Titus Andronicus

Titus Andronicus rang in the new year in Brooklyn at Glasslands for a Dapwell-hosted show. Titus went on after midnight after sets by Baked and Cosmonaut. They played a wild set with favorites from all three Titus albums and then finished the set off with a run of covers -- Thin Lizzy's "The Boys are Back in Town," The Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar," and The Modern Lovers' "Roadrunner." The full setlist is below.

Titus frontman Patrick Stickles also just spoke to Pitchfork about his "TOP FIVE RECORD COMPANY FAILS OF 2012" aka his five favorite "Self-released records and unsigned giants," which you can see listed below in alphabetical order. The list includes three of Patrick's Brooklyn neighbors, The So So Glos, Bad Credit No Credit, and Hard Nips (who play Shea Stadium on January 10 with Desert Sharks, Heliotropes, and Hippy). It also includes Boston's Hallelujah the Hills, who play Brooklyn on February 24 at The Rock Shop with Zachary Cale and Woodsy Pride. Patrick's full list with commentary and a list of all Hard Nips dates are below.

Titus Andronicus' Patrick Stickles
: Self-released records and unsigned giants in alphabetical order:

BAD CREDIT NO CREDIT - THE WHOLE BUFFALO: Horn-toting Brooklynites, featuring the city's most fearless and golden-voiced frontwoman, merge Tom Waits and the Squirrel Nut Zippers, utilize Kickstarter.

FREE ENERGY - LOVE SIGN: The best pop rock record of 1988 finally arrives - the world awaits the launch of their own record company.

HALLELUJAH THE HILLS - NO ONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENS NEXT: Nineties indie rock is alive and wordier than ever and also on Kickstarter.

HARD NIPS - AMAZING GUNS: Three Japanese expatriates reveal to us that the most relevant rock band is AC/DC, except that they needed more phaser.

THE SO SO GLOS - BLOWOUT: A band of Brooklyn brothers bring old school pop punk into the twenty first century, producing a flawless classic in the process.

HONORABLE MENTION: TITUS ANDRONICUS - LOCAL BUSINESS (UK EDITION): Jersey boys get lost in the shuffle of record conglomerate restructuring, regret not getting Jamie XX to produce.

What about Buckeye Shrimper's top 10?

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 4:15 PM

This sounds awesome!

To be clear, were the covers just at the end of the set or as an encore? Maybe the encore started with Titus Andronicus Forever? Just wondering -- thanks.

Posted by Barton Lewis | January 2, 2013 4:21 PM

No Encore, the covers were part of the main set :D

Dear Titus Andronicus,

Eat something, will ya?

The World of Food

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 4:29 PM

They don't usually do encores except when I left after their set at Webster Hall

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 4:33 PM

Yeah there was no "formal" encore. But Patrick stoped after Titus Forever and did a little spiel before the covers set. So a sort of encore I guess.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 4:54 PM

Yes! Another cover of Roadrunner. Just what the world needed.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 4:59 PM

Hummus Giganticus!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 5:22 PM

song titles from another English major who wants to champion "Jersey" as "real" and authentic. can't wait for the rise of the suburban band trend to end, for good.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 5:33 PM

What's so bad about suburban bands? Many young people live in the suburbs, anyway. It's not like people should have to move away from friends and family to be popular.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 5:47 PM

"merge Tom Waits and the Squirrel Nut Zippers"

Well that explains why they're on this list

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 6:20 PM

Just wondering thanks.

Posted by WikiMug | January 2, 2013 6:56 PM

i feel sorry for every band on that list, just because they're now associated with this ass clown.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 7:06 PM

I know he can only eat like 3 things, but that Pat douche should try eating a dick. Band sucks, dude sucks. No care ever.

authenticity is crucial in music

without it we wouldn't have Dangerous Toyz

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 7:26 PM

The commentors don't like this act

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 7:30 PM

I loved the first two albums. This new album and his fake eating disorder are embarrassing.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 8:00 PM

Show was really fun. Titus is definitely the best live band around.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 8:12 PM

8:12 doesn't get out much

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2013 10:05 PM

"Titus is definitely the best live band around."

Did not think we would have a contender for dumbest comment of 2013 this early.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2013 2:03 AM

call me when they cover "Queen of the Supermarket"

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2013 8:17 AM

8:12 is Pat Stickles eating a carrot. That, or someone who rode the short bus to school.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2013 8:27 AM

Lots of great comments that definitely prove how much better the commenters are than the guy who so lamely plays music and doesn't like to eat. Also super cool that someone finally has the courage to speak up against people from the suburbs who think they have some sort of right to learn and play music.

Hallelujah the Hills make great music, by the way. Though I'm not 100% certain of their eating habits or if they are technically from a suburb. So listen with caution.

^smh at this n00b right here

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2013 12:30 PM

The So So Glos are God awful.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2013 1:06 PM

Titus is a solid band, and they are pretty popular, I don't know why there is intense hate for them here. Who cares if they are from the suburbs, or the singer has eating issues? Either you like their music or you don't, everything else shouldn't matter.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2013 1:59 PM

His eating issues are easily solved with a trip to Mamouns.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2013 2:48 PM

Hey 11:35 I found a whole tumblr account describing Hallelujah The Hills' eating habits

Posted by Phil D | January 3, 2013 6:50 PM

you people are everything that's wrong with music.

Posted by Anonymous | January 3, 2013 7:29 PM

6:50: Thanks. Yeah, I've seen HtH Casually Smiling and Eating with Chopsticks but that's too small a window for me. Casually smiling and eating with chopsticks doesn't eliminate the possibility of several eating disorders that could offend me and taint the music.

Posted by Mike | January 3, 2013 7:59 PM

These comment threads are worse than youtube. You people are so butthurt it's insane.

Posted by Anonymous | January 4, 2013 8:48 PM

Did you all really miss this amazing ep?

whats with these blogs?

Posted by megan | January 5, 2013 9:47 PM

If you don't like a guys music you don't like it, thats whatever. Calling someone out for their eating disorder is weak though. How did you feel when your ex called you out for your more than likely microscopic member? And the So So Glos are awesome. Sorry they didn't record Call Me Maybe for you

Posted by Hempie | January 20, 2013 6:02 PM

and these dudes dont suck. go put on some pains of being of blah and go back to sleep.

Posted by Number Book Android | March 1, 2013 5:43 AM
