Dinosaur Jr.

Going to see a Dinosaur Jr. show can be a pummelling experience, sonically. The band are infamously loud and I count a show I saw of theirs in college to basically the start of my tinitus. You can experience this at home, too, or in your car if you turn your stereo up loud enough, as happens to a suburban dad (played by James Urbaniak) in the band's new music video for "Pierce the Morning Rain." Would you say listening to Dinosaur Jr. at dangerously loud levels is like being punched in the face by Henry Rollins? This video argues that case and you can watch it below.

J, Murph and Lou are about to head to Europe for a tour followed by dates in Australia. A list of all dates and that music video are below.

funny you should mention that, as little fury things came on my ipod blaring the other morning and with a hefty hangover, it almost gave me a seizure and made me throw up

oooh.... yeah, keep the volume low on that one as it kicks in.... that wah is brutal.... but so awesome.

I honestly think a lot of people (especially on a site like this) tend to exaggerate how loud Dino Jr. (even live) is. Sure, the guitar wah-wah can really amp it up, but I've definitely seen plenty of louder shows than DJ.

They haven't been as loud the last few times I've seen them, but then again, how loud can one get at places like Terminal 5 or Central Park? That's Rollins doing the punching.

They haven't been that loud at T5, but at MHOW a few years back they were super loud. It depends on the venue.

^ You two have a point. There are louder bands live, but DJ can still pack that big punch, depending on where they play.

I would pay hard earned money to have Henry Rollins headbutt my face

if you look closely at j's amp/speaker set up at shows half of it is not even turned on

Maxwell's 87 and 88 loudest/best rawk shows I've ever seen. Advantage to being an old fuck.

"MBV were 100x louder than DJ and swans were 50x"

You're right about DJ, but wrong about Swans.

So glad that Scion put money up to make that video. Go buy a car with a scarf warmer.
