Code Orange Kids at Acheron, April 2012 (more by Rebecca Reed)
Code Orange Kids

Code Orange Kids have spent a lot of time on the road in 2012, but the Pittsburgh hardcore/grind quartet managed to make time in the studio too, as the'll soon releaseĀ Love Is Love // Return To Dust, the band's new Kurt-Ballou-produced LP due via Deathwish Inc on November 20. In all of their recent appearances (including our own SXSW day party), COK have shown tons of promise as a live band and Love mirrors those efforts. It's clear that the band grew up with Converge, but more importantly, Converge's sense of freedom to push boundaries. This is a young band, which makes Love Is Love // Return To Dust all the more compelling to listen to. Stream it in full below.

Code Orange Kids are teaming with another promising batch of young'ns, Full of Hell, as part of a string of dates with Gaza. The shows include an NYC stop at Acheron on 11/24. Tickets are still available.

Stream all of the band's LP and check out their new video for "Flowermouth (The Leech)" below.

Posted by rotto | November 2, 2012 3:02 PM

Decided not to wear a shirt all day because I'm so stoked for this album to hit.

Posted by MVLLET | November 2, 2012 3:12 PM

Posted by Anonymous | November 2, 2012 3:41 PM

Shit is amazing! Love the production as well.

So fucking good. I both love and hate the fact they are so young

Posted by Anonymous | November 2, 2012 10:01 PM

^ every reply has been from the band and/or deathwish records promoters

Posted by Anonymous | November 2, 2012 10:50 PM

It's an ok band. Nothing special. I honestly think they're really overhyped because of the fact that they're on Deathwish and they have a girl singing and playing guitar.

thank you to those of you who have listened so far we really appreciate it.

I've been a fan of this band for the last year and a half or so and after listening to this, I'm nothing short of jealous. I play in a Hardcore band in Pittsburgh, I've seen practically every local band to play here, and I have to say that nothing any of us have done compares to this. In fact, I have to say that this is, hands down, some of the best Hardcore out there. There's a lot of great Hardcore, but what they are doing is something so much greater. From their 2010 demo to this, every song has been genius in its own right. I wish these guys all the best and know that Sincerity Fest is going to destroy me for the best. Album kills.

i went to high school with these dudes and girl, and they are the most real down to earth people i've ever met, and they portray it through their music, if you can find me something more real and unique that's come out in the past 2 years go ahead and let me know, this shit crushes, i'm so proud of you jami eric reba and joe!

Posted by aj | November 3, 2012 2:39 PM

'bout time we stopped calling slow, Jesus Lizard-y moshmetal crap like this 'hardcore'.

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2012 2:48 PM

The important thing is to act like you do not care.
Be a total phony baloney.

^ And because they were recorded by Kurt Ballou.

Posted by Stephen | November 6, 2012 1:59 AM

I probably would've liked this more if it hadn't been accompanied by the dumb, Hot Topic-ready video (the Best Buy pop-up add was also appropriate). If something's basically Underoath, no point in being disingenuous and trying to spin as a more raw and honest alternative.

Posted by Querelle | November 6, 2012 2:03 AM

They seem like they're really cool, down to earth people, though. But to call them "the most unique and real hardcore out now" is bonkers. Who uses "real" as a term to describe a band, anyways? Get "real".

"And because they were recorded by Kurt Ballou."

I'm a Kurt Ballou fanboy but this recording was a little weak in terms of guitar tones. Real mushy and muddy. No punch to the guitars. Just lots of mids without bass or treble. GAZA, for me, is the best record that Kurt produced this year.

the songs are just part to part, doesn't flow at all.

waaaaah waaaaah waaaaaaah
