Chelsea Light Moving at Sled Island in 2012 (more by Zach Pollack)
Chelsea Light Moving

As previously discussed Thurston Moore has a new band, Chelsea Light Moving, who will release their self titled debut album on March 5 via Matador and have a tour on the way in support of it. That tour includes Maxwell's (3/2) in Hoboken with Talk Normal (tickets), SXSW in Austin, Bowery Ballroom (4/5) in NYC (tickets), and ends on April 7 at The Sinclair in Thurston's home state of Massachusetts. What it doesn't appear to include though are any birthday parties, weddings, or hullabaloos on other planets, which are all fair game according to the band's bio...

Chelsea Light Moving is the current group led by Sonic Youth founder Thurston Moore. He is the songwriter and plays over-amped hyper electric guitar and sings with raw-glam-destructo vocals. The band is a four piece featuring Samara Lubelski, who has played violin with TM on his last two solo LPs (Demolished Thoughts and Trees Outside The Academy) and with Chelsea Light Moving plays deep psyche pop metal bass guitar. Keith Wood, who records under the aegis Hush Arbors, plays electric guitar with a pick forged from angel wing and John Moloney, aka "Pegasus", approaches the drums like an asteroid hurtling toward Earth. The first self-titled CD was recorded in two spurious sessions with engineer Justin Pizzoferrato in Sone Lab, a killer studio in Easthampton Massachusetts. The band is ready to detonate any birthday party, wedding or hullabaloo in any country, planet or stratosphere that doesn't support right wing extremist NRA sucking bozo-ology.
I want them to detonate my birthday party! ... But my birthday isn't coming up soon, and I'm not planning on having a wedding anytime soon either, so I can't find out if Thurston is bluffing, Maybe you can?

Their first show in NYC was at 285 Kent, which is pretty much a basement.

Posted by Jeremy | February 12, 2013 10:58 AM

is there still that loft in Hoboken? the Leather Building? do cool people still hang out in Hoboken? or is it now completely overrun with douche? because last time i was in hoboken i was going to maxwells. rad show, as usual. but the sea of douche we were forced to wade through was unreal. it was like a j crew catalog took a giant dump and hoboken was the toilet paper it wiped it's north fece (get it?) crusted ass with.

anyway, they should play there. that would rule.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2013 10:58 AM

Dear Thurston: We're moving at the end of February and having a Fuck You Landlord/Destroy This Apartment party. We live in Jacksonville (not by choice), but don't people like you have frequent flyer miles?. You can stay at my mom's - she hasn't sucked an NRA member since 1993.

Posted by anonymous | February 12, 2013 11:28 AM

Chelsea Light Moving killed it at 285 Kent a few months back, if they're really gonna play a house though, that'd be next level.

In the 80s and 90s. She used to play me all the SY records and now I'm a huge fan. And I love the Chelsea Light Moving songs I've heard so far so come play my aunt's birthday party. Something tells me that Thurston Moore wasn't looking to open up this flip suggestion to the comments section of Brooklyn Vegan. But just in case----hey Thurston! You're already in Detroit on March 30th, day after my birthday, let's have a private afternoon birthday party BBQ at my uncle's place, massive yard, we can roast a whole pig, have a donation bucket with everything going to the charity of your choice. Detroit needs something good to happen!

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2013 1:44 PM

You're all reading this the wrong way.

He is saying that if your party isn't a right wing extremist NRA sucking bozo-ology, he's going to BLOW IT UP.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2013 3:26 PM

Can we have a serious discussion about this? Why would Thurston Moore come play some party? Because he wrote it in an industry bio? How have we wasted nearly 100 comments on this? This would never happen.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2013 3:49 PM

seriously. i see about 95 heads up 95 asses if you guys think he'll actually come play your stupid house party.

