The National @ Austin Music Hall, Dec. 2011 (more by Tim Griffin)
The National

The National, who are plotting the follow-up to 2010's High Violet, will play a really big hometown show this summer when they headline Barclays Center on June 5. Youth Lagoon (who definitely have a new album soon) will open and tickets go on sale Friday (1/18) at 11 AM.

they will sell it out but will they work in an arena?

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:15 PM

I like the National, but really? I can't think of a worse place to see them.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:15 PM

Good band, bad location

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:17 PM

holy shit

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:17 PM

new album?

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:18 PM

They'll have no problem selling it out.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:18 PM

I saw them open for REM at Jones Beach a few years back. While it was much less intimate than many of their shows (even Beacon), it was still fun. Benefit of the doubt....

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:18 PM

Also playing three nights at BAM in April. Expect the wheels to start turning on press for this new record ASAP.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:18 PM

If Bowery is promoting it, they will "sell it out".

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:20 PM

apparently this is being billed as their last show? sort of like LCD playing MSG?

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:21 PM

Cool! Because I'd love to be able to fall asleep in a overly cumbersome venue (where everything is overpriced), surrounded by scarves, during one of the lamest times of year.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:22 PM

Where was this billed as their last show?

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:22 PM

Man, last chance to see the national! so sad they're breaking up. alligator, boxer, some of my favorite indie rock records of all time. RIP 1999-2013. shit.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:24 PM

Every time I think The Bowery Presents out-does themselves with some absurd booking, they always sink to a new low.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:25 PM

You are all a bunch of miserable bastards.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:27 PM

Not me! I'm happy!

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:31 PM

five nights at the Bell House leading up to a Barclays finale

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:32 PM

I saw these guys at Maxwells and I left early...seriously..ticket was only $10...my times have changed

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:35 PM

Cool. I love it when people turn against a band for being successful.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:39 PM

I like them, but this is a ridiculous booking. The run at Beacon was even pushing it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:42 PM

Who is turning on this band? I still enjoy their music, I just won't see them in a place like this. Their music and arenas do not mix.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:42 PM

"For now we wanted to let you know about tickets for one of our first shows of 2013 - we'll be playing at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, NY on June 5th."

LAST SHOW EVER.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:45 PM

I love this band

Posted by Sky hd | January 15, 2013 12:47 PM

Agreed, 12:25.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:48 PM

Natural progression. Love the ambition.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:58 PM

Music for people with no taste.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 1:14 PM

1:14 - Please explain. Boxer and Alligator were not good albums?

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 1:20 PM

1:14 shut your fucking mouth

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 1:27 PM

I love The National but please can the buffoons who made comments saying this will easily be sold out identify yourselves. Don't post something like this anonymously. You deserve all the public ridicule you get.

Also much love to you 12:20 and 12:25

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 1:29 PM

1:29 PM...

7 nights x 2,800 (Beacon Theatre capacity) = 19,600 tickets sold

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 1:46 PM

1:46 - how many of those Beacon tickets were repeat offenders (went to multiple nights). I bet quite a few.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 1:49 PM

Repeat offenders point is a good one but keep in mind all those tickets were sold after how many NYC-area shows in support of High Violet? RCMH, Prospect Park, T5, the Wellmont, the warm-ups at the Bell House... (am I missing any?) Was still pretty impressive given the market saturation by late 2011.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 1:52 PM

The entire High Violet Annex thing next to Other Music followed by a performance at BAM.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 2:00 PM

Wait a second 1:46, are you trying to say all the Beacon shows were sold out? Cause that is laughable at best. Far from sold out. Or do you just believe everything Bowery Presents tells you?

Dude, you are so sure this will be sold out, put your name to it. I want people on here and anyone who knows you and sees this to laugh right in your fucking face. It's about time dipshit idiots like yourself be ridiculed.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 2:12 PM

good to great band, terrible venue, High Violet was a disappointment, but I'm eager to hear a new album.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 2:16 PM

I love The National but the title/lyrics "Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks" is cringeworthy...esp. when the entire audience is prompted to sing along to this.

Still excited for a new album! Great band, kinda weird to play a huge arena though.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 2:22 PM

How many people who have already seen them multiple times over the last 2 years, and going to see them yet AGAIN in June?

