The Strokes

There were rumors of a new song from The Strokes and here it is: "One Way Trigger." That's the art above. Is it just us or does it kinda sound like A-ha? Stream it below...

What the hell was that?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:14 PM

What...?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:14 PM

better than angles, but still not very good. sounds like they're trying very hard to write a song, as opposed to the laidback goodsongwriting charm of their first two albums

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:14 PM

its not just you

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:14 PM

woah

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:15 PM

Talking away
I don't know what I'm to say
I'll say it anyway
Today isn't my day to find you
Shying away
I'll be coming for your love, OK?

Take on me (take on me),
Take me on (take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day or two

So needless to say
Of odds and ends
But I'll be stumbling away
Slowly learning that life is OK.
Say after me
It's no better to be safe than sorry

Take on me (take on me),
Take me on (take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day or two

Oh, things that you say
Is it a life or just to play my worries away?
You're all the things I've got to remember
You're shying away
I'll be coming for you anyway

Take on me (take on me),
Take me on (take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day

Take on me (take on me),
Take me on (take on me)
I'll be gone
In a day

are you sure this is the Strokes?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:17 PM

im like a black and white cartoon when i lsiten to that song

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:18 PM

Wow! it's not just you. Hard to believe it's supposed to sound like that.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:18 PM

ill pull the trigger one way- right to my head if i listen to that song one more time

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:19 PM

Wow, this is really bad.

The Strokes are the reason I moved to New York. Time to go back to Ohio :(

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:20 PM

This song sounds like 5 different bands trying to play 5 different songs at the same time.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:20 PM

this is akward

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:20 PM

Sounds more like Crap to me

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:20 PM

Most overhyped, overrated band ever. The Hives are much better and half as hyped as these clowns.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:21 PM

I did not understand one lyric, or one word, in that whole song

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:21 PM

Parquet Courts!

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:23 PM

Look forward to the "surprise" announcement that this is really Weird Al's riff on the Strokes

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:23 PM

poor new yorkers

first sandy, now this?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:24 PM

Illegible Phrazes for the Young and the Restless Fans

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:25 PM

Personally I would rather listen to the sound of my food processor mashing up chickpeas into a familiar tan colored paste.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:25 PM

you guys obviously dont get it, no surprise since youre all a bunch of bridge and tunnel *****s

Posted by julian c. | January 25, 2013 2:26 PM

So The Strokes hit it big by stealing a riff from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers...now they're nicking from a-Ha?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:26 PM

ummm wut.

where'd the layered guitars go? and the raspy, hazy vocals? and the catchy riffs?

this honestly sounds like crap. I'll probably get used to it, but initial reaction is disappointment.

stop trying to copy passion pit, sing in your real goddamn voice, and play some effing guitars. this isn't rock music anymore. they started to lose me on angles, and this is worse.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:26 PM

i blame obama

Posted by julian c. | January 25, 2013 2:27 PM

it sounds like bigfoot's dick!

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:29 PM

It's better than a lot of Angles

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:31 PM

remember when these guys were the saviors of NYC rock? LOL

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:33 PM

I'm the one dude who actually liked Angles, I'm guessing?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:34 PM

Yes, you are

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:35 PM

WTF?!?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:37 PM

i like it. dont know why its getting so much hate

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:38 PM

worst thing since that video of the guy with the saxophone

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:38 PM

Reminds of the first time I heard Audioslave. Downloaded Cochise(sp?) Napster/Audiogalaxy/somewhere and immediately thought that someone posted a fake track. Surely that couldn't be Cornell+RATM. Sadly, it was.

Same thing here. This song can't be the Strokes, but I'm afraid it is.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:38 PM

you guys all know the strokes invented yolo right? when they released the single "you only live once" in 2006-- 6 years before drake. the more you know.....

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:39 PM

Flock of Seagulls?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:41 PM

this sounds like youth lagoon made a shit mambo track.

NO YOLO STROKES

NO BUENO

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:42 PM

julian should be an alcoholic again

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:44 PM

The new Flaming Lips song is better.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:44 PM

should've stopped after room on fire.

