Graham Parker / Ian Hunter at The Paramount

...[Graham] Parker (who has for the past several years lived near Woodstock,New York), was in personable form, joking with an enthusiastic dancer in the front row ("Are you by from the Fall River area, by any chance?"), remembering an offer from one of Aerosmith's management teams ("You should open for Flock of Seagulls"), and arranging his hits and near hits with generous care ("From Squeezing Out Sparks, side one").

The sound was beautifully balanced so you could catch every nuance of guitarists Brinsley Schwartz and Martin Belmont trading leads, and even most of those genius lyrics. - [The Phoenix]

That review from from Graham Parker & the Rumour's recent show in Boston at The Wilbur (12/6). Before that, he played NYC and then a show at The Paramount in Huntington, NY on December 2 with onetime Mott the Hoople frontman Ian Hunter. Pictures from the Paramount are in this post.

New Yorkers (or folks visiting) will have another chance to see Ian when he plays City Winery on February 9 and 10, and tickets for those shows are on sale now.

Meanwhile, Graham has a few West Coast shows coming up and will probably be attending the premiere of Judd Apatow's new comedy, This Is 40, (to which he contributes songs and also appears in) which is out December 21.

More pictures from the Paramount show (including setlists for both) are below.

Ian is 73 and still going strong though it must be odd to end your show singing about "young dudes".

How did Papa Collar and Denim Daddy sound?

Great show! two of my alltime faves. Both of these guys epitomize what is missing in most of today's music: Rock n rollers who write and sing great songs.

A Flock Of Seagulls had better songs and better vocals than Graham Parker and the Rumour. I doubt they offered him an opening slot, since their 15 mins didn't start until his were done.

Was at this show to see GP and the Rumor. Been a fan since 79/80 and I'd seen GP 4 times previously, but this was the first time with the Rumor. They were awesome. Glad they reunited and are getting some press. Maybe this will get people to check out their back catalogue.

It's good to see one of my all-time favorites, Graham Parker, touring with his great band. However, the article fails to address one very important issue - what are Graham Parker's 10 favorite albums of 2012?

How could GP not play "Stick To Me"?

^hate to say it, but if so, its for the best-they sounded roughly 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 times better than when they were last in ny.
