Soundgarden @ Hammerstein Ballroom, 1/22/2013
Soundgarden

After hitting Terminal 5 last week, Soundgarden played the first of two nights at Hammerstein Ballroom on Tuesday (1/22) as part of their current tour. Kicking things off with "Jesus Christ Pose," the band powered through a 26-song set that dusted off the rarely-played "Rhinosaur" (from 1996's Down the Upside). Setlist is below. If you went last night, how was it?

Soundgarden play Hammerstein again tonight (1/22) which is sold out. More pics and the setlist from last night's show are below...

Good setlist again..they are mixing it up which is great for the fans! What time did they hit the stage?

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 11:41 AM

Haha, what a way to open with JCP this time!

And My Wave and 4th of July, sweet.

Would've loved it if they abruptly went into Kickstand after one of their songs, but that's wishful thinking.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 11:42 AM

that's a kickass setlist

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 11:43 AM

@11:41am -

No opener, hit the stage around 8:30pm. FYI, lines to get in Hammerstein last night wrapped all the way around the corner of 34th/9th Ave around 8/815pm. A lot of people (myself included) didn't get in until they were already on stage, so if you're going tonight plan accordingly. The venue was more packed than I've ever seen it, too.

Posted by Funderburgh | January 23, 2013 11:43 AM

What time did they go on? Totally forgot this show was todnight and bought myself a ticket to the Ranger game!

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 11:44 AM

Thanks funderburgh

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 11:48 AM

Yeah a huge FUCK YOU to Hammerstein for overselling the HELL out of the floor....we could not even get past the back bar....everyone was complaining. Could not see or hear a thing for my $75. FUCK YOU Hammerstein. Never again.....don't be surprised if the fire dept shows up tonight.

WTF this setlist looks 400 times better than the one from T5. Hosed!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 11:52 AM

^T5 Got Fresh Tendrils and Head Down I say T5 got a good one too

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 11:55 AM

You should change the date at the top of the set list..

It's 2013 not 2012. k bye!

SG ROCKED THAT HOUSE MAN. BALLZ OUT ROCK N ROLL.

Posted by BMB | January 23, 2013 11:55 AM

How about that lucky bastard who got to play outshined. Sounded decent too..

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 11:59 AM

11:43: And on top of that, all yous had to endure the piercing cold. Sounds like quite the endurance test to go through!

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 12:00 PM

worst. crowd. ever. Would have been 100 x better if this was at MSG.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 12:08 PM

Great show. Loved that they did five songs from "Down On The Upside". And the new stuff kicked major ass.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 12:08 PM

did they really not play Black Hole Sun? That's kind of fucking awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 12:18 PM

^Oh yeah wow! Good for them!

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 12:26 PM

JCP opener? Damn...

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 12:28 PM

What's all this talk about JC Penny? They finally got that Fila track suit back in stock?

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 12:56 PM

haven't seen them since 1992 at Waterloo Village. can't believe its been 21 years.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 12:56 PM

Sounded muddled last night. Guess that's the sound at Hammerstien? Stood right in front of the soundboard, too. Whatever. Fuck you.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 12:58 PM

Did any blooches attend?

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 1:00 PM

12:58, agreed. Sound was horrid.. But then again, I couldn't see a damn thing either. where do i get my $75 back?

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 1:06 PM

How come you couldn't see? How tall are you?

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 1:15 PM

well 1:15pm we know who obviously was NOT at the show last night....

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 1:19 PM

Irving Plaza was the worst. Sounded great last night.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 1:21 PM

1:21 must have been hanging out with 1:15 last night...at home.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 1:22 PM

1:19..was not at the show last night but will be tonight jack-ass...tell me why you couldn't see? Where were you standing, how tall are you. If you are 5'6" you will have trouble seeing at every show.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 1:27 PM

Ha good luck 1:27. Good thing you're probably unemployed, that way you can get to venue nice and early and not have to deal with the shit show that everyone else did last night.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 1:30 PM

^what are you doing posting at 1:30 that is what I though

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 1:31 PM

what is it exactly that you though, monkey-squirt?

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 1:36 PM

overweight bros. yeah, looks like a lot of fun.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 1:45 PM

^Cornell is in good shape these days

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 1:56 PM

How was sound/over crowdness on the balconies compared to the floor? Any better?

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 2:07 PM

Question I have a floor ticket..can I sneak up to the Balcony?

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 2:10 PM

^ nope not as of last night....i wld try to trade it on CL for a balcony to some sucker who thinks it's a better ticket...otherwise I'd get to Hammerstein now and plan on not using a bathroom for several hours. Good luck!

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 2:25 PM

"overweight bros. yeah, looks like a lot of fun."

Well, I guess ANYthing is more fun than watching anemic, pompous, and vain scarf darlings play guitar looking like disaffected limp-wristed skeletons on percoset like you probably attach yourself (in more ways than one) to.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 2:31 PM

2:25 ah yeah what I thought...oh well maybe I can convince someone while waiting online...I 'll throw in $10 too

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 2:36 PM

btw, if anyone needs a ticket for tonight, let me know I have one extra GA, face value: quags3651@gmail.com

Posted by Funderburgh | January 23, 2013 3:27 PM

too bad no pretty noose

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 4:27 PM

^ Watch. Tonight it'll happen. That's right- I'm calling it!

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 4:38 PM

I think fresh tendrils again tonight and wild card of holy water or kickstand!

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 5:00 PM

That guy buying the T flipped the bird. That's cool man.....

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 5:00 PM

Holy Water is such a good song.

They were spot on last night; this is the third time I've seen them since the reunion (Lolla and the Gorge) and have yet to be let down. No Black Hole Sun was such a pleasant surprise. Excellent variety, great sound, just an all-around class act.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 5:07 PM

And to clarify, I was 25' from the stage, center. It sounded good from there, but I can't comment on anywhere else.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 5:08 PM

Were there people selling tickets?

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2013 5:40 PM

The first balcony wasn't crowded and the sound wasn't bad, but the energy was pretty flat tonight.

Posted by Skoog | January 23, 2013 11:50 PM

The sound was a little off - vocals were wrong compared to the rest of it. The floor was pretty packed but I waited in the cold for an hour to be at the very front. From the sounds of it, it was totally worth it. But complaining about the songs they chose to play, man, that's just picky.

Posted by twistysnacks | January 24, 2013 2:42 AM

Come on guys, the show was awesome. I was on the floor and the energy was definately there. As far as song selections, we all have favorites that we wished they played, but they played 26 songs for a solid 2 1/2 hours. How much more can they fit in?

I saw the Smashing Pumpkins a few weeks back in Brooklyn. I thought it was too large a venue for them. This was a perfect venue to see a band like Soundgarden. Like when The Clash played Bonds for like a week. The intamacy lends itself for what this type of music is all about.

Posted by Nick | January 24, 2013 10:55 AM

They were so f'n tight it was SICK! I saw their reunion tour in '11 at The Rock and thought that was great. But this show was "some next level sh&t".

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 12:07 PM

They sucked they should change the name of the band to "Soundcheck" b/c it sounded like they didn't do one. 26 songs but only half of them were played correctly. Melvins school these hacks

Posted by Whoha | January 25, 2013 5:03 PM

Infantile b.s. Indie-pop has come to embrace sincerely everything it ironically commented upon at its founding. It is all the worse for doing so.

Posted by medafile | April 14, 2013 9:47 PM

I forgot how much I love the band Sound Garden. My girlfriend has a crush on Chris Cornell.
