Tonight at Knitting Factory it's the annual Rock Lottery where Holly Miranda, Beans, members of My Morning Jacket, M83, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Hold Steady, Yuck, Hooray for Earth, Ra Ra Riot and more will form impromptu bands (with members being chosen out of a hat). They will write and rehearse original material to be performed tonight. Proceeds from the show go to benefit Hurricane Sandy relief. Sounds like fun.

Meanwhile, A Place to Bury Strangers, Liturgy and more are at 285 Kent tonight for a Hurricane Sandy relief benefit.

Dinosaur Jr. are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their album You're Living All Over Me with a star-studded (Johnny Marr! Kim Gordon!) show at Terminal 5 where they'll play the album in full.

And don't forget that BrooklynVegan is presenting advance screenings of Only The Young andTchoupitoulas (a double feature!) at the Knitting Factory this Sunday (12/2) starting at 7 PM and is free (first come, first served). Do come out!

Let me tell you what 'Like a Sausage' is about. It's all about a glory hole catcher who digs a sausage with a sweaty taint. The entire song. It's a metaphor for sweaty taints.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2012 11:39 AM

11:22 - if Dino playing a long time is a problem, you might want to stay home with a nice cup of chamomile tea and the latest Norah Jones.

Dear J,

I recall, and this is going waaaaaaay back, when I was a budding line cook, before the days of Master Billyburger Chef, when you rawked the house. Thank you for staying with it all these years.

The Chef.

"Dino show officially sold out"

Moron know nothing or BP employee.

"going to be hard to beat Dinosaur Jr tonight"

Actually easy to beat Dinosaur Jr tonight. It is at a terrible sounding venue. Great band, shit venue = not a great show but then you probably don't care about sound.

" It is at a terrible sounding venue. Great band, shit venue = not a great show but then you probably don't care about sound."

BV, please block this asshole from posting ever again. I for one am pretty tired of ready the exact same insulting nonsense for literally every fucking show at T5. Thank you,

Serial posting dude - get some help, please. For the sake of your mom having to live with you. I'm sure she deserves better than your sorry ass.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2012 5:27 PM

"ready" = reading (obviously)

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2012 5:27 PM

Sound guy who knows what he's doing and giving enough of a shit to get there in time to get a good spot will take care of the sound issue. The repetitive T5 sucks posts are beyond tiresome.

Posted by Anonymous | December 1, 2012 8:19 PM

Any of you assholes who skipped Dinosaur because the sound sucks at T5 missed out.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:03 AM

That said, dinosaur has only ever sounded like the inside of a jet engine. Everywhere, from the beginning.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:13 AM

For everyone who didn't get to the Dino show tonight, I'll confirm what you're all waiting to hear: Yes, J wore another shirt with a bear on it.

Posted by Mike | December 2, 2012 1:18 AM

Dinosaur Jr and friends were off the chain tonight. T5 sounded fine, as it has for every show I've ever attended.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:28 AM

I will also confirm that this guy above me reported: That you that chose not to catch Dino tonight really really fucking missed out. I've seen them several times, going back to 1991, and they sounded better tonight than every other time combined. And loud? Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii'

Oh please, Johnny fucking Marr doing Boy With The Thorn In His Side, and Frank Black doing Tame, Kim Gordon on Don't, Tommy Stinson, drummers from Melvins and Harvey Milk, TV Eye, etc. AND an awesome Dino album front to back.

The energy, the guests, the performances ... Most definitely one of the top 3 shows of the year, hands down.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:42 AM

Fred Armisen sighting at T5 tonight, playing drums with J on TV Eye

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:44 AM

Dino Jr had amazing guests last night: Frank Black, Tommy Stinson, Thom Yorke, Fred Armisen, the Edge, Kim Gordon, Jonny Marr and the guy from the Melvins. And lots of celebs in the crowd: John Stamos, James Murphy, Amy Poehler, Matt Pinfield and Ryan Reynolds. It was crazay!!

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 8:13 AM

Have to say that the sound at T5 was just perfect, glad the haters stayed home, ha ha, you missed it, G!

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 9:10 AM

LOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUU

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 9:29 AM

Nobody is mentioning Jimmy Page coming out to do In My Time Of Dying with them? Were you guys at the same show as me?

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 9:44 AM

Surprised it was so crowded after it was half empty for the Bug show last year.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 10:53 AM

It was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Kim Gordon singing "Don't" brought the house down. She OWNED it. I will never forget that performance.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 11:39 AM

Dinosaur Jr show: who was the tall white haired guy who played on Iron Cross' "Crucified" and who sang for "TV Eye"?

