Better than Coachella

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 6:35 PM

THIS WILL BE A CRUISE OF LEGEND SIMILAR TO THE NINA PINTA AND SANTA MARIA.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 6:35 PM

Not real.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 6:49 PM

I want this

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 6:51 PM

Sweet Line Up!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 6:52 PM

I need pictures of the "crowds" at this thing.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 6:53 PM

Good for them.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 6:54 PM

Gin Blossoms and Cracker are great bands. The others, not so much. I would go to this show if it were a festival and close to me.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 6:58 PM

sink the seaward

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 7:04 PM

VH1 sponsored "I Love the 90s" event.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 8:51 PM

My 7th grade self would have been ecstatic

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 9:01 PM

Oh, boy! What are the chances that Candlebox does a special guest surprise set?

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 9:19 PM

Yeah, this is bands that all of you thought were the shit back when you were 12, so what's the big deal

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 9:20 PM

@6:58, gin blossoms were not a great band. absolutely not.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 9:33 PM

I'm pretty sure I'd have a better time at this than at the Black Sabbath abortion...fuckin' fingerbangin' milfs, drunk off of fruity drinks with "Fly" in the background? SIGN ME UP.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 9:33 PM

Catered by Guy Fieri.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 10:06 PM

Cracker and Marcy Playground are both great, the others....well, I guess I used to like their stuff. definitely not time test passing. I can still listen to Marcy Playground's records and thoroughly enjoy them, and Cracker/Camper Van will never get old with me.

Posted by The Mighty KC | January 12, 2013 10:08 PM

everyone gets laid

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 10:10 PM

CVB/Cracker were ok, but Lowery has been writing like a Fox News guy lately ranting against the 'copy left.' I'm glad he's ended up on this ship of losers - he deserves it.

No, Marcy Playground and Gin Blossoms were never remotely decent. Both of your taste suffer from a crap zone.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 10:18 PM

the funny thing is that combined, these bands have sold more records than all total record sales for the last ten years

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 10:26 PM

If Coppperplate Gothic was not stretched on this poster I would think this whole event is fake.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 11:10 PM

bv apparently can't handle anyone posting about that band of which we can not speak of anymore. you know who im talking about.

and if you DO know who i speak of, then how did they bring themselves to join this flock of seagulls? they must be god's gift to all...

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 11:29 PM

How much are tix?

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 11:31 PM

were better than ezra, third eye blind, barenaked ladies, bush, seven mary three, sister hazel, and every other frat boy douche nozzle band from the 90s busy?

i'll put a tenner of them being free for milf cruises

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 11:37 PM

no Semisonic = bullshit

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 11:43 PM

At least there will be good looking chicks. There were ZERO on the Coachella cruise. Biggest waste of money I ever spent.

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 11:55 PM

Agreed. I saw maybe 1 keeper on the Coachella cruise. Way too many dudes and 99% of the girls were busted. That said, I guess if the only reason you are going on a cruise is to get laid, this one is probably a winner (despite the horrendous music).

Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2013 11:59 PM

McGrath curated this thing and he's a second tier performer. pretty good.

Posted by sweetlife | January 13, 2013 1:42 AM

They're organizing the same cruise to take place in 2023. The bands will be:
Radiohead, strokes, arctic monkeys and an acoustic set from grimes.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 1:47 AM

This will be like the grand funk railroad reunion I saw in 1994

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 2:32 AM

It's a gay cruise Jerry

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 3:33 AM

Good for them.

Posted by kilometr | January 13, 2013 8:10 AM

What do you call a dozen one-hit wonder 90's bands at the bottom the ocean?

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 8:32 AM

Awwwww. Thats so cute.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 8:35 AM

When did they bring The Love Boat back?

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 9:33 AM

They should have (and probably could have) gotten Stone Temple Pilots cheap. Surprised they are not on this cruise too.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 10:14 AM

I wonder how much it would cost to put together a cruise with the still remaining semi-relevant bands from the 90's (Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Weezer, Flaming Lips, Snundgarden).
...and before you comment on my picks, note that I said "semi" relevant.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 10:18 AM

This. IS. AWESOOOOOME!

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 10:32 AM

gin blossoms rule

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 10:33 AM

Mark McGrath cruise > Coachella cruise

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 10:33 AM

No acknowledgement of Everclear? Really?