Posted by d | January 25, 2013 2:47 PM

they should play megaman's theme and be done with it

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:49 PM

When I bought a Casio keytar, this was the sample track to play along with.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:50 PM

Wow, this is horrible. They need to go back to ripping off the Velvet Underground.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 2:55 PM

Is this a joke?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 3:01 PM

there are more assholes on BV than on World Net Daily

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 3:07 PM

"Can't you see I'm trying/I don't even like it."

-The Strokes

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 3:08 PM

Great song, cant resist. Keep up the good work.

Posted by Scheduling Software | January 25, 2013 3:10 PM

Time to play the JC Loews fellas!

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 3:15 PM

For a guy that once sang, "In spaceships, they won't understand," this sounds an awfully lot like it was written for spaceships...

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 3:21 PM

Its official, "Is This It" was a fluke.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 3:29 PM

3:29 could have told you that 10 years ago bro

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 3:42 PM

certainly isnt the "classic strokes sound" that early reviewers were hinting at

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 4:03 PM

This is playing at the wrong speed, right?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 4:19 PM

does macchu picchu sound like anything else on Angles? no.

hold your horses it is one song, it isnt bad.

The Strokes are one of the best international live bands of the last 10 years EASILY.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 4:29 PM

Good ear 2:15. It does kinda sound like an AHA-Take on Me sample misused.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 4:48 PM

would literally think this was made by an AHA reunion if it hadn't been posted directly on thestrokes.com

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 5:07 PM

SOUNDS LIKE RADIOHEAD

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 5:46 PM

better than Radiohead

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 5:47 PM

The song that had a "classic strokes sound" was called All the Time.

This is the song that was supposed to be synth driven.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 6:45 PM

When the song first starts up, try imagining a game show announcer yelling "It's that time, folks! It's Supermarket Crashers! The game were contestants go head to head to find top bargains and earn cash prizes!

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 7:05 PM

this fucking sucks.

Posted by anonymom | January 25, 2013 7:20 PM

sounds rough

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 7:30 PM

Sounds unfinished and messy.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 8:29 PM

Holy fuck are your parent's not rich as hell. Stop embarrassing yourself and thereby erasing your relevancy from the minds of those us who loved is this it. That was a very long time ago. I'm sure they all have day jobs no?

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 8:43 PM

This is so overproduced. Half the charm of Is This It was how tossed-off it sounded.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 10:41 PM

4:29, Angles sucked with the exception of like two songs. Hold your horses.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2013 11:15 PM

SOUNDS LIKE DIIV

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2013 4:05 AM

Vampireheadradioweekend.

blows.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2013 7:13 AM

I don't care anymore. These lazy fools waited too long to put out music. Rich bitches. It's Parquet Courts time you fools.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2013 1:34 PM

when the strokes came out i was all in. thought they could go down as one of the coolest ever. this jaunt off the rock course has gone on way longer then i would have expected. hope they go back to the rock. this new stuff sounds bad. i mean really bad. i am sure the 13 yr old girls love it, but come on

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 5:40 PM

This was godawful when i first heard it and then after a couple more listens it's become an earworm. I CANNOT get this damn song out of my head. I don't know how i feel about this. I think I'm angry.

Posted by Buster Brown | February 5, 2013 4:49 PM

Geez, most of the pople don't like it, most of the people puts shit songs in top of the charts, most people elects stupid incompetent politicc..ehmmm, maybe most people are STUPID and have bad taste, and probably, just probably THIS IS A GREAT SONG!!!..is a question of simple maths..if most people don't like it, than it's definitly a good sign, just thank about it...wait, you can't do you?!?! ahah

Keep it going my old time NYC friends, bring them down!.....counting down....

Posted by Nuno Ferreira | February 7, 2013 6:00 AM

Questionable direction, but it's better than the warmed-over Modern Rock Radio sound of the singles fom their last two albums. ("Juice Box" sounded like a Weezer outtake, so you know it blew.) I couldn't be bothered to listen to those entire albums, and I doubt I'll listen to this one. Who the fuck cares?

I don't know if some chuckleheads are trying to start a Parquet Courts meme, but that's a great album. Give them your dough, and make these Strokes losers content living on their trust funds again.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 9:49 PM

Yikes time to shut 'er down guys

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2013 5:58 PM

Hold up, Hold on, just because you didnt like this song doesnt mean the entire album is going to be like it. Check out their recently leaked song “All the Time” off their website its better in my opinion http://smarturl.it/TheStrokesOfficial
