Yo La Tengo have a pretty good history with videos, going to rock school with “Sugarcube” and opening for the Beatles in “Tom Courtenay.” The band’s new video for “I’ll Be Around” takes a less overtly humorous approach, combining the new lyric trend with a recipe for tortilla soup, while Superchunk’s Mac McCaughan mimes the words in a pastoral setting. But then just when you think you’ve got the video figured out, director Phil Morrison (Junebug) takes us somewhere unexpected. You can watch it below.

The video was also the first (and so far only) post on YLT’s new Tumblr and hopefully they’ll fill it with cat pics, weird videos, and animated gifs soon. Meanwhile, Ira, Geogia and James have just started their winter tour that will hit NYC on February 16 for a sold out show at Town Hall.
