FLAG

Just when things couldnt get any weirder regarding Black Flag...

Black Flag original members Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowski, and Bill Stevenson, along with guitarist Stephen Egerton (who played along Bill Stevenson in Descendents and ALL), spurred by crowd reaction to a surprise set at Goldenvoice's 30th anniversary show in 2011, have formed FLAG as a vehicle to continue performing the hardcore progentiors' repertoire.
We now have dueling "Flag"s, this version and the previously discussed with Greg Ginn and Ron Reyes. I have a headache.

Catch the Morris version on the road in Europe and at Punk Rock Bowling in Vegas over Memorial Day Weekend (May 24 - 27) where they'll join names like The Damned (who are also playing Chaos), DRI, Lagwagon, Subhumans, The Bouncing Souls, Swingin Utters, Lower Class Brats and more. Tickets for Punk Rock Bowling go on sale Tuesday (1/29) at 1PM PST.

While not as "original" as the lineup with Ginn and Reyes, this one will definitely be the most fun to watch.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 4:24 PM

Dukowski is playing in both of them? Weird.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 4:24 PM

4:24: Dukowski is NOT in "Black Flag" only FLAG. The original post has since been amended. Confusing enough for you?

"While not as "original" as the lineup with Ginn and Reyes"

Explain please, idiot? I would say it pretty much evens out on originals and just makes me wish they would kill all this stupidity and just get back together. Instead of this nonsense.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 4:48 PM

Aren't there two bands recording and performing as Faust?

Posted by Regular reader | January 25, 2013 4:51 PM

Total nonsense and both bands should be avoided. Neither will provide the "true" Black Flag experience.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 4:58 PM

if you put all 20 members of black flag in a cage fight, who who would be the last man/woman left?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 5:03 PM

This would have been news 20 years ago.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 5:06 PM

Seriously, I'd rather see these fat, over the hill 50 year olds fight with sticks and other blunt weapons than play a show.

Black Flag vs FLAG deathmatch. Let's do it!

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 5:18 PM

OFF! Already sounds like Black Flag but luckily they do it with awareness. Besides Rollins and Ginn do not care for each other or Rollins more so because Ginn screwed many of the members on his SST label.

Greg Ginn kinda threw Negativland under the bus also.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 5:19 PM

@5:19- OFF! wishes they sounded even close to Black Flag.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 5:26 PM

LOL@ "Neither will provide the "true" Black Flag experience."

What? none of these sausage faggots is in possession of a time machine?

Posted by Rinjo Njori | January 25, 2013 10:05 PM

keith morris = 2nd weakest link in the entire black flag chain, right next to chavo.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 10:36 PM

The cool thing about Ginn, not redeeming, but still makes me smile, is how when everyone was doing a benefit for Keith Morris's cancer treatment about 10 years ago, Ginn was putting on a benefit for homeless kittens.
I think the best thing to do when old men need beer money is to make a donation in their name to the ASPCA, and stay home when their reunion tour comes around.

Posted by michelin | January 26, 2013 10:50 AM

Dream line-up I'd say would be Henry Rollins, Gren Ginn, Kira Roessler and Bill Stevenson. I know, I know, Chuck Dukowski, but he only really played on one album where Kira did like four. Maybe Dez Candenza on second guitar. Oh, and a unicorn while we're at it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2013 11:07 AM

*Cadena. Whoops.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2013 11:11 AM

"...Chuck Dukowski, but he only really played on one album"

Huh?

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2013 11:21 AM

best black flag incar4nation was rollins, ginn, kira, stevenson

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2013 12:23 PM

Yeah, it's funny to have people who were born after Black Flag broke up, talking about "what was the best lineup".

Posted by Dave | January 26, 2013 12:30 PM

will they do the spoken word stuff from family man?

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2013 1:15 PM

11:21 - Damaged, that was it except for an EP or two. Ginn did bass on My War and the rest was Kyra.

? Chuck played in black flag way longer than Kira, was a founding member, ran sst w ginn and wrote half the songs.

50 year plan.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2013 5:09 PM

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2013 9:33 PM

OFF! > then any version of Black Flag

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2013 12:41 PM

What a LOAD of crap. They need money because thei socialist way of life didnt work out so well for them. Blew it out and now you have NOTHING. Bad choices and ideas. punk dont pay retirement nor does it take out 6.6% for social security from your paybox check.

Posted by Bob | January 28, 2013 5:12 PM

Yeah, blame socialism... Blah... Blah... Poop...Blah... Excuse me while I diss these guys and try to appear as if my opinion is relevant here.

Posted by sugarballs | January 29, 2013 8:39 AM

"TBA later today... BLACK .. featuring henry, brian, kira, and dez"

At this point, would we be surprised? I'm guessing the members of these different bands and Black Flag (aside from Rollins) have not managed their money well and they're seeing one last chance to cash in before they die? Or are they really all about the music?

All I can hope is that this will show some of the people out there that call *some* bands out there punk.. ACK.

Posted by Anonymous | January 29, 2013 9:01 PM

This will be interesting w/Black Flag also touring. I pretty much consider any sort of "reunion" without Ginn pretty much just them being no different than any other cover band out there.

Posted by Cory Shwadlenak | February 1, 2013 7:04 PM

I did not see a bass player listed for the Ginn/Reyes "Black Flag".
I bet Greg will use a tape loop for the bass like he did a few years back. Makes you wonder if he can be stand to onstage with anyone else who holds an instrument?

Posted by Butthead | February 3, 2013 2:35 PM

Yeahhhhhhhhh, Dez is in!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 3:25 PM

There are tons of good hardcore bands in chicago like CULO Canadian Rifle Repos etc. Why pay 35!!!! dollars to see old farts when the kids do it better?

Posted by Jeremy | February 20, 2013 3:55 PM

Right 9:01, who cares about the old dudes RITE?

Because let's check out the list of fucking GEMS that all of the "young dudes" have cooked up in 2012 which are just completely 'taking it to the next level' for the world to salivate over:

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2012/12/pitchforks_top_7.html

Punk bands won't have to reform once the kids quit phoning it in on laptops/in general.

You fucking asshat.

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2013 12:45 AM

Hey Jeremy, here's a great quote from your Culo band:

"We don’t really work with the scene and none of us really care to, I mean it doesn’t matter to me."

Pretty awesome. They must be a real HC band... doing it better.. really breaking down the walls.

Thanks for the music tips.

Jesus, is that John Goodman on drums? They're all fat and slow, even Stevenson. This is a tragedy. Stay home and spend your money on the records, kids.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 1:10 AM

Yeah I was talking to somebody about that - they've got Dream of Evan and Chan (which was a single? or just 1 song?), the album Give Up, they had that Phil Collins cover, did they do a Shins cover too?, and now these unreleased songs - but that's still only an hour or so - so what else do they play?

Posted by two way radios | March 8, 2013 12:58 AM

Posted by Bumba | March 18, 2013 1:08 PM

So are they going to be playing only four songs? Morris was only in the band for an EP. Anybody know where I can find tour dates and more information on this?

Playing a round of instant racing involves a few things. First off, this is historical race wagering, so the machines are going to show replays of races that have already occurred. But tampering is prevented, because the videos do not show the names of the horses, jockeys or even the trainers. This protects the player from knowing the outcome of a race, preserving the excitement of genuinely not knowing what's going to happen.

as great as this sounds, without Greg Ginn, it is not Black Flag. BF was and always will be HIS band. he was the only constant throughout their tumultuous career.
