinking about?

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 11:47 AM

what a hipster list hahahahaha, it's like they are trying to find stuff that you've never heard of

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 11:48 AM

1132 you forgot about long island! But yes can we start a kickstarter campaign to build another venue in NYC that will be better than T5?

Posted by Takk | November 29, 2012 11:48 AM

I'm only interested in Grizzly Bear's ironic (?) best of list consisting solely of black pop tarts.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 11:55 AM

I didn't think it was possible, but after reading that list I hate them even more.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 12:18 PM

I love when bands submit their "best of" lists and they include restaurants and tv shows. That's really impressive and so different.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 12:19 PM

amazing that someone complains about going to NYC from brooklyn...

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 12:38 PM

They haven't "fallen". The new album is really good if you like Animal Collective. If you don't like them, then don't buy it.
The only difference is that the Pitchfork/Stereogum hype machine has moved on. The lemmings are following some other flavor of the month. Meanwhile, AC has its fan base intact and seem to be doing just fine, thank you.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 12:41 PM

Brooklyn is NYC dumbass 12:38. If you lived in NYC you'd know that.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 12:42 PM

People that complain about getting to T5 are people that haven't lived in New York very long. Real New Yorkers never bitch about walking a few blocks. Real New Yorkers save their exasperation for real threats like the crazy guy with the kitchen knife walking toward you on the subway, or idiot Islamofascists flying planes into buildings. Walking a few blocks? Go back to Iowa, hipster.

Neil Young >>>>>>> Animal Collective

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 1:08 PM

^ bowery presents employee

i've lived in NYC my entire life, and the walk to Terminal 5 from the nearest subway is pretty annoying.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 1:08 PM

Remember when people cared about Animal Collective?

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 1:08 PM

1:09 I call bullshit on that, and on you

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 1:18 PM

Terminal 5 is probably the shittiest venue I have ever been to.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 1:19 PM

Yeah, like me.

The new album is great btw. But yes this terminal 5 idea was a bad call all around

12:41 knows

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 1:24 PM

what ever happened with that kickstarter vacation fund thing?

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 1:24 PM

T5 is fine, so long as you are > 6' tall, and get there early enough to get a good spot. If you are a dickwad show up at 5 min before curtain and expect to get pure sightlines you should stop typing and go buy a gun and shoot yourself in the face

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 1:25 PM

missing Deakin's african safarri adventure money pit.

Posted by son | November 29, 2012 1:28 PM

Third Eye Blind >>>>> Animal Collective

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 1:54 PM

AC's legit. Their last time at Terminal 5 was actually legit

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 1:55 PM

Third Eye Blind is also legit

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 1:58 PM

Boring band all around

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:01 PM

Season 3 of Louie was cool.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:02 PM

in 2002 Sigur Ros was the big thing. In 2007, Animal Collective was the big thing. In 2011 it was The xx. Who is it gonna be in 2013? Jake Bugg? Miles Kane? Tame Impala? Beady Eye?

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:03 PM

All around the world, you gotta spread the word, you know it's gonna be okay.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:05 PM

you'd rather see third eye blind than ac ;/

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:16 PM

i would actually totally pay $15 to see third eye blind. not so much for the ol ac

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:17 PM

Third Eye Blind's self titled LP from 1997 is better than anything ac has ever done

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:20 PM

Everybody was rocking to the song Jumper in high school, circa 1997.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:21 PM

+1 on the 3rdEB

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:21 PM

what if you smoked weed before

i used to dig teb back in the day but havent heard their new stuff

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:22 PM

AC has a lot more material than teb

teb may have a solid cd but that doesnt compare to 5 or 6 cds with solid songs on them

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:29 PM

Third Eye Blind's second albu, Blue, is CRIMINALLY underrated. It is nothing but tune after tune after tune. This a can't miss band Live.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:33 PM

TEB has one, if not two legendary records. AC has 0. So yeah, TEB 4 THE WIN

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 2:45 PM

To the next step!

Posted by american pie..end of movie | November 29, 2012 3:00 PM

My Third Eye Blind best of album would include:

1. Narcolepsy
2. semi-Charmed Life
3. Jumper
4. Graduate
5. How's It Going To Be
6. Motorcycle Drive By
7. Anything
8. Wounded
9. 10 Days Late
10. Never Let You Go
11. Deep Inside of You
12. Slow Motion
13. Blinded
14. Crystal Baller
15. Don't Believe A Word

You put this CD on at a party and it won't stop rocking till the break of dawn.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 3:01 PM

3:01

You can't make a 3EB best of and not include "1000 Julys". That is just down right foolish! Boy do I miss 1998.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 3:05 PM

No joke...the song 'Wounded' is a great written song about domestic abuse.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 3:07 PM

@3:01 now THAT's a rocking party!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 3:09 PM

the only way to truly prove one band's superiority over another is a streetfight between a third eye blind fan versus an animal collective fan

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 3:14 PM

P U S S Y F I G H T ! ! ! ! ! !

