tame impala

There have been rumors flying that Daft Punk would release a new album in 2013 and it's looking that that's going to happen. Both Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter are confirming the the French electro duo have signed with Columbia Records. The Guardian, meanwhile, reports that the new album will be out in May. The album reportedly features guest appearances from Nile Rodgers, Paul Williams (!), Animal Collective's Panda Bear and more.

Not counting 2010's TRON: LEGACY soundtrack, Daft Punk's last album was 2005's underwhelming Human After All. The band last played NYC at Coney Island in 2007 but did make an appearance at Phoenix's Madison Square Garden show in 2010.

Where will they play? 5 nights at Terminal 5?!

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 3:11 PM

^They are not touring for the album

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 3:15 PM

Weaksauce

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 3:16 PM

Bet the album sucks at worse and is meh at best. The "genre" has come a long way since the last time these guys actually meant something.

How terrible was TRON? Soundtrack, yes, but still terrible.

And while we're at it...Coachella performance that brought them back to life is to this day so overrated.

Sorry all you DP'ers out there.

I can't even imagine them touring. Certainly more of a residency than one night at MSG, at least if anyone actually plans on getting in.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 3:26 PM

They are going to play Coney Island for 3+ nights in July. Hopefully they found a way to top their last setup.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 3:27 PM

Their last setup? It was a fucking pyramid with lights. Seriously, Swedish House Mafia today blows that shit out of the water and they suck. They do know how to do lights and a stage set though. That pyramid looks like It's a Small World circa 1984.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 3:29 PM

backlash anyone? anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 3:31 PM

3rd gov ball headliner?

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 3:32 PM

All Points East?

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 4:00 PM

Nile Rodgers, that's pretty cool. Panda Bear, not so cool. Hope they do play live. Their shows are fun if nothing else.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 4:02 PM

so based on that collaboration list, will they put out a record similar to what The Chemical Bros. did in late 90s/early 2000's?

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 4:06 PM

Bonnaroo. Mark it down.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 4:07 PM

This is the best news I've heard since Sabra announced there new 16oz size!

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 4:13 PM

Do you fucking brainless twits actually read what people on here write before you comment. Or read information in other realms of the internet or other places.

Daft Punk are NOT TOURING for this record. If they were, they would have played Coachella.

So you idiots who are posting different places are just that. Idiots.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 4:13 PM

you guys are actually all wrong. they're playing at my house, my house.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 4:16 PM

Ever since they showed up at the Phoenix show last year, I've been wondering if the two of them will go out on tour together in future. Since they both have albums coming out in 2013, I'm thinking there is a decent chance of that.

Posted by lp | January 28, 2013 4:17 PM

I dont understand why people shit themselves over this group.. Their music isn't that great.. Mediocre dance music.. zzzzzzz

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 4:19 PM

4:15 you know Rob Da Bank retracted those not-playing-live statements right? and they aint on coach cuz they couldnt get it together in time, plain and simple-a live show/tiny tour this summer is totally feasible tho.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 4:41 PM

I read Brooklyn Vegan for the witty commentary.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 4:49 PM

4:41 - They are not touring. Sorry to smash those dreams of yours. Furthermore, anyone who calls Coachella "coach" for short needs to have their face bashed in.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 4:51 PM

@4:51 my face bashed in? really? wow. very cool. i hope you have a nice day!

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 4:55 PM

There's no way you sign with Columbia and they just let you not tour to support your first album on the new label. Even if you're Daft Punk.

Also, sorry they're not death metal BV, but (a) TRON soundtrack totally counts, it's amazing, (b) so does Alive 2007 even though it's not a studio album, and (c) Human After All underrated? Gimme a break ...

Posted by Anon | January 28, 2013 4:57 PM

They are def touring. Just didnt want to launch at Coachella again...not into doing the same thing twice.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 5:02 PM

They are not touring. Take it to the bank. 4:57 you are an idiot and so is your buddy at 5:02. Clueless as well.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 5:07 PM

No same thing twice? So, we can expect they'll be at the top of square instead of a pyramid.

It is fun though reading these comments minus the "bash" your face shit. That's just stupid and generally paints the picture of what Coachella is slowly becoming - asshole central. It only takes about 10% of the crowd to be assholes to make the whole place smell of, well, assholes.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 5:10 PM

There is def some roid rage hatemonger who trolls this board spewing vile know it all bullshit, pretty much constantly.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 5:20 PM

confirmed: Governor's Ball - Saturday night.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 5:26 PM

5:26-you mean the idiot at 5:26 falsely saying they are confirmed for Gov Ball. You must mean that know it all bullshit, right?

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 5:31 PM

Well he used the word confirmed so it must be official.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 5:35 PM

They are playing The Gov's Ball. Take it to the bank. But they are not touring. Just a few shows.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 6:04 PM

People need to realize that Daft Punk has only put out three full length LP's, one of which was total crap (Human After All). So you're really only left with two albums. And I hate to say it but Homework was their real masterpiece, and that shit came out in 1997. Not to detract from the amazeballs that was Discovery, but that was a pop crossover, not the house music that made them famous.

If Daft Punk really wanted to make a good album they have to return to what made them famous in the first place and make a proper house LP. That's not happening when you have Chilly Gonzalez and Panda Bear on your album.

Also, what's with the lack of singles and EP's over the years? Doesn't DP know that current electronic music is over the LP format?

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 6:12 PM

WHY would they play Gov's Ball? WHY? Maybe Electric Zoo but even that seems like a long as fucking shot. All of a sudden GB adds a third day and it's like the second coming of Christ. For fuck's sake, Kanye West? Kings of Leon? Oh sure, it's makes so much sense that Daft Punk would be the third headliner. So much sense. It will a third lame ass headliner. It's the season of lame ass headliners. Wake me up next year when you'll still be going on about Daft Punk, blah, blah, blah.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 6:45 PM

I saw them in 1997. That was their Homework-era peak. Listen to the Alive (1997) album. Move on, lemmings.

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 6:54 PM

Posted by Anonymous | January 28, 2013 7:06 PM

Just reread the 2007 Coney Island daft punk show comments. What an awesome thread! Best thread I have ever read. And I have read a lot of threads. Lets list the top five BV threads of all time!

Allow me to summarize: if daft punk doesn't tour, they should have the faces bashed in. You're welcome.
