Grizzly Bear / Santigold @ Bowery Ballroom, 12/10/2012 (Andrako)
Grizzly Bear
Santigold

"So, you guys go to a lot of shows?" asked Chris Taylor of the Bowery Ballroom crowd last night (12/10) which was private "Year in Music" party thrown by SPIN, mostly for advertisers. Definitely not your normal Grizzly Bear crowd. That said, Grizzly Bear sounded great as usual, even if some of the visual flare of their recent shows was replaced by a lit-up SPIN logo.

Also playing the party was Santigold who seemed to be a little more the crowd's speed. With a set featuring multiple costume changes, umbrella-armed backup dancers and a pantomime horse, Santi put on a very fun show. She's a charmer.

Grizzly Bear's next show is this Friday (12/14) at Terminal 5 as part of a Hurricane Sandy relief benefit that also includes Sleigh Bells, The Antlers and Cults. That show is sold out. Meanwhile, Santigold plays Oakland, CA on Wednesday (12/12) and Miami on New Year's Eve.

Was there and got VIP balcony access. Free food and drinks like a boss! Who the fuuuuuck is Santigold?

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2012 2:23 PM

industry circle jerk. I kind of wonder if they gave those tickets away randomly or just to VIPs.

Well, we know that Grizzly Bear, or at least the guy with the nose, is dirt poor living on the street and having the eat out of dumpsters. There was an article about it.

So, its nice that they got a nice big check from the magazine that just laid off half their friends.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2012 2:44 PM

what a bunch of whores

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2012 2:48 PM

Ed: So you guys go to a lot of shows?

Crowd: Who the fuck are you, and why the fuck is your ugly ass invading my party? Oh, that's right, because telling chicks I listen to your twee-ass pussymusic will get their panties a-soakin'. Entertain me, then fuck off and die!

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2012 2:51 PM

$80,000 for grizzly bear to perform this apparently. what the fuck is a spin anyways?

Spin is an 80s magazine about music that spun off of Penthouse. Daddy Porn King gave his son a toy, basically.

Now its run by people who can lay off a ton of workers and then spend 80K for a shit band to play a private party where they rent out Bowery Ballroom.

Grizzly Bear is so boring that I can't even cut their fans slack in the "that's just your opinion, man" department. The love of this band and Animal Collective killed the flowering Indie movement of the late '00's. SO damn boring and pretentious. No life, no vigor. Worse than the the beardo lite-jam bands masquerading as Indie geniuses.

Santigold is a damn fun artist. I once saw her open for X in 2003 with her native Philly band, Stiffed. THAT was a damn rock show.

I like their music, but Grizzley bear are seriously the biggest whores in the music industry. Like, even Kanye wouldn't do this.

3:48 loves Santogold and hates Animal Collective, hipsters, and is apparently completely immune to irony.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2012 4:07 PM

Wasn't Santigold sucking cock for loose change in the 135th street C train station circa 2003?

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2012 4:09 PM

I wonder how late santigold went on after her scheduled time

"The love of this band and Animal Collective killed the flowering Indie movement of the late '00's."

What bands were involved in this flowering indie movement?

playing a magazine party is being a 'whore', I guess Vampire Weekend and Frank Ocean are whores too for playing the Spotify show and making bank.

Buy records, then people don't have to play dumb parties.

2:51 has penis issues

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2012 8:15 PM

Yeah it's a concert/party. Who the hell cares. And what's so wrong with Spin anyways?

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2012 9:09 PM

ben, you a little defensive that you're a shitty whore yourself?

Musicians (and blogs) have to make money. Understood. But it's also ok to give them shit when they play to a bunch of soulless yuppie cunts for dough.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2012 10:37 PM

@10:37 duh. you're right. they should've played for free.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2012 11:06 PM

@10:37 so nice to have a moral compass here.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2012 11:08 PM

Anyone who would turn down a paid private gig like this is a complete fucking idiotic self-important cunt.