Posted by cr | December 2, 2012 11:41 AM

^ 2 different guys. Iron Cross guy stayed on to play guitar for Don't, but the dude who sang TV Eye (with Tommy Stinson) was another guy

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 11:54 AM

a huge fuck you to the prick who jumped on top of me from the 2nd floor of T5 last night

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 11:54 AM

A dude jumped from the 2nd floor? That's fucked up.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 12:02 PM

Crucified singer = Don Fleming
T.V. Eye singer = John Petkovic

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 12:21 PM

J Mascis looks like Gandalf? You people are fucking morons. He's clearly Saruman. Idiots.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 12:32 PM

That was the best show I've seen this year!!!

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 12:43 PM

Doesn't compare to any previous Dinosaur Jr show I've seen. A totally special performance that fucking killed from beginning to end! Feel bad if you missed this

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 12:49 PM

Doesn't compare to any previous Dinosaur Jr show I've seen. A totally special performance that fucking killed from beginning to end! The special guests were amazing. Kim Gordon Rules!

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 12:49 PM

SHOW OF THE YEAR!!! This is not a false claim, this is the truth!

I've been to around 50 shows this year and last night was the peak! Totally incredible night of amazing music!

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 12:56 PM

Except for maybe that first Afghan Whigs reunion show at BB, this was the best show I've seen all year. And there were some pretty spectacular shows this year.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 12:56 PM

Meh
No Puke and Cry? No Yeah We Know? No Show Me The Way?
Pretty pedestrian setlist.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:24 PM

Concert of the year for me, and I've seen a lot of excellent shows.
This was my 4th time seeing Dinosaur Jr, going back to the early 90s, and BY FAR the best.

The guest artists were awesome. But as a huge Pixies fan, you better believe my nipples got hard when Black Francis took the stage and sang a song. Then, when they launched into "Tame" I thought my fucking head would explode.

I thought that would be THE highlight of an awesome show...but I was wrong. Kim Gordon came out, looking absurdly sexy for a woman her age, and proceeded to scream her intestines out. That version of "Don't" was just. fucking. incredible.

Posted by paul | December 2, 2012 1:31 PM

1:24 - You are a fucking fool

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:31 PM

Wait until you see the guests for '4 Artists: 1 Cause' at T5. It's like the Gen-Z Pitchfork version of this (probably not your cup o' tea, but some people will also be saying concert of the year).

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:36 PM

"as a huge Pixies fan, you better believe my nipples got hard when Black Francis took the stage and sang a song"

pics or it didn't happen big boy

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:37 PM

1:31 b

Wait, I'm a fool for wanting to hear that they played deep cuts instead of the usual greatest "hits" cash grab? Fuck you.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:42 PM

1:24 - You are a fucking tool

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:42 PM

LOL @ the poowr widdew hipstew getting his panties all in a bunch because someone disagrees with his universal pronouncements. Why so serious?

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:47 PM

1:24 - You're beyond a tool. You really should have just asked "Why didn't they play *every* song they ever wrote?"

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:52 PM

Dinosaur Jr were always kind of a 2nd rate indie band. Sure they put out an OK first album, and if you got to see them around Northampton or Amherst back in 1985 then you saw their peak. All this hype from sentimental fanboys with bald spots and pot bellies is really rather embarrassing.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 1:52 PM

The drummer during "Crucify" - I think I heard someone say that was the actual Iron Cross drummer. Can anyone verify?

Posted by cr | December 2, 2012 1:52 PM

1:52 - Thanks Morrissey, but I believe it's called "getting older".

Posted by cr | December 2, 2012 2:12 PM

Was that Matt Pike from Sleep/High on Fire playing bass on a couple songs during the encore?

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 3:34 PM

3:34 - Al Cisneros, not Matt

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 3:56 PM

1:52 - Don Fleming announced Dante Ferrando from the stage

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 5:03 PM

"Dino Jr had amazing guests last night: Frank Black, Tommy Stinson, Thom Yorke, Fred Armisen, the Edge, Kim Gordon, Jonny Marr and the guy from the Melvins. And lots of celebs in the crowd: John Stamos, James Murphy, Amy Poehler, Matt Pinfield and Ryan Reynolds. It was crazay!!"

You can only carry horseshit so far, scarf. Perhaps it's because you so love the feel of it in your hands.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 5:03 PM

1:52 (1) is some dickhead with no idea what he's talking about. That was an unreal show last night. Anyone who missed it missed out on something special.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 5:18 PM

Loved the Dino show last night, but the sound sucked. About halfway in dead center, vocals and guitars were mush. J moved some air no doubt, but couldn't distinguish things like Marr from J. I have been to some pretty good sounding quieter shows here, but all the loud ones have had this fatal flaw. And the place is run by idiots--missed Kurt Vile because they had a line halfway down the block. So fuck T5 and all their idiot apologists posting here.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 5:59 PM

I got in line at 6:45, got in and got a good spot by 7:10, and I found the sound terrific except for one moment during the encores. I could distinguish all players, and overall a great experience. Just goes to show what getting there a little early does for ya.

Posted by Anonymous | December 2, 2012 6:35 PM

Noel did sound for Dino and he did a fantastic job.