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 11:42 AM

I'd love to see what the Nu-Metal 90's cruise would look like. It would be so awesome to see Limp Bizkit, Korn, and Slipknot sail out to sea and get shipwrecked.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 11:55 AM

Unlike most of the music discussed here, these are all bands people used to listen to.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 1:04 PM

11:55 wins

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 1:08 PM

@ 1155 i would be there getting shipwrecked

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 1:13 PM

how come there can be a story about the sp1n d0ct0rs, but you cannot mention them in the comments?

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 1:16 PM

The bass player from the Sp1ns will be the only black guy there. You can bet on that.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 4:56 PM

what, no j@cUZ zi b0yz?

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 5:00 PM

1:04 is correct. These bands actually made it to mainstream popularity.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 5:03 PM

no Semisonic? You should see the Royalty checks Dan Wilson cashes since he writes many of Adele's big hits. He doesn't need $$$

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 6:27 PM

what happened to the bru1se cru1se?

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 6:52 PM

311 does this, by themselves. Real Fans.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 7:21 PM

blacks won't be there.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 8:32 PM

I miss old mtv.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 9:34 PM

This sounds like hell. The worst middle of the road 90s bands all together equal the nightmare that I never want to come true. Please, terrible 90s bands, die die DIE!!

Posted by moe | January 13, 2013 10:53 PM

urban dance squad.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2013 11:18 PM

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 12:13 AM

This is a hoax.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 12:19 AM

will martha quinn be there?

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 12:38 AM

TIL dan wilson is smart and writes songs for other artist

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 1:55 AM

Sorry, but cracker is not " a good band"

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 3:29 AM

what i wouldnt pay to sail the seas with Snundgarden

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 7:42 AM

correction 9:38 - gin blossoms WERE a great band. until they kicked out their only songwriter of note, doug hopkins. they f'd him over and will remain mediocre forever because of it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 8:09 AM

hey 10:18 - "Lowery has been writing like a Fox News guy? because he eloquently pointed out how downloading commercially available music without paying for it is STEALING?

you are beyond hipster loser material.

you are the scum i scraped offf my show on the sodewalk today.

david lowery > you and your ilk EVERY time. loser.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 8:14 AM

Yes, Hopkins wrote the majority of their hits. After they kicked him out he killed himself. And they are still playing his songs 20 years later.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 9:00 AM

B-list cruise

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 9:09 AM

Dads and toddlers welcome

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 9:40 AM

Love the special acoustic performances - read: we tried to get these bands to come but only these two guys were willing to do it

Who is Vertical Horizon? The Verve Pipe was the freshmen song right?

Would watch Gin Blossoms, Cracker had "low" right? that song is cool, $p1n d0ct0rs (do we really have to change it?) had some fun hits, sugar ray were ok - light, background music pop, marcy playground were terrible - I judge them off that one sex and candy song, collective soul and soul asylum are the same to me - don't really care for either band, I did like throwing copper when I was in 5th grade, it's a decent album

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 3:26 PM

the bass player from marcy playground played in the band of a guy i used to work with. everything i mentioned in that last sentence sucked.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2013 3:43 PM

Posted by In your head for the rest of the day | January 14, 2013 4:39 PM

This music was popular in the '90s. Has it aged well? Not really. But is still is better than what is on the radio nowadays and better than a lot of indie stuff too. Marcy Playground are terrible, but I rather listen to them over Grimes.

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 1:39 AM

i don't care who doug hopkins is or when and why he was dismissed.

just keep repeating this, its really simple: "the gin blossoms have ALWAYS fucking sucked."

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2013 12:26 PM

I *love* how people are attempting to dump on these bands. None of you have *ever* done anything even remotely as awesome as any of these guys. Go back to your holes and let real music fans enjoy themselves, dorks.

Posted by Sugarfox | January 27, 2013 3:19 AM

I would Absolutely go if I was invited, or had the disposable income at the time. A beautiful sunny day at sea with nostalgic good tunes and happy people having drinks and good times. Smiles abound.

Ya might as well be walking on The Sun.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2013 7:50 AM

The iPods are captaining the ship.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2013 8:08 PM

Can you even conceive of the mom/pudding-ring factor on this flotilla of doom? Better luck next year!

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 5:00 PM

what about uncle cracker.

It's the sun that burns
It's the wheel that turns
It's the way we sing that makes 'em dream

And to Christ a cross
And to me a chair
I will sit and earn the ransom from up here

I've willed, I've walked, I've read
I've talked, I know, I know
I've been here before ..
