The Strokes

You heard the weirdly '80s Norwegian sounding "One Way Trigger" last week and now The Strokes have announced details of their new album, Comedown Machine, which will be out March 26. As you may have guessed, that's the album cover above. The album's first official single will be "All the Time" which comes out February 19.

All The Time is supposed to be the "classic" sounding Strokes song so get ready for people to masturbate over that.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:25 AM

hopefully Elvis Costello opens again

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:27 AM

Can anyone tell me what label they're releasing this on?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:27 AM

I was ready to be excited for this album, but that One Way Trigger song is truly abysmal.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:32 AM

This has final album written all over it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:32 AM

^^^ why is RCA so huge on that cover? part of me feels like this is the end of the 5 album deal they signed their lives away to back in '01 and this is them riding off into the sunset.

because you know this album is gonna be another shit sandwich a la angles/ first impressions.

@11:27

Clearly it says RCA on top. DICK!

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:34 AM

@11:34

Clearly you are an idiot who does not understand sarcasm.

While the song sucks, that cover is awesomely retro. I love it.

Oh and yes this is their last album under their deal.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:39 AM

The cover is cool, the song is not and 11:34 is a total moron.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:41 AM

I think they've lost their minds to agree to have a huge RCA Records logo overpower everything else on their cover, including their own name. Taking corporate shilling to unprecedented heights.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:41 AM

^You are a young idiot who has no clue as to history or what old tape boxes used to look like.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:48 AM

3rd gov ball headliner?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:51 AM

They will not play MSG again, unless they are packaged with a co-headliner or a strong opener. The last time was a "fake se11 out", via Bowery.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:53 AM

The cover art is actually pretty cool. I hate this over-hyped band, but props for the retro cover art.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:54 AM

Multiple nights at T5, you heard it here first.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:55 AM

Although, I bet they play Barclays this time. Cheaper rent, and Brooklyn is where their market demo lives.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:56 AM

I hope RCA has a foxxy bass player. Is the album name a nod to the Julian Casablanca porject of the same name?

Posted by Who Deen E.(!) | January 30, 2013 12:01 PM

Go away. Bland as fuck.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 12:02 PM

cover art is a play on the old boxes that housed master/reel-to-reel tapes.

Posted by bill p | January 30, 2013 12:02 PM

Can anyone (other than people who think that the band is cute) honestly say that they really loved any of their albums beyond their 2nd one?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 12:03 PM

And yes, this is their best album cover.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 12:05 PM

FIRST no breeders tickets, now this shit. gonna just kill myself.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 12:10 PM

sooo.... this means they're the 3rd headliner for governor's ball right?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 12:11 PM

Their first show is going to be this really rad hummus loft party in BK.

Loft Location TBA!!!!

Posted by MGMT | January 30, 2013 12:23 PM

11:48 - No. I hate a label's name to be the biggest thing on an a band's cover art, despite it being masked as a play on an old fashioned studio reel-to-reel tape...idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 12:46 PM

"Comedown Machine"? Why not just call it "Sixteen Stone 2"?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 12:51 PM

Last time they toured, I heard a couple of young upper west side stay-at-home moms talking about getting Strokes tickets from stubhub after dropping their kids off at a private pre-school. That's their audience now.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 12:53 PM

surfer blood is better

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 12:57 PM

Surfer Bloods singer beat up Julian's wife

Posted by Surfer Blood PR | January 30, 2013 12:58 PM

So what's the deal? People in Brooklyn eat a lot of hummus? I honestly still don't get the joke. Was this in a Portlandia episode I missed?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 12:58 PM

gov ball 3rd headliner?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 1:01 PM

11:41/12:46-Nice attempt at trying a comeback to mask the stupidity of not knowing what the cover art was all about. A failure nonetheless.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 1:05 PM

12:03, I actually really like First Impressions of Earth. I only skip three songs.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 1:10 PM

37:49. Please let them be able to fill those minutes with good music. I've been good. I deserve it.

