Pallbearer at Knitting Factory, September 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)
Pallbearer

Decibel Magazine has compiled their annual list of top 40 albums of the year. As usual, there are some surprises but the 2012 top ten is basically a list of nine veterans with only a single newcomer to the bunch. The full list of top records of the year according to Decibel Magazine is below, along with a tweet from the winning band. Buy your copy HERE.

I own 9 of those records.

Of those 9, I've listened to 5 more than once.

No UNSANE. >sigh<

I'm too old for this shit.

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 5:03 PM

Does anyone remember D???

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 5:09 PM

Don't make your list this early. Graveyard's new one easily one of the top 10 records of the year!

No Hexvessel, Horisont, Occultation? Agreed with choices 3-8

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 5:11 PM

Agreed, UNSANE needs to be on that list.

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 5:14 PM

baroness is soooooo bad...convinced they paid off people who reviewed the album

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 5:14 PM

I never gave two shits about Decibel, but at least SWANS are there.

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 5:20 PM

LOL @ Torche. LOL @ that!

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 5:20 PM

Oh my again. Swans are NOT a metal band at all!

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 5:28 PM

^ not in the standard sense, but were "metal" to have been used as an adjective, yes, very much "metal".

Decent list, although some slots are way off base in my opinion.

Metal bands all have hilarious names.

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 5:55 PM

Decibel is always on Baroness' and Converge's nutz.

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 6:03 PM

hmmm I like about 3 of these

Posted by gnarko | November 20, 2012 6:04 PM

Literally unbelievable anyone still cares about Pig Destroyer. Also, no Ash Borer?

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 6:16 PM

Koloss>>>>>>>>>>Yellow & Green

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 6:24 PM

How did they overlook Enter The Crypt Of Shit "Sausagecofagus" LP? Brutal fucking hell thrash!

Posted by Fabio | November 20, 2012 6:28 PM

When HIGH ON FIRE are at #19...
I cannot agree.

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 6:28 PM

What a shit rag.

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 6:38 PM

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 7:06 PM

Congrats Decibel for once again proving your utter uselessness.

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 7:32 PM

New Witchcraft Buh-lows.

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 7:39 PM

as usual... Suspicious omissions....

*Burning Love "rotten thing to say"
* OLD MAN GLOOM "No"

Should be on list

Posted by Johnson | November 20, 2012 8:50 PM

How does a life once lost get 29
And meshuggah get 39...!!???

Ecstatic trance is a total meshuggah rip-off...

Posted by Johnson | November 20, 2012 8:58 PM

Pallbearer should be #1 and is definitely better than that Evoken record, I own both.

Posted by Anonymous | November 21, 2012 1:20 AM

UNCLE ACID AND THE DEADBEATS is my #1.

Where is:

CANNIBAL CORPSE "Torture"
MARDUK "Serpent Sermon"

Posted by Anonymous | November 21, 2012 1:27 AM

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats came out in 2011
(also, it's crap)

Posted by gnarko | November 21, 2012 5:34 AM

Dawnbringer!!!

Posted by Anonymous | November 21, 2012 8:10 AM

ONLY FIVE RELAPSE TITLES MADE THIS LIST?!

Also Testament, LOL.

Posted by Anonymous | November 21, 2012 8:21 AM

Where is the new Old Man Gloom album?!?!?!

Posted by Anonymous | November 21, 2012 9:27 AM

Cooliopeth?

Posted by Anonymous | November 21, 2012 10:20 AM

Dawnbringer should have been ranked, considering that I think it's better than Nucleus (which was ranked two years ago). Don't think Pallbearer should have ranked as high as it did; I like the record just fine, but I didn't think it was exceptional…maybe my plebian ears are missing something. Happy that Samothrace made it on the list, and the Royal Thunder ranking is spot on.

Surprised by the lack of Ihsahn…normally Decibel is all over his jock.

Posted by alex! | November 21, 2012 10:47 AM

No Southern Lord titles made the list...

Posted by Anonymous | November 21, 2012 11:16 AM

Awesome! Everyone's rankings suck!

Posted by Anonymous | November 21, 2012 2:24 PM

I have never listened to one of my Pig Destroyer records EVER without having to listen to Napalm Death afterwards. EVER. Just sayin'.

Posted by Ranch hand for the Nuge | November 21, 2012 4:39 PM

Every album ever made > yellow and green
Such a huge disappointment since I loved Blue and Red and the EP's. Converge's latest was fine but I can't seem to bring myself to listen to it more than a couple of times. I liked the Neurosis album quite a bit but after seeing them live the other day, I like that album so much more after that experience. Samothrace, High on Fire, Pall Bearer, Ash Borer, The Body and the Melvins Lite were all in heavy rotation for me this year.

Posted by Occam's Blazer | November 23, 2012 4:49 AM

No Negative Plane? Ptahil? What a terrible list, Horrendous made the best album of the year by the way. Shame on decibel..

Posted by feltoj | November 23, 2012 11:00 PM

I cannot believe Converge is number 1. I love converge but i don't feel they're latest is album of the year. Def top 20

Posted by feltoj | November 23, 2012 11:06 PM

Yellow & Green is a phenomenal album! #1

Posted by Anonymous | December 6, 2012 4:23 AM

No Grand Magus? Surprised the new Witchcraft and Enslaved are ranked so high. I like both bands a lot but thought Legend only had a few good songs and Riitiir SUCKS compared to the last 4 Enslaveds!

Posted by Anonymous | December 6, 2012 5:33 PM

Gotta agree on Dawnbringer. EVERYONE I know who's opinion is worth a shit has been talking about it and Prof. Black never does any wrong. For that matter, where is Superchrist-Holy Shit?????

Posted by Anonymous | December 6, 2012 5:35 PM

Kreator?

Posted by Anonymous | December 7, 2012 10:36 AM

BLUT AUS NORD is the only band that matters anymore. BLUT AUS NORD make every other band/performer on this list look like teenagers with nothing new to say (except Neurosis, who are old dudes with nothing new to say).

BLUT AUS NORD
BLUT AUS NORD
BLUT AUS NORD
