Morrissey @ The Capitol Theatre, 1/19/2012
Morrissey

Morrissey finished up the last of his four NYC-area shows at Port Chester's Capitol Theatre on Saturday (1/19), which was his second swing through the East Coast in less than year. Morrissey opened the show with The Smiths' "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" (from Meat is Murder) which was apparently the first time he's ever performed the song solo. (Video of that below.) From there it was a similar setlist to what BAM audiences got a week ago and is generally a little more crowd-pleasing than his T5 and Radio City shows last year. The Cap is a pretty small room for Morrissey, with great sound and lights, and he and his band were in great form. The setlist from the show is below.

Kristeen Young opened at The Cap, as she's done this whole tour. Pictures of both artists, and the setlist and videos from Morrisey's set, below...

Obits on Friday, Morrissey on Saturday -- I think I'm ruined for music, for at least a week or two.

Kristeen Young is the Washington Generals of music. She is Charlie Brown to Morrissey's Lucy holding the football. She is the Wiley Coyote to Morrissey's Road Runner.

Pretty good set, better than AC, thought about going but didn't - too bad That Joke is my favorite Smiths song, though my cousin told me they didn't do the fade at the end

With Eliot gone, hearing Morrissey do "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" is the closest we'll come to a full-blown Smiths reunion. I'll take it, though.

Hmm, should I have seen Morrissey? I guess he's as close as we'll get to a Smiths reunion, but it's not really that close and in any case I'd be surrounded by douchebags singing along. So I'll just listen to their records real loud in my basement (as long as mom doesn't mind).