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 3:17 PM

I lost my virginity to my girlfriend Cindy after a third eye blind concert in the fall of 1997. I will always love this band.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 3:17 PM

3:14

No contest....3EB fan kills a nerdy AC fan.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 3:18 PM

3:17 was 42 years old in 1997. Cindy is made of plastic.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 3:26 PM

Animal Collective...it's just noise.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 3:37 PM

One of the best bands I've seen, they play Prospect Park better than anyone. T5 is not for them, and a shame this is where they chose to play their makeup gig for Williamsburg.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 3:48 PM

WOW....Stephen Jenkins dated (fucked) Charlize Theron. Hats off my dude!

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 4:06 PM

One of the best concerts I have ever been to was third eye blind, summer 2000, PNC Bank Art Center. The lineup was: Third Eye Blind, Vertical Horizon and Nine Days. You couldn't tailgate. Too many good bands. Had to go in early.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 4:13 PM

Still love them. Pissed at Deak still.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 4:21 PM

AC's Fireworks barely beats 3EB's Slow Motion for track of the century.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 4:23 PM

Who is Third Eye Blind?

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 4:28 PM

Is Animal Collective what Noah called the animals he put on the ark?

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 4:36 PM

Kudos to the guy who posted 13 individual third eye blind jokes. We're all rooting for ya, brah!

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 4:39 PM

If you ever listened (happily) to 3EB, you might be a fucking retard with absolutely the worst taste in music in recorded history and you shouldn't ever post comments on BV because your opinions are informed by shit. Thank you.

Posted by the management | November 29, 2012 4:55 PM

i haven't listened to third eye blind in a loooong time. gonna have to give em a spin tonight!!

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 5:42 PM

AC have yet to write a song half as good as Graduate

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 5:43 PM

@4:55

I love 3EB and have EXCELLENT taste in music and probably know more about contemporary music across all genres in addition to ethno-out music blah blah blah blah blah than you. SO THERE!

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 5:53 PM

It is no surprise people on this blog like 3EB. Most readers are in their late 20s, early 30s, which puts them as teenagers when 3EB were huge in the late 90s. We all listened to that shit back in high school. So don't all you now act "too cool for school". #Bitches!

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 5:53 PM

@5:53 lol! busted!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 5:54 PM

Come on...who didn't get handjobs, blowjobs and get laid listening to Graduate, Jumper, Semi-Charmed Life. Panties were dropping in high school because of these guys. I thank them. They were like what Duran Duran was for kids in the 80s.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 5:56 PM

I always wondered why Oasis dominated America between 1995-1997. Looking back I figured it out. America had no good bands at the time. Third Eye Blind, Dave Matthews, Hootie and the Blowfish, Alive, Better Than Ezra, oh geez what shit! Game set match for those Gallagher brothers.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 6:05 PM

Merriweather Post Pavillian was an amazing album.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 6:12 PM

I really need to stop reading the comments section of this site. Third Eye Blind? Seriously?

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 6:16 PM

11:32 - here is your wake up call. We Manhatanites actually prefer anybody - yes even Jerseyites - over Brooklyn hipsters. You were not even born there, so stop it with the BK pride thing.

You have ruined the fine borough of Breuklyn, so stay out of our fine borough. You may, however, look at us from across the East River

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 6:20 PM

11:32....................Good point!

Neil Young has a sticker on his guitar that says "THIS MACHINE KILLS HIPSTERS". He's speaking to you Williamsburg!

#JerseyStrong

I think it's safe to say this the most press third eye blind has seen in years and it happened in a BV comment section for Animal Collective.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 9:49 PM

Animal Collective have sucked for a while now. It's funny how people say they like them still.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 9:58 PM

Tame Impala is the new Animal Collective. Just wait until Pitchfork names Lonerism their #1 album of the year.

Posted by Anonymous | November 29, 2012 10:04 PM

Third Eye Blind is suburban mall rock with no discernible identity. Animal Collective is just plain pretentious. Pick your poison...

Third Eye Blind at the Barclays!!!!! YES!

I hope these 120+ comments only help to inspire AC to sample a 3EB song on their next album. This blog would self-destruct in excitement. Please AC, let someone from your band sees these comments!

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2012 10:43 AM

the only problem with that would be the fact that a snoozer of a band would be sampling a shining star of a band, which is not cool imo

Stephen Jenkins is the John Lennon for his times.

Posted by Anonymous | November 30, 2012 10:49 AM

My high school freshman year english teacher, said Jenkins reminded him of a young Bruce Springsteen.

* Keep in mind this comment was made during the summer of 2000 off a critically acclaimed second album (Blue) and sold out US tour. 3eb could do no wrong during that summer.
