Godspeed You! Black Emperor @ ATP NY 2012 (more by Erik Erikson)
ATP NY

We already knew there'd be no ATP NY in 2013 but it looks like the party's over for the forseeable future as well -- anywhere in the U.S. Festival founder Barry Hogan tells Billboard:

We're thinking we might just leave America for a while and wait for things to get a little better returning there. And to be honest, we've done so many events there. There are so many other exciting places in the world to do things that in NYC. I'd rather look at South America and Europe, to be honest. Or more things in Australia.
ATP I'll Be Your Mirror Melbourne just wrapped up this past weekend (Feb 16 - 17) with headlining sets from My Bloody Valentine, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Swans.

It would have helped if more bands that don't play NYC all the time played ATP. I went to two ATP's but overall the lineup was never appealing as the ATP's in the UK.

The location was strange . I felt like I was doing something wrong there. It didn't feel like Frank Ocean was really going to play.

Bound to happen....they have better taste than Americans

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 5:33 PM

ATP blew it by having the overly-hyped Frank Ocean headline their last show in NYC.

However the Portishead curated show in Asbury was amazing!

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 5:35 PM

5:35 agreed. Frank Ocean was bought in as far as im concerned.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 5:43 PM

booo...loved ATP

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 5:49 PM

it was fairly packed for frank ocean, that probably helped them cover some of the overhead actually.

The overseas lineups are always far better than the US ones

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 6:15 PM

so.....drugs?

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 6:32 PM

time for some enterprising anonymous commenter to make the better version of this fest they've been claiming they could have done for the last five years.

i beg you to prove it.

The problem was that the venues they picked after leaving Kutcher's were enormous for the bands they were picking. The never even sold Kutcher's out, which was much smaller. The Convention Center and Basketball City are the size of airplane hangars. It also didn't help that bands were allowed to play NYC within weeks of the festival, killing the need foe people to travel if they wanted to see one of the bands.

Kutsher's was where ATP USA belonged. It was perfect. The primary venue was fucking excellent. The secondary venue was totally acceptable. It's faded 70's glory was very comfortable for that "rock-n-roll summer camp" feel that everyone that was there was completely comfortable in.

It was expensive. But worth it. I'm glad I had the chance to be there. I would go again if given the opportunity.

I think anybody that made their way into the Teenareena, the abandoned ski house full of early 90s ski magazines, or the skating rink littered with 8 tracks, ice skates, and broken glass understands that nothing in NYC will ever come close to the majesty of ATP at Kutshers.

Welllll FUCK YOU, Barry

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 8:02 PM

Fuck you Barry. Losing credibility. Go back to Kutschers

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 8:16 PM

All Yesterday's Parties...

Old Barry has a bit of trouble knowing how we Americans like to get down at festivals...

Fuck it, I would go back to Kutschers if it was a Phish or ICP festival.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 9:00 PM

that's what happens when you lose money

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 9:17 PM

Barry couldn't hack it in the USA. So he slags the States and says it's "more interesting" in South America. Enjoy your third-world, poverty-riddled, corruption-infested shit fest in South America idiot.

The problem with Kutchers was that it wasn't large enough. Every year i think they sold out both Kuthchers & the off site hotel - but that wasn't enough it seems to break even on the festival. They have the math down at the UK fests - the capacity is the size of the camp/venue - if that sells out they make money and it always sells out.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 10:25 PM

Can't make money of you fucks! Off to greener pastures and more suckers!

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 11:00 PM

You could have seen Death Grips but you blew it!!! Peace out you slobs! I'm headed to Perth or São Paulo or somewhere more happening. Yeah that's the ticket. Festival in São Paulo curated by Shellac. That's a whole lot of nerd centavos gringos!! Who's a smart guy? Barry Hogan is a smart guy.

Posted by Barry Hogan | February 22, 2013 11:13 PM

Worst grammar ever.

Thank you 6:30, I'm glad to see that there are still some in this world that wake up before the sun comes up to make sure we all abide by rules, be they spelling or otherwise. Where would we all be without arbitrary rules?

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2013 8:01 AM

Dude, it IS pretty funny that everyone who went there loved it, but only 15% of them can correctly spell it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2013 9:56 AM

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2013 10:06 AM

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2013 10:13 AM

Dude, Where's My Festival?

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2013 10:15 AM

Barry-

Don't let the door hit you on the way out. No one is feeling your nerd fests. Now go declare bankruptcy again and shield yourself from those who were dumb enough to give you credit.

Regards,

NYC

Truly Sad. They made their share of mistakes, but it was a good festival, run by decent people, for fans that really got it. Proud I went as many times I did, and regret that I didn't realize how great it was in time to go to earlier ones.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2013 1:04 PM

Barry stiffed a lot of honest people to pay for Shepard Fairey's shitty 'art'

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2013 1:59 PM

bummer...I went to all the Kutsher's ones, and the last two which weren't quite as good. But in the end, I had fantastically good times at each one.

Hopscotch, Austin Psych Fest, Fun Fun Fun Fest...all seem like they are good, but still fall short of what ATP was able to do.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2013 2:47 PM

Let's make one thing clear here Barry... YOU sabotaged the chances of another US ATP by acting shady as hell last year. You repeatedly assured that ATP "would go on as planned" all while planning to move the ATP to NYC while the people who supported you were making NJ arrangements. You tarnished your own reputation.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2013 3:38 PM

Barry my bitch yo

Posted by Frank Ocean | February 23, 2013 6:35 PM

The hummus has spoiled. It's time to buy another container folks.
Perhaps this one will even provide greater phyto-nutrients.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2013 7:06 PM

who gives a shit it sucked every year they had it

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2013 9:16 PM

i was so horny for this too

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2013 12:19 PM

isn't Kutschers condemned by now? ATP at Kustschers = 3 of the best festivals ever, and it got better every year. there was no way to reproduce that in NYC or NJ.
