skate video 'Pretty Sweet' screening at Sunshine Cinema tonight; Nick Zinner, Cosmo Baker & more DJing the afterparty

Pretty Sweet

Girl and Chocolate Skateboards teamed up for the collaborative skate video, Pretty Sweet, directed by Spike Jonze, which made its world premiere in LA on Friday (11/16) and is continuing to be screened in other places, including NYC’s Sunshine Cinema tonight (11/18) at 7 PM and 9 PM. ESPN was at the film’s premiere in LA, where the screening was introduced by Tyler, the Creator. They write:

The first part belonged to Vincent Alvarez and set the tone for what’s to come. “Pretty Sweet” is every bit a Girl/Chocolate video, but this one is all about the kids. [Vincent] Alvarez‘s intensity, Cory Kennedy‘s innovation, Stevie Perez‘s precision are complimented Raven Tershy‘s agility on street and in transition, while Elijah Berle‘s ender had Gerwer in front of me holding his head in amazement. Gary Rogers’ mind blew sometime during Sean Malto‘s seemingly endless barrage of tricks.

Veteran Girl/Chocolate skaters Marc Johnson, Kenny Anderson, Jeron Wilson, Brian Anderson, Jesus Fernandez, Mike Carroll and Eric Koston laid down a serious assault, reminding you how these two board companies got to where they are, but this video was clearly an introduction to the next crew, who’ll carry the torch in years to come.

The video will be available on iTunes, DVD, and Blu-Ray on November 27. You can watch the trailer below. All dates and cities for the film’s screenings are listed here.

After tonight’s screenings at Sunshine Cinema, there will be an afterparty in NYC at Le Poisson Rouge with DJ sets by Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick ZInner, Spike Jonze’s brother Sam Spiegel, Cosmo Baker (The Rub), and actor/skater Leo Fitzpatrick (who you may know as Telly from Kids, Johnny Weeks from The Wire, or other places.) That party is totally free to the public with RSVP to [email protected]. Doors open at 10:30 and there will be an open bar until midnight. You must be 21+ to enter.
