Ryan Jarman of The Cribs gives us his Top 10 Tracks of 2012 (stream them)

The Cribs @ MHOW, April 2012 (more by Guy Eppel)
The Cribs

After a stint with legendary guitar-slinger Johnny Marr joining the group, The Cribs slimmed back to their all-Jarman power trio line-up for this year’s In the Belly of the Brazen Bull, their best album in a while which made Best of 2012 lists from NME and The Fly. Currently residing here in Brooklyn (where he’s working on an album with Jen Turner), frontman Ryan Jarman was nice enough to give us his Top 10 Tracks of the year. He prefaces his list with this:

I tend to see end of year lists as like homework or something so it always gets done at the very last minute. However, now I live in Brooklyn I thought it was good form to make the effort for the local rag so here is my quickly thrown together top 10 tracks of the year.

Ryan and Jen’s band, Exclamation Pony were added as an opener to the previously discussed Mission of Burma show in NYC on January 18 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets for that show are still available.

Ryan’s top 10 picks are below, complete with commentary and streams…

Ryan Jarman of The Cribs’ Top 10 Tracks of 2012
In no particular order…

Teeth – “Medicine Out”
-the saddest thing about last year was John Grabski III being cut down in his prime, whilst churning out some of the heaviest, most rockin’ music in years.

This Many Boyfriends – “(I Should Be A) Communist”
I should probably be sick of this song cos I produced it, but I aren’t. Great naive, sweet, catchy pop.

Cheatahs – “The Swan”

Bobby Conn – “Underground Vktm”
Any year with a new Conn man record is a good year for music.

Thrillionaire – “Wie Gehts?”
My favourite this year/next year/whenever you choose to ask me:

Tampasm – “Darling Self Destruct”
OK so it shouldn’t really have come out this year, it should have been ’97, but their label dropped them and they finally put it out themselves this year. Kick ass Brighton femme punk:

Keith Burton and his Beef Curtain – Scollop Butty EP
Think this was supposed to be part of a singles club but it sold so badly he never put anymore out. I want my fiver back.

September Girls – Wanting More
Paula and Caoimhe’s best incarnation yet.

Martin Creed – “Fuck Off”
“you see, I think the fact that me and Martin have the same birthday is the reason we feel so close to each other, you know”?

Sun Foot – Extra Pool EP
Portland guitar swing.
