Battles at ATP NY 2011 (more by Dana [distortion] Yavin)

Battles have been around for 10 years, believe it or not, and will be celebrating by spinning records tonight in NYC's East Village. Via their Facebook:
Tonight, Tuesday the 18th, from 9pm 'til late. Battles and friends will be at the Gin Palace on Ave A & 6th in NYC, playing records, for the unofficial, but honestly true, 10-year-anniversary of our first show. Come by! It's free to get in.Happy 10th Anniversary, guys. Go out and celebrate with them tonight -- again, they're just spinning records, it's not a show. But there will be drink specials from 9 - 10 PM.

will never see this band again after seeing them last year and they refused to play ANY old songs just b/c the black dude left the band. ridiculous. the new record wasnt even out yet. what a bullshit move.

@12:05 Those songs required an additional instrumentalist and a vocalist, you dingus! Maybe could have given it the backing track treatment, but what's the point? New Battles is impressive in a whole new way. Should have viewed that as a treat, you scummy bastard.

I disagree. I dont like the new Battles nearly as much as the old. Plus, like i said, the show was before that record was out, so to play for over an hour with all material that no one has heard, is a total ripoff. If they need an additional instrumentalist/vocalist, then get one!

New battles was better live after it got going. I saw them at end of last tour and they were really tight.

Mirrored was the cd that I bought and sold the fastest ever...it was like nails on a chalkboard!

9:20 AM Its certainly not for everyone. The EPs before Mirrored are my favorite. No singing and a more ambient approach to Math Rock. They progressively get worse, IMO. I still enjoy them, they just seem to write the same song over and over now.
