BLur / Oasis

Hell hath frozen over:

It was the bitter Britpop feud of the nineties - Oasis and Blur at each other's throats in the charts and out on the tiles.

Both rugged bands would threaten each other and the rivalry dominated both bands chart success, with record companies pandering to the division of teenage fans.

But despite Albarn, 44, saying in 2007 making up with Noel, 45, would be the end of Britpop the pair were happy to give each other a mellow squeeze at the BRIT Awards last night (2/20).

It seems Albarn had forgotten Noel Gallagher's famous wish he 'would 'get AIDS and die' and his own 2007 pledge: 'I can't make it up with Noel. Britpop would be over and heaven forbid that we'd ever admit we'd all grown up!' -[Daily Mail]

Good to see they've made up. Maybe Liam still holds a grudge? You can relive the legendary Britpop beef via video clips below.

As for the BRIT Awards themselves, Mumford & Sons were named best British group; Coldplay was named best British live act; and Adele went home with Best British Single for "Skyfall." Full list of BRIT winners is here.

Blur will play their first North American shows in ages at Coachella 2013.

Fuck this shit. British music? For the birds (literally). Think of all the great feuds in American rock history:

Pearl Jam vs. Candlebox
KoRn vs. Limp Bizkit
Three Days Grace vs. Smile Empty Soul
Nickelback vs. Three Doors Down

That's some real rock shit. Fuck these skinny posers.

was Grimes there?

2:51, Nickelback is Canadian. Everyone knows that. I get the point you're making though and totally agree. Thanks for the sound analysis

Oasis - overrated but had their day
Blur - overrated but always shit

I LOVE how Brooklynvegan couldn't even post a picture of the right Gallagher brother. That is LIAM in that photo, not Noel. Get your facts right people. It isn't hard.

Math Rock:

Oasis > Blur

3:04 in case you haven't hear Blur are headlining coachella and Noel sold out two shows at Beacon on his own recently..

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2013 3:09 PM

the answer was always Suede anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2013 3:11 PM

Indeed, as fantastic as Oasis and Blur were in their own ways, they were merely parochial compared to Suede and Pulp...maybe even Elastica.

That ceremony made the Grammys look like a musos gathering.

We Canadians are generous folks so by all means, you can have Nickelback, America. No, really - they're yours. Take 'em... please....

The posters above are right. Suede had a better string of albums. "Suede," "Dog Man Star," "Sci-fi Lullabies," "Coming Up" are a stronger quartet than any Oasis or Blur collection.

Charlatans UK: Some Friendly, Between 10th and 11th, Up to Our Hips, Telling Stories and then Charlatans UK 1 notch above Suedes good 4 album run...

Mumford & Sons, Coldplay, and Adele winning the big awards are all the proof we need that Britpop is over.

Americans will always out-rock England. During this time, Deftones, Tool, and Rage Against the Machine were innovating their own sub-genres. I still give Oasis credit though, "What's the Story Morning Glory" was a well-written album.