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 2:23 PM

@3:22

cry baby, cry

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 2:28 PM

I was at one of the Beacon shows and it was definitely NOT sold out. Plenty of seats in the back and the balconies were extremely sparse.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 2:34 PM

This will be a fake sell-out, as Bowery does so well.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 2:52 PM

3:28 - I am 3:22 and you made me laugh really loud! Nice one!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 2:52 PM

Outside the arena on nite of show - 10 bucks for crappy seats, face value for good seats.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 2:54 PM

^ No way, good seats wil be able to be had for less than face.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 2:57 PM

YAWN

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 2:57 PM

SOLD OUT

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 3:12 PM

2:12 - you're keeping it real intense bro. what a jagov

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 3:22 PM

didn't i see this band at pier 17 for free a couple of years ago?

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 4:28 PM

Yep, I was there...

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 4:45 PM

Psyched for youth lagoon at barclays

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 5:50 PM

@2:12 Its cowardly that you're trying to call someone out for not providing their personal info when you're not forthcoming with your own identity.

Who are you? Give us YOUR name......

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 6:03 PM

We are all just times of day on this site. We are not names.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 6:38 PM

12:35, whattup clap your hands fan

Maybe they'll open with Rains of Castamere, that'd be cool

Agree though that their music doesn't seem suited to an arena, but I don't really go out of my way to see these guys anyway so have fun to those who go

12:18, that show was crazy, National was ok, but lightning hitting the arena and then seeing REM in the rain while sneaking a 12 pack in under my poncho was awesome

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 6:58 PM

Not sure if this is relevant, but the NATIONAL food of Lebanon is hummus.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 11:24 PM

I feel dirty for buying presale tickets to this.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2013 11:15 AM

These sold out quick. If/when they announce the smaller show i'm sure they won't be hard to get rid of. Especially if you have the GA.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2013 11:32 AM

Of course they will be hard to get rid of you stupid fuck. Fucking amateur hour here. They sold out quick cause that is how Bowery Presents gets you dummy. They put a very small amount on sale for the die hard idiots to make them think there is huge demand for this.

Anyone with half a brain, who actually wants to go to this, will be smart and wait till the week or day of the show. You will be able to get whatever seat or area you want for less than face easy.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2013 11:38 AM

ehhhh

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2013 11:50 AM

"Anyone with half a brain, who actually wants to go to this, will be smart and wait till the week or day of the show. You will be able to get whatever seat or area you want for less than face easy."

I understand that's how you prefer to deal with tickets to shows, but you don't have to be so dismissive of people who want to secure their tickets now. Some people don't want to have to deal with brokers/scalpers at all, so they'd rather be guaranteed to have a ticket in hand and put up with the Bowery Presents BS instead of rolling the dice on some ticket that was haggled down from some dude standing on Atlantic while missing the first three songs of the headliner's set in the process.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2013 12:00 PM

yo so i usually ignore presales cuz they put up only shitttty areas/seats but was able to get floor ga real easy on this one.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2013 12:11 PM

12:00,
You are missing the point dum dum. It is not about haggling with some dude standing on Atlantic or whatever other stupid scenario you come up with. These tickets will never be sold out. Seats all over and great seats as well will be available at the box office and on Ticketmaster the day of the show. The fact that you don't realize this shows you to be an amateur doofus. But then I guess you wanting to see The National in a big shitty sounding arena should tip anyone to your idiocy.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2013 12:15 PM

12:15 is very angry. I bought tickets for the exact reason 12:00 described. I spent my money not yours so don't worry about it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2013 12:22 PM

Wasn't the point of the argument:

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2013 12:22 PM

Odd posts here even for BV. A Brooklyn band is playing the largest venue in Brooklyn and that upsets some? Don't go. I won't either but I'm happy for them.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2013 12:35 PM

yo 12:15, don't even bother with people like 12 and 12:22. Let stupid people be stupid people. You,I and many others reap the benefits of these fools. Take enjoyment in knowing that.

Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2013 12:38 PM

they aren't FROM brooklyn...

Posted by Anonymous | January 17, 2013 5:31 PM

Surprised that they are not sold out.
