High on Fire

High on Fire are on tour and played two NYC shows this weekend, the first of which was at Bowery Ballroom on 11/30 with tourmates Goatwhore, Primate and Lo-Pan. The shows marked not only a triumphant return for guitar god Matt Pike following his stint with rehab, but also a chance to document his return for all posterity: both Bowery Ballroom and the following night's show at Music Hall of Williamsburg were recorded for a live album. Pictures from Bowery are in this post (and pics and a review from Music Hall are on the way). More, and a video of Primate performing Black Flag covers at the after-party at Saint Vitus, below...

Not a big fan of LIVE albums, but it is High On Fire...take my money Matt Pike :)

There's more crust at this show than in a pie factory.

Don't you sausages have any self respect whatsoever?

Dear Matt Pike,

As a longtime fan of your music dating back 20+ years, I am pleased to hear that you're still among the living and all that, but jesus, would it hurt to try some exercising every other day? No one wants to see you dead, dude. Your riffs are great, but coronary artery disease is not.

Your fan,

Elmo

Lo Pan, Lo Pan who? The little old basketcase on wheels or the 10ft tall roadblock. - Jack Burton

As a fan of ugly dude pics, it's like I died and went to heaven!

LO PAN and PRIMATE remind me of being a younger man watching working dad types play in their blues rock/jimmy buffet jam bands.
Older dudes doing a full on re hash, its really boring. Black Flag songs sung at a corporate party. Leftovers re heated too many times and stripped of all nutritional value.
Goatwhore and HOF ripped! Per usual.
Goatwhore is a band of giants.
So fucking good.

That redneck hillbilly needs to put a fucking shirt on. What the fuck is wrong with people?

^ everyone posting above is pissed that all of these bands remembered to leave the vowels in their name. i'll put this in a way that makes sense to your amyl nitrate soaked minds:

fck ff stpd dpshts...

Anyone have any idea what album was playing in the intermission between Goatwhore and High on Fire? Extremely minimal ominous ambient. I asked the sound guy but all he has is a CD-R without markings and he didn't know.

8:30 you paid money to see this filth and that's what your worried about?

This scene is fucking disgusting.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 8:39 PM

4:30 bingo. I know metal music on this site is given a hard time, but seriously what is up with this? Does the dude have any shame at all? Any pride? Dude looks pathetic.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 8:42 PM

Ha Ha 8:39 you wouldn't be so lucky. No nerve to hit, no trust fund, although I could in fact buy your building out from under your rental agreement and release rats into the hallways and due to the juice I have at City Hall there's not a single thing your atrophied sausage mind could think to do about it. So, there's that.

...seriously, how do you get out on stage every night and look out at THIS?

I've seen High on Fire 5 times. Haven't seen them since the bloating. New record is killer though, if you're into that sorta thing...which judging by the comments here...

Posted by DARTMOUTH=METAL | December 2, 2012 8:50 PM

I like all kinds of music, as long as it has a killer guitar. I've heard HOF and they're alright I guess. Looking at these pictures, thought, it'd be a cold day in hell before I would be caught dead among this motley crew.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 8:52 PM

^yup the most twee ridiculous hipster nonsense that ever happened in Williamsburg is still vastly superior to this. These people are a half a milometer removed from the primordial soup.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 8:54 PM

Wow it seems every prick on here talking shit has a problem with the way the bands look, rather than the music they play. Thats so weird...

Posted by Anonymous | December 3, 2012 5:59 AM

I do not agree with these scenes...