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2013 4:01 PM

I dunno, would be funny. Sonic Youth is always tied to an expensive production requirement, it seems like Chelsea Light Moving at least based on the 285 kent show can play much more spontaneously

Posted by Anonymous | February 12, 2013 4:02 PM

Posted by Tuna Wrap | February 13, 2013 9:47 AM

Like a few normal sane people said above, this is dumb as shit. People apparently have a lot of free time at work, or not work from the likes of most of you. Great publicity move for CLM though. If you think they are going to play your birthday party though you are a bigger fucking idiot than Thurston already thinks you are. Please someone also explain to me why it's such a big deal that Thurston made a comment here. That Matador had to send out a tweet confirming. Is Thurston now some rarefied god so inaccessible that this is news? Let me know when David Bowie or Tom Waits comment on here. Even someone like Roger Chapman from Family making a comment would be bigger news than this

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2013 11:35 AM

... or perhaps bands and their labels like to fuck around on the internet too

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2013 11:47 AM

Or it could just be the fact that 11:35 is a complete fucking tool who hates fun things like the idea of maybe having Thurston Moore play at your birthday party.

Don't listen to him Thurston. He probably listens to a lot of Local Natives.

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2013 12:01 PM

Or it could just be the fact that 12:01 is a complete fucking mongoloid with very little to show for a life.

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2013 12:15 PM

Thurston likes hummus?

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2013 2:35 PM

i like hummus

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2013 7:11 PM

how about a little celebration in DC? i have the keys to a killer spot on pennsylvania ave with total privacy and top grade bottled water. i could get the untouchables to re-unite.

Posted by Barry O' | February 14, 2013 12:10 AM

March 9, en route to Denton, TX from Atlanta, GA, you should stop in Lawrence, KS to play my living room. Do it. bozo-ology runs rampant in KS, but as you know from past visits, Lawrence is pretty chill. Come play my house! or just stop by and we'll smoke some hash and watch Masahiro Shinoda films. whatever. -peace friend

Before you hit up Charlottesville, you should play my birthday show in Richmond. Bday is on the 20th, and the show would be the following weekend/or week after. The house show spot is sweet, dirty, dingy, and well known for hosting quality Richmond Punk/noise bands. Richmond bands + Chelsea Light Moving headlining? It would be a sweet time.

Thurston my birthday is March 13th! I live in Plano, TX, between Denton and Dallas. I don't think I'm going to be able to see you at 35Denton on 3/10. Bummed! I notice that you have a free day on March 9th. That just happens to be a day I am considering to throw my 35 year birthday bash. It would be the most rad birthday ever if you played at my house party, I've been a huge fan since I was 12 years old and I love what I've heard of the new group so far. Can't wait for the album to come out! I have a fairly spacious place with room for you guys to crash if needed. I also notice you don't have any shows between 3/10 and 3/19. If the 9th doesn't work for travel reasons or whatever maybe you could play the following weekend the 15th or 16th? I'm also working on getting some local friends bands to play. My girlfriend and I are musicians and would be honored to have you in our home and (just maybe, possibly jam with us) This is probably a pipe dream for me but oh man how righteous it would be. Also there are no right wing, NRA supporting, bozo's in my circle. Much respect.

How about a house party in Hamilton, ON the day after the Toronto show. It's on the way to Pittsburgh and you do have April 1 off. Food and beds to sleep in will be supplied. Plus we'll invite the kids from my son's grade 3 class. Perfect space in the living room for a sonic explosion/detonation.

Hey Thurston! I'm a big fan and would love it if Chelsea Light Moving would play my birthday party. I'm turning 22 on March 5th, same day as your record release! Come to southern California, everyone's invited!

Ok, so I would say COME TO Trondheim, Norway. We can have an amazing shabby party in a small cabin in the middle of nowhere (Read "Woods" or "Mountains". I can tempt you with cold rooms, sleeping bags, expensive alcohol, right wing assholes, tonns of guns (you know there are more guns in Norway per capita? The difference is that while in the USA you have M16´s, in Norway we have hunting rifles from the last century. Sketchy stuff indeed. We can watch cyberpunk movies, listen to some good Jazz Funk Greats, and just have a through-and-through bad time. Mi Case Es SU casa (Huset mitt er huset ditt).

"The above post sounds like a bitter musician whose band got refused by the Agency. You really don't know shit about "that incident" if you think Tim Borror(?) had anything to do with it."

The Interlace will be accessible with Queenstown MRT Station as well as Labrador MRT Station. It is also right beside Ayer Rajar Expressway (AYE). The Interlace is also near to Labrador Nature Reserve and Vivocity.