Posted by Doc | January 30, 2013 1:11 PM

"1000 hurts" -its been done before guy

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 1:13 PM

no, after their first two albums they have been awful. from a serious fan. julian's solo album was far better than angles and first impressions, and probably this.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 1:29 PM

I know they ain't been hip in a decade, and they have as much "haters" who consider themselves authentic and pre-date these guys as they have tasetmakers who don't remember and don't care but...

...they're still better than you.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 1:32 PM

""1000 hurts" -its been done before guy"

And your point is? Yes Shellac did that and so have a few other bands. So what? No one said it was the most amazingly original idea. Just that it was a very cool retro cover which it is. I actually like it better than Shellac's

Is this you 11:41/12:46? Still sore cause you got called out for being a clueless idiot?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 1:34 PM

The Strokes have been making a nice living by not doing anything original. Still turn out some decent music.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 2:01 PM

1000 hurts was conceptual, this is just style. That was a record art critique, not a musical one. Though...

Posted by It's been done before guy | January 30, 2013 2:44 PM

Also a nod to the Velvet Underground box set.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 2:45 PM

the song and the cover art are a total bummer.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 3:12 PM

So what are all thinking tour-wise. Multiple T5 nights? MSG? Multiple Radio City nights? Governors Ball headliner?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 3:32 PM

Last Splash?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 3:52 PM

From a stunner of a first album, to a strong yet lesser second album that retreads the first one (albeit well), to a third album with a couple great tunes but apparently showing a band unable to evolve compellingly or hold on to a template with conviction, to a fourth album of pretty much the same situation as the third album but apparently less successful, to.....a shrug off? Or maybe a great record, who knows. But if it is an end-of-contract shrug off, that's all folks. Would be nice to be surprised, because once this band had a lot to offer. But that was ages ago now.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 4:11 PM

The Who recently put out LIve at Hull (sister show to Live at Leeds, the next day, same set save one song, and nearly as stellar) with the best version of an old reel to reel tape cover - circa late 60s early 70s Scotch.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 4:14 PM

another BV post of a band they once loved but only want to pick on that band because they haven't changed their sound. I see nothing wrong with the Strokes. Yes first album was the best but they continue to put out good tunes with nice hooks but because it sounds like prior albums it suxs.

Not much a fan of the Strokes but I've enjoyed all their albums although each album does have some clunkers. I'll wait to hear the whole album but I'm sure I'll enjoy most of it. Then again I'm not looking for the Strokes to put out an all new sound I'll look for new bands for that. The Strokes have a formula it works for me sad it doesn't for others.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 4:35 PM

^ because they haven't changed their sound? are you fucking kidding? dumbass, go listen to their first album and then tell me that shitburger up top sounds anything like that.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 4:52 PM

I hope they tour. It's fun watching 5 guys play while looking like they'd all rather be somewhere else.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 4:57 PM

I'd love to join in on the hate, but I'll probably buy the album and go see them if they tour...as will half the people making these retarded comments.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 5:00 PM

Touch & Go certainly didn't try and put their name in huge font over Shellac's...Steve Albini never would have allowed it nor would T&G ever even want that.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 5:08 PM

4:11, sounds like Interpol

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 6:32 PM

5:08, you are such an unbelievable idiot it is downright painful.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 7:22 PM

Boring. These guys are lazy.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:08 PM

Ooh. My feelings are hurt 7:22.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2013 11:30 PM

I'm gonna have a stroke listening to this shit.

Posted by Anonymous | January 31, 2013 10:13 AM

They have a great video for "All The Time" too :) http://smarturl.it/StrokesATTVEVO

Posted by Emma | March 18, 2013 9:52 AM

theres too much sourness here, honestly. lighten up people, they're makin music for someone man... dont tell me you guys watch the needle drop on youtube and fucking jerk off to his meticulous annalyzations of music.Go be happy and listen to something you like.
