Without the rhythm section, [Dirty Projectors'] meticulous vocal work was overwhelming. The songs seemed less tightly wound, voices filling up the tall room in a wash, punctuated only by the peculiar, skewed twang of Longstreth's guitar playing. The band skipped hits "Stillness Is the Move" and "Gun Has No Trigger." Instead, Swing Lo Magellan cuts like "See What She Seeing" and "Impregnable Question" stood out thanks to slower, more delicate interpretations. For the band's last song, Longstreth revived the title track from his 2007 Black Flag covers project, Rise Above. The song's opening lyrics evoked the spirit of the Occupy movement: "Jealous cowards try to control/ They distort what we say/ Try and stop what we do/ When they can't do it themselves." [Rolling Stone]
Dirty Projectors (David Longstreth, Amber Coffman and Haley Dekle), The Walkmen (Hamilton Leithauser, Walter Martin, and Peter Bauer), Cass McCombs, Devendra Banhart, Vampire Weekend, and Real Estate teamed up for a show of intimate acoustic sets at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn on Saturday (11/17). The show was a benefit for Occupy Sandy, where all proceeds were donated.

More pictures from the benefit are below.

That was one of the most boring concerts I have ever been to. Why can't the Occupy movement just go away

Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2012 9:43 AM

Way to complain about a movement while claiming to have just attended concert put on by said movement. You're either lying, an idiot, or both.

These guys need to put down the protest signs and guitars and get back to doing what they do best. Handing out bologna sandwiches.

^Nah, dude, you're just not funny. Personally I couldn't care less about the occupy movement. I'm just offended at your terrible sense of humor. Much like the rest of the people who read this site.
