Alabama Shakes

Alabama Shakes (or "Alabama Shake" as SNL host Christoph Waltz accidentally called them the first of three times he said their name last night), who played a Valentine's Day show on a boat while they were in town, were the musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night. Not a bad week for the quickly rising young band who also just showed up on the Grammys. My favorite part of SNL is hearing what my parents thought of the musical guest every Sunday. Mom loved them. Dad could only keep asking why they seemed so angry. What did you think? Watch the SNL performances below...

Great band, sounded like Janis Joplin .

She's got a good voice but it's some boring MOR dad rock.

"Great band, sounded like Janis Joplin"

What a frighteningly idiotic person you are.

My favorite part of SNL is checking out the tweets later on to see the morons who say this band or even the show itself killed. Wish they would all be swept away by a typhoon. Alabama Shakes were pretty boring last night. The only funny sketch was Christoph Waltz as Englebert the white funk brother. "Do you want to have sex" "Yes without merit"

SNL LOL

Her head looks like a big potato.

Hold On was Dorner's last minute jam. Alabama After-life.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2013 3:44 PM

I like them but they need better tunes. Only 2 or 3 at best decent ones on their debut. Is there really a dumber term than "dad rock"? 331 - You kind of sound like a "moron"! Especially if you expect SNL to be funny.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2013 4:12 PM

Agreed about them needing better material. They picked the wrong 2 songs to play on SNL.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2013 4:27 PM

disgusting #endfatrock

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2013 4:45 PM

They slowed down Hold On a whole hell of a lot. Theyve sounded better before. For the second one they shouldve picked a song thats actually on the album

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2013 5:14 PM

3:22 used the term dad rock. Not 3:31. Way to look like a horse's ass 4:12

Music for people who don't like music on a TV show for people who don't like TV.

Jesus Uncrossed was actually laugh out loud funny. As was the "Russian" woman on weekend update. Everything else was mediocre or worse.

The Alabama Shakes were OK. I'm not going to say they're the greatest band ever, but the singer has a very good voice, they're solid musicians and come across as very genuine (as did The Lumineers a few weeks ago). If all bands were at least this decent, this world would be a better place.

People on this blog like to bitch about EVERYTHING. Be it Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Jack White or anything else that anyone has heard of before that at least some people genuinely enjoy.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2013 8:23 PM

Their "hit" isn't even good.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2013 9:18 PM

C'mon folks. Sounds like halfa u need a 12 step program.

Posted by Brad | February 17, 2013 9:29 PM

Decent band. Easily better than 90% of the boring idiejunk that the kids seem to love these days.

"Jesus Uncrossed was actually laugh out loud funny. As was the "Russian" woman on weekend update."

No, Just no.

Also, shut the fuck up with the rest of your bullshit

10:34, you're REALLY cool!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2013 10:41 PM

hey, 8:23

solid musicians? really? She can sing, no question there. musically that band is piss poor at best, they've improved since last year though. Watching that drummer play is still painful.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2013 11:10 PM

10:41, you're REALLY not!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 18, 2013 12:09 AM

The drummer is terrible. A decent drummer would contribute a lot to their sound. Perhaps a better bassist to, but I could live with someone just playing root notes on music like this.

She nailed that solo in the second song. Killer.

I read comments. After viewing the majority of these comments, I am reminded why. Some of you are truly hateful people. Damn, are your lives so dark and without joy you must tear down artists who have the bravery to express their ideas. I'll let you tear me apart now.

Here are a few things you can use:
I'm old, I'm not beautiful, I have grey hair, the car I drive has dents and a broken tail light....OK, go with that and spew the venom.

This was one of the funniest episodes of SNL this season. And the Alabama Shakes killed it. What's wrong with you people, seriously? Want a cookie?

Posted by Anonymous | February 18, 2013 9:44 AM

10:34 pm, you wouldn't know funny if it hit you in the groin with a football.

Love,

^ The last 2 comments were brought to you by 2 current loser writers for SNL. Basically the only people who still think anything these days on SNL is funny.

Posted by Anonymous | February 18, 2013 11:14 AM

It's predictable middle of the road garbage. End of story.

Posted by Anonymous | February 18, 2013 11:43 AM

^The middle of the road is edgy! If you are driving down the middle you can crash into a car head on. If you are on the edge you are probably safer!

Posted by Anonymous | February 18, 2013 12:10 PM

"The middle of the road is edgy!"

Technically the middle of the road is the flattest part.

Posted by Anonymous | February 18, 2013 12:15 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 18, 2013 1:30 PM
