Sigur Ros at Prospect Park in July (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Sigur Ros

SIgur Ros made a triumphant return this year after a four-year hiatus with a great new album, Valtari, and an equally great return to the live stage on their tour which brought them to Prospect Park in July. Now the band have announced that they'll be back in North America next year for their largest headlining tour to date, including what is by far their largest NYC show ever at Madison Square Garden on March 25, 2013! Tickets for the show go on sale Friday (11/16) at 9 AM with a fan presale starting Wednesday (11/14) at 10 AM. All dates on the tour, which looks like it might hit Coachella, are listed below.

Sigur Ros recently played a new song, "Brennisteinn," at Iceland Airwaves, which you can watch a video of below.

Meanwhile, Nowness also premiered a film for the title track off Valtari today (11/12) which you can watch below. It's part of the band's Mystery FIlm Experiment and was directed by Christian Larson with choreography by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

As mentioned, their Mystery Film Experiment is screening worldwide soon and NYC will get their screening on December 7-9 at TBA location. Tickets are still on sale, however.

A list of all dates and both of those videos are below.

Wow. I...guess they can play there?

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 12:56 PM

Oh come on, really? MSG?!? Are they just booking every damn semi-mainstream band that hipsters like at MSG now, regardless of how many seats they can actually fill?

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 12:57 PM

sigur ros did two celebrate brooklyn shows at about 8k/show. that equals msg. not saying this is an easy sell, but . . .

Posted by jan jansson | November 12, 2012 12:58 PM

^ they did one CB show. Maybe the mushrooms made it feel like two? Or you got bedazzled by that Perfumed Genius?

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 1:07 PM

^ whoops. you're correct . my bad. this show makes no sense. :)

1257 I know you just moved from Ohio but Sigur Ros has played Radio City, Theatre @ MSG, Beacon, Celebrate Brooklyn and etc. Basically every venue before bands get to play MSG. They've earned it. Who cares if it's going to be filled up or not.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 1:12 PM

12:57, why are you bothered by this? I can understand negativity towards bands like Passion Pit and the such , but Sigur Ros?? Really?! Incredibly talented band who continues to re-invent their sound over the years are finally playing MSG and you're unhappy about something?? Time to get over yourself and your ideas on how things "should be".

COUNTDOWN TILL THIS IS MOVED TO A SMALLER VENUE...

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 1:13 PM

who cares this is gonna be awesome

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 1:14 PM

"Who cares if it's going to be filled up or not."

I am going to take a wild guess and say THE BAND

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 1:15 PM

the last album was not very good. they will still sell this out.

Levon Helm is dead and nobody cares about Robbie Robertson's opinion! So there!

^ that's rich, daddy-o. tell us another, grandpa

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 1:23 PM

1:18 is available for weddings and bar mitzvahs

Sigur Ros can easily fill MSG - I've seen them at United Palace, Radio City, Beacon, etc. To be honest I'd prefer they play a smaller venue but they deserve all their big successes.

Posted by elvellon03 | November 12, 2012 1:26 PM

Love Sigur Ros..saw them also at Beacon, United, Cyclone with Bjork etc but MSG is nutty. Good news is I will get a $5 ticket day or show.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 1:34 PM

I bet they can fill ya sisters box

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 1:36 PM

Echoing other people, yes love the band and they deserve all the success but anyone thinking this will be sold out is a stupid clueless moron. Oh wait, we are in the comments section of BV, the home of the clueless ones. Forgot for a second.

Oh and unfortunately it is also going to sound like shit on a stick.

Wont beat the money I made at MOMA

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 1:53 PM

1257 and 146 = same kid who just moved from Ohio. Sorry buddy, you're dumb. Go away.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 1:55 PM

Ohio. A state that matters. Not just one stupid homogenous voice like the tri-state.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 2:11 PM

RIght 1:55pm, saying comments that you don't like all come from the same person certainly makes you a genius.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 2:26 PM

"Good news is I will get a $5 ticket day or show."

I got a free ticket when they played the Theatre since no one was buying. Had to sell at a big discount a ticket when they first played the Beacon (granted, that was a decade ago and they are now more popular).

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 2:38 PM

I bought a pair of front row tickets on ebay at Beacon for $15 a ticket during the takk tour. The seller also sent me a free pair of tickets in the 3rd row that he couldn't sell. The guy was a seller from Seattle.

It makes me so happy to hear that people like that lose money.

I know they have a lot of fans that will pay a lot to see them play but they've always played really nice venues, they never really had to rely on the kids from the suburbs because they had enough rich NY area folks to fill those other venues.. top sell MSG I think they need the kids from the suburbs taking NJ transit.. not sure if they'll get that crowd.. also will the theatre crowd stay home ? and before you say Prospect Park is not a theatre , I know but its a yuppie park& attracts crowds not too different than the theatre shows..

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 4:20 PM

The comment from 420 reflects the transplant view with little knowledge of how the larger metro region functions. Plenty of "kids from the suburbs" - I should know because I was one in the 90s - come into the city for all sorts of all age shows. Suburbanites went to the theater shows and they'll go to MSG as well.

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 7:47 PM

Actually I lived in NJ / NY area for 30 years before moving away..

I know suburbanites go to all kind of shows but I'm talking about high school kids that don't go to a lot of concerts but think Arcade Fire , LCD Soundsystem and Mumford and Sons are cutting edge...maybe they'll go see Bon Iver at Radio City but I doubt many of them are going to see Sigur Ros and if they want to sell 8 to 10K worth of tickets those are extra people they need to pull..

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 8:30 PM

and also i too took the train into see shows in late 80's early 90s but back then the coolest band to play MSG was REM.. .

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 8:45 PM

abe lincoln liked chubby chicks

Posted by Anonymous | November 12, 2012 8:54 PM

one of the last bands I'd want to see in an arena.

Posted by Anonymous | November 13, 2012 12:50 AM

Everyone here sounds like the band's manages agency, who gives a fuck where they play and who goes. Seriously people on BV are funny sometimes but you guys bitch about everything

Posted by Anonymous | November 13, 2012 3:12 AM

are you just sayin?

Posted by Anonymous | November 14, 2012 7:36 PM

they will fill MSG and they deserve it. havent missed a tour since ( ) tour, and with their new visuals......this show will be killer
