Occupy Sandy throwing free party for volunteers; NY now also paying people to help cleanup

Occupy Sandy

Have you volunteered your time to Hurricane Sandy victims via Occupy Sandy? If so, don’t feel guilty about showing up at the Bell House in Brooklyn to party Wednesday night. All the information you need is in the flyer above. Still want to volunteer? Head to Occupy Sandy’s site to figure out how.

More into getting paid? New York State has received 27.7 million dollars in federal Disaster National Emergency Grant (NEG) funds that are being used to fund Sandy-related jobs:

The grant will be used to hire workers to help clean up communities affected by Hurricane Sandy in Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Orange, Putnam, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties.

Workers who lost their jobs as a direct result of Hurricane Sandy or workers who were unemployed prior to the storm are eligible to apply for temporary positions.

Head to the Department of Labor’s website for more info.
